When Insua took charge of Barcelona Jeff Hurtado's level dropped. He wasn't the same from last year. The first semester of last year, I could say he was the best centeral defender of the country- at that time he deserved to be called up and even start as many friendlies as possible to put him to the test.

Suarez is good at club level. Didn't see the same amount of mamadas in mexico as i did when he was in El Nacional. he hasn't played more than 10 minutes in a friendly for the NT. So I can't comment about how he'd do. I think even he deserved to be in the NT more than Narciso Mina-who shouldn't be there at all. Even Felix Borja did. So at this rate, we'll probably never see him on the NT to even evaluate what he's got- unless of course he has some phenomenal season with Santos.

Rueda is not the bringer of youth, he's the bringer of disgrace to this team. I put money that he won't test out a natural right or left back from now til the qualifier to replace Reasco. He'll have JC Paredes playing there or maybe even Valencia. Maybe Benitez is gonna play as left back too, it wouldn't surprise me.

Better than playing 2nd division in Ecuador, if that's the only other option. Villarreal B is a launching pad to the 1st division, so hopefully Chiqui fulfills the promise he's had for some time and has better luck on this opportunity to play in the big time.

He'll probably play in the reserves for a year since the left is pretty saturated in Dortmund's 1st team with Goetze, Grosskreutz, Perisic as wingers and Lowe and Schmelzer as LB's.

Fernando Guerrero needs to cut the crap and show his talent b/c he's got it. He needs to be for real this time. I feel like he's wasted a lot of a time in Ecuador b/c he never ever launched himself over to a top team there. This is a new opportunity and he's still young like 21 or so. Take advantage.

The kid's got time...he's only 16 about to turn 17, so he has time. Playing a year with the reserves isn't a bad idea. He can get acclimated to a new country and culture and European soccer and pick up on the language. Hopefully he has a good head on his shoulders.

Absolutely. He also has something else in his favor...Juergen Klopp does not consider age as a factor. If you play well and do well with the reserves, you get promoted. If this deal happens, he has all the time in the world to learn, play his game and try to break through to the 1st team in a couple years with a club that embraces talent at the youth level.

Right now, he should be patient and learn everything he can from his coaches and the players surrounding him... ;)

If this move happens, I have several people close to the club that report on Borussia Dortmund II (the reserves) and will be able to provide updates on his progress (or lack of)...

So there's been a lot of activiity in the last week concerning Ecuas gong abroad or joining different leagues. Lets start with:

Miller Castillo. He supposedly signed with Penarol. He played in Mexico's 2nd Divisin last season. Here's the link.

    http://www.teradeportes.com/newsv2.php?id_noticia=41603

Richard Mercado also signed with Montevideo Wanderers in Uruguay and already made his debut.

    http://www.futbolecuador.com/stories/publica/22871

Jhon Narvaez is set to join Maccabi Haifa in Israel.

    http://www.futbolecuador.com/stories/publica/22862

And finally Marlon De Jesus is also set to join Narvaez in Haifa. Tho its not clear if its on trial, loan, or permanent transfer.

    http://teradeportes.com/newsv2.php?id_noticia=41717

Marlon Pinieda also has several Brazilian teams interested in him as well as two from Holland. These are just rumors tho so we'll see.

Fernando Guerrero made his debut with Villareal B this past weekend. He came on as a sub in the 2nd half.

Joel Valencia made his debut with Real Zaragoza against Real Madrid! Crazy. Too bad Zaragoza got demolished but at least he made his debut.

Looks like Jhon Narvaez will have to wait 6 months to join Maccabi Haifa. He didn't pass the medicals - he had some debris on his knees from a previous surgery. These type of injuries are not all that serious and take about 4-6 weeks to recover from and be on the field. He'll stay in Cuenca for the next 6 months so hopefully he can get some playing time. The odd thing is that Deison Mendez has moved ahead of him in the depth chart. For the first time in his career he's getting consistent playing time. Haven't seen Cuenca play so I cant comment on his level.

