Do you realize how complex it is to install a grass surface. Its more than just laying down sod. There is only 3 months out of the year where Seattle can actually work on putting a grass service and that's between the NFL and MLS season.

I believe Seattle said they would have to shut down CenturyLink field for 8 months in order to install a grass surface as well as everything else necessary to have a grass service. Ie a proper drainage system.

They aren't gonna shut down the stadium or move a team (seahawks or sounders) to temporary facility somewhere else.

*laugh* As soon as you pony up $100 million, you can go ahead and fund a stadium for us. Until then, that's not going to happen. One of the reasons why Qwest Field was approved by the voters was that it was supposed to be a "Football and Soccer stadium" and not just a football stadium so a lot of people in the soccer community got behind it and pushed it through. Because of that, you aren't going to get a SSS built for the Sounders that is going to have any public funding for it. Any attempt by the Sounders to get public funding will get laughed at and the opponents will just point at Qwest Field and say "You've already got a stadium to play in and you are only filling it half full."

If they were really interested in grass, why didn't they do it when the Seahawks were the only team occupying the building?

I'm not expecting you guys to even attempt to get grass anytime soon.

And guess who was head coach of the seahawks at the time. Holmgren and he wanted to be field turf after playing at husky stadium while Qwest was building built. He is no longer coaching the seahawks.

Because the coach at the time, Mike Holmgren, felt it was a competitive advantage to have turf and got the design changed to have the fake stuff installed. Qwest was originally supposed to have a grass field (it was one of the selling points to get people to vote for it), but when the team played at Husky Stadium while Qwest was being built, Holmgren found out he liked the fake stuff.

Thats all well and good. I just hope you don't mind if I'm not holding my breath on all that talk of wanting grass.

Perhaps the discussion by Seattle fans about a new field in Seattle should be moved to the Seattle board.

Has anyone from the team pointed the finger at the turf yet? Maybe it's the type of thing that happens anywhere. Yes, the temporary grass was silly. Nobody is arguing that. I'm not going to get mad at things I cannot change. No sense in arguing with a fanbase about something they do not want either.

I'm gutted. He makes a big difference in our play, to me it was even evident after he left the Seattle game. Folan was killing attacks with turnovers and poor reception for the rest of the match. Either the 3rd or 4th Seattle goal was a direct counter off of a Folan fumble, although it was far upfield.

Maybe we can learn to score without him, much like Seattle did without Zakuani against us. Maybe knowing he is gone will bring up other players' games. Maybe.

I never even consider the possibility of us acquiring outside help, it seems unlikely.

Best wishes Conor, hope you recover quickly.

Terrible news. Though, I am not counting us out just yet. We still have some talent up front and Kandji coming back. Good luck on the recovery, Conor.

Goals by Cummings in 2010 when largely playing with Casey: 14
Goals by Cummings in 2011 when largely not playing with Casey: 2

Goals by Casey in 2010: 13 (+2 huge playoff goals)
Goals by Akpan, Amarikwa, Folan, and Kandji in their MLS careers: 13

Anyone who thinks one of them will step in and fill the void is fooling themselves.

JUst a quick get well to Conor Casey. I hate to see any player go down. One tough SOB to walk off the field with that injury.

Dammit dammit dammit. Based on performances this year, we are rightly and truly screwed. Omar/Folan combination has been, for practical purposes, useless. Goodbye CCL. Goodbye playoffs. No upside to this.

I agree there is no sense in arguing the turf issue with Seattle fans, it has nothing to do with them, but it certainly needs to be addressed by MLS. The pitch was a joke as was Vancouver's. I used to be slightly annoyed by midseason friendlies but now I am firmly against them. The actions by Vancouver and Seattle have shown that MLS treats these meaningless midseason friendlies as more important than the league. If MLS wants respect that don't need to play Man City in a bulls*t game, they need to take the league seriously.

    Repped.

BTW: On a side note, I was neg repped by a Seattle fan, whose identity I will keep to myself out of respect to some semblance of decorum, for a joking earlier post about the Rapids being tried in the court of public opinion and labeled as thugs in internet forums. The tone was intended to be lighthearted. The tag to the rep is:

"Instant Karma to your thugs. Conor Casey looks down for the count. Poetic justice has been served."

It is, of course, this fan's right to neg rep me to his heart's content. Nothing is filled with more sound and fury signifying less than blabbering internet invective. I would also not normally air this kind of dirty laundry. However, I think it is worth mentioning due to the unbelievable lack of sensitivity to human suffering that this comment shows.

That anyone could say a player *deserves* a season ending injury due to "karma" is disgusting; of course immediately disregarding incredible outpouring of sympathy from Rapids fans of all stripes to Zakuani.

Unbelievable lack of class. Unbelievable lack of human decency. Decent Seattle fans (which I'm sure constitute the majority) should be ashamed to hear such filth from one of their own.

Wow this could really change team up. I think we could see more formations variations other then 4-4-2.

    Wish Conner a speedy recovery!

    Attention Supporters-

Trying to organize (at the last minute) a small tribute for Conor Casey at tonight's Pink Cows match.

Passing out signs with '9' on the front and lyrics to the Conor Casey anthem on the back. Plan is to have everyone hold up their '9' sign when the clock reads 9:00 in the first half and sing the song. I'll have signs and lyrics at the Class VI/PA tailgate prior to the game.

Not sure how well this will work on such short notice but I felt like we should do something. Just a small gesture and I'm hoping others will want to participate as well.

Again, signs and lyrics available at tonight's CVI/PA tailgate (VIP West lot; south stadium). Thanks everyone for your support!
