I thought you were asking who I thought would be Carrick's ideal partner not who was available and might come who I think would work. That's an entirely different question. Is there a point here? If we'd deployed Keane in those games the manner in which we deployed Carrick would we have conceded fewer? If not, then I don't see what your point is.

 

I don't think Vidal is 100% set on Bayern. He's said he wants to follow Heynckes but if a bigger club shows interest and is aggressive in doing so, he could be swayed away. It's just that United aren't aggressive enough when it comes to these types of transfers.

The last major player they tried to go for was Ronaldinho and that was a summer long saga that I think changed the club's transfer policy quite a bit. It's made United far more passive regarding top talent.

Well..I think you know what was meant by that..but I'll repeat clearer - when it comes to top talent outside the Premiership, there is a pattern. The Ronaldinho transfer saga was the catalyst for United's pattern regarding these types of transfers.

 

The point is that the defense had to do less work despite playing a more attacking game.

 

How did this "pattern" apply to Ronaldo, Anderson and Nani?

 

Vidal is a promising player who I rate highly, but his stock does not put him in "major" transfer status. Only after he proves himself at a big club will people be aware of him at a level he deserves. We lost out on Ronnie to Barca, having made a bid. Vidal might go to Bayern without anyone launching a competing bid. You make an interesting and somewhat valid point, but I don't think it applies particularly to this transfer outside of the fact that Vidal is not in England.

 

None of these apply first of all because none had the experience a Vidal for instance has. And I would only rate Ronaldo as the genuine talent out of those three - only he looked like he could be molded to be something special. Anderson and Nani had potential most hyped youngsters have but they were always going to be a gamble. We're talking certified talent.

 

You are making statements in hindsight here.

Anderson, without a doubt, was as hyped as say a Goetze is now and was considered as amongst the best talents.

 

He's got European experience and WC experience. I think that puts him at a higher level. It's fairly obvious he's one of the best in his position already, if that wasn't already the case. Only a move to La Liga or Prem will remove any kind of reluctance to call him world class but to me he's easily top tier in his position already.

Inter have been interested actually for several years now but he plays in the Bundesliga so talent there is generally ignored from the big two and Seria A, for irrational reasons of course. I think if he doesn't move this summer he will catch major attention next season since he will be playing in the CL.
