Article on Heather Mitts: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/...up-experience?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Sports Of note: "I was lucky to even make the team, honestly," Mitts said. "My fitness was definitely not where it needed to be heading into the tournament, (and) to play 90 minutes and with only three subs, I knew I was even less likely to see action. "I was prepared to play but also embraced my role on the team. Thanks to a teammate on the 2004 Olympic team I learned how I never wanted to act as a reserve. I didn't lobby (coach) Pia (Sundhage) because that's not my personality." 1) Interesting decision to take a player who was admittedly not at full fitness. 2) Who is she referring to on the 2004 team? 3) Potentially a call out of Cheney since it was reported Cheney lobbied Sundhage for a starting spot?

Hope was a reserve GK in 2004, behind Luckenbill. She's in a few team photos taken in Greece around that time.
Does anyone have a list of the 2008 roster? I can't find it anywhere. And I also wonder who she is referring to. Was there a reserve player who was especially obnoxious?
I believe she is most likely referring to Brandi Chastain. Reports were that she complained when she wasn't starting at left back in 2004 (Cat Reddick-Whitehill was starting in that spot), until she started the Germany semifinal and the Brazil final. She actually played well, but I remember reading that it did not go over too well with some of the the non-91/99ers, particularly Cat herself.
Not sure whether you meant 2004 or 2008, but either can be found at the corresponding link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics (2004) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics (2008)
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/womenssocceronellen/ Hey everyone, I'm a comedian / blogger working on getting Ellen DeGeneres to have occassional segments on WPS and USWNT on her show. Spread the word and sign the petition for this idea if you support women's soccer and also love comedy! Thanks!
Good clip of Alex, Abby and Lauren at the espnw summit recently. Starts with a video recap of the brazil game as narrated by Abby, then goes into a panel hosted by Julie Foudy. Great honest answers from the three of them [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWoxLTRqY44"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWoxLTRqY44[/ame]

Grant Wahl wrote a nice little feature about Lauren Cheney in SI. http://si.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1193909/index.htm
Here is a good Q&A with Brandi Chastain, who will be calling the Oly qualifier games. She talks about revenge against Mexico, incorporating more Latina players, Leroux's potential, the best role for ARod and what Lloyd brings to the team. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/...-Olympic-preview-QA-with-Brandi-Chastain.html
Another good Q&A from Philly.com's The Goalkeeper blog. This one with Lauren Cheney. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/thegoalkeeper/137790398.html
how about just wait til abby retires instead of messing with her game? i think everyone knows her game, a-rod's, is coming forward but that doesn't work with abby. put her up top with morgan and sydney, and that whole frontline plays facing the goal. geez, she might just become the best forward in the world. now, she's just to short to be playing those headers against sweden. in fact those 3 aren't necessarily world beaters from set pieces or balls crossed in, they all are downhill runners. revenge against mexico? -what world cup or olympic gold will they be playing for? keep your eyes on the real big dogs. latin players? can marta play for the usa? outside of that the usa girls are bigger and more athletic. that's your game, so stick with it. next thing, she'll be trying to get a japanese backline because they clear better.
NPR broadcast on Morning Edition has a segment on the USWNT & WPS: http://www.npr.org/2012/01/24/145688528/u-s-womens-soccer-looks-to-qualify-for-olympics
New show worth checking out every Tuesday on North American Soccer Network: "This Week In Women's Soccer." Debut is with Heather O'Reilly - http://nasn.tv/2012/heather-oreilly-on-this-week-in-womens-soccer/
AWESOME. I was hoping NASN would get around to something like this. Now hopefully they'll stick with it, unlike their abortive attempts at weekly Yanks Abroad news series.
Yea, I think I saw something on Twitter about that show, said it was coming back soon, technical issues.