The good news is that Marlon De Jesus did pass the medicals and will join Maccabi Haifa for a year on loan with an option to buy. Hopefully he continues his development and reaches his potential. The kid has all the tools to be a goleador.

Yep, he cant join the team until he turns 18 due to the fact that minors cant sign professional contracts in Germany. So the plan for him is to stay with Independiente until next year when he'll turn 18. But he'll be traveling to Germany periodically and train with them. He passed the physicals and everything he just cant join them until he's 18. I still dont know if everything is a done deal. Heck we all thoght Andres Ona was a Inter Milan player but it never got completed. Here's the link:

Thanks - and I think most of the article is just hype but good to hear he left a good impression.

I saw Deison play vs. Liga and he had a good game. This will be the first time we'll get to see him get consistent playing time on a team in his career. It'd be nice to have him and Narvaez both play together as center backs.

Looks like Govea, JL Anangono, and Fidel Martinez have options to play abroad. I know a lot of the times the Ecuadorean press hype stuff up but if it's coming from Jorge Guerrero then I know not everything is BS. Is it a good idea for them to make the jump or should they wait a while longer? Anangono for the first time in his career is getting consistent playing time and Martinez is playing first division futbol as a starter really for the first time in his career. I thought Govea would have already made the jump to Europe after the World Cup but maybe his value dipped a bit after his performance which was sub par IMO.

Another thing, I've only followed Ecuadorean futbol for maybe 5 years, but nowadays is seems as if our players are getting many offers to play abroad. Has it always been like this or is a recent trend.

Martinez should leave. He's an awesome player and 1 of 3 Deportivo Quito players that are worth it. But I'd say give him another year til he MAYBE plays Libertadores (if that bs team makes it), and then he can leave. If they don't make it, then it's better he goes now. Anangono should leave after this year, he's like 22, he shouldn't wait much longer and El Nacional might not have many options to participate internationally so I'd say he should go. Govea should wait til the end of the year and leave too.

What ever happened to Andres Ona? Why doesn't he get chances to play at Independiente, especially now with some of their veterans injured. I did a quick search on Google and it seems as if his name is still circulating in the Italian press. I translated some of te articles using Google translate.

"Cristian Andres Oña is one of the most prominent young midfielders inSouth American football scene.
The Ecuadorian player of just 18 years has been optioned by Inter, who, unable to registering any other non-EU players, failed to put him under contract.
In this sense, the Nerazzurri have tried to "park it" in other clubs, including the Novara, whose sporting director Mauro Pederzoli has denied these rumors to the microphones of FC Inter News: "I know him personally Oña because I have recently done scouting in the countries of central and South America, among other things, is a player known in Italy because it has been proposed to more teams. That said, the Novara is on the player:we appreciate its features, but it is not our intention to go and get him inthe January window. A partnership between Inter Milan and Novara marketto bring Italy Oña? Ask the Nerazzurri: I feel this thing to exclude. The player is not our goal.
    "

"According mercato365, the Ecuadorian midfielder less than twenty years ofChristian Andres Oña (18 years, Independiente Jose Teran / Inter Milan) is followed by Bordeaux."

"A young midfielder who has not yet confirmed in Europe, soon bought by Inter Milan immediately loaned to the club of birth ...
    "

Futbol Ecuador had an article a month back about him. From what I remember it was just speculation, he never signed that loan deal to Cologne either. Probably just bs rumors, probably inter never even wanted him.

I heard Santos and Tigres want Paredes and Toluca wants Oswaldo Minda LOL. OMG I will be the happiest person if Oswaldo Minda gets benched DEEP DOWN into the Toluca reserves and disappears for good. Months ago when that Estudiantes rumor came up, I was hoping Minda would go there so he could vanish from the NT map.

Fidel's a great player though. I hope he can make the move to Benfica. He's not the type of player you see every year in the ecua league, good luck to him. He's getting really close to getting a call up for the NT if Rueda has the slighest clue about him.

Yea, and he had a couple of sick moves, one was unreal. When he left everyone started a Guerron chant. Great game he had today!

EMelec has received an improved offer for Eduardo Morante, our top defender, from Socheaux in the Ligue 1 :D
