The boss of News International is an American citizen, (albeit previously an Australian), one Rupert Murdoch. The man's news reporting organisations have plumbed new depths over the years, particularly Faux News but also his tabloid 'red-top' newspapers in the UK. But THIS just about takes the biscuit. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14017661 News of the World 'hacked Milly Dowler phone' An investigator working for the News of the World allegedly hacked into the mobile phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, a lawyer for the family says. Mark Lewis said police told her parents that Glenn Mulcaire hacked into her voicemail while she was missing. The Guardian has claimed he intercepted messages left by relatives and said the NoW deleted some, which gave her parents false hope she was alive. It seems there are over 300m guns in the USA and I'm led to believe some of you guys are pretty good shots I'm just saying...
UK is letting journalism down Not enough direct culprits within the UK for you? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Mulcaire http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/05/m...l=1&adxnnlx=1309816949-PqN2ivOXHGhXiNVmU79lwQ
Re: America is letting the world down Murdoch sets the agenda for his papers and other news outlets. That's the point. I'm just saying... buck your ideas up a bit fellas
Re: America is letting the world down We didn't birth him...don't blame us for that travesty on man kind.
Re: America is letting the world down Wow - this story is a shocker Hacking celebs is one thing (who cares about them), but this has got the public outrage factor
Re: America is letting the world down I thought this thread was going to be about the completely unacceptable delay in Beyonce cloning technology. Disappointed....
Re: America is letting the world down if that technology is ever developed, I want to submit Shakira as the first candidate - assuming it won't be like 30 years from now and Shakira is an old hag by then.
Re: America is letting the world down Murdoch creates a culture where he will push the boundary of legitimacy in order to make money from his media companies. Hence the appalling conduct of the News of the World in the UK, and Fox News' blatant propaganda in the US. The sad thing is that it does indeed make money for News Corporation.
OK, then: Everybody deserves their own Shakira! You can already clone your own p/u/s/s/y, though the results may not be as intended: http://www.thecatgallery.com/cloned_kitten.html
Re: America is letting the world down Now revealed that they hacked into the voicemails of the parents of the Soham murder victims.
Re: OK, then: Everybody deserves their own Shakira! don't let the screen name fool you. I'm a dude. I may still be a pu$$y, but I'm a dude, who's a pu$$y. although come to think of it, I think I've been accused of being a d!ck or an a$$ much more than I have of being a pu$$y.
Re: America is letting the world down How is it that Brooks is not being immediately sacked/suspended? This occured while she was editor. Even if you can believe the absurd idea that the editor had no idea of the sources, News paid for this activity on her watch.
Re: America is letting the world down Look, we killed Osama. Can't the rest of the world step up and kill Murdoch?
Re: America is letting the world down Maybe let Pakistan do a commando style assassination, to even things out.
Re: America is letting the world down If she didn't know about it, surely she should have. As editor the buck stops with her. Anyway, tomorrow's Independent apparantly has evidence which challenges her statement. http://twitpic.com/5lq1db
Re: America is letting the world down Holy shit. I had thought yesterday they'd try to make Mulcaire and a hack or two wear it, but now it is looking a bit too big for that. At some point Dear Rupert's going to need to throw a bigger piece of meat to the wolves
Re: America is letting the world down There's a Commons debate on the matter tomorrow where Labour are likely to press for an immediate public inquiry.
OK, then: Everybody deserves their own Shakira! I'll take your word for it. The meaning was, that you can clone for yourself the puzzy of your choice ...
Re: America is letting the world down The scummy activities of the 'meeja' are only a part of this story, albeit a big part. The other aspect is this... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13092045 Rebekah Brooks's 'reporters paid police' claim probed A criminal investigation into claims journalists paid police officers for information is being considered by Scotland Yard, it has been confirmed. Former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks (nee Wade) told a Commons committee in 2003 journalists "had paid police for information in the past". The question that arises is, will the matter be properly investigated by the authorities. The article continues... In a letter to Keith Vaz MP, chairman of the home affairs committee, Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick said police planned "to conduct a scoping exercise to establish whether there are now any grounds for beginning a criminal investigation", following the 2003 comments. However, the date at the top of that BBC story is 15 April 2011 Last updated at 10:52 ... to investigate the details in Mulcaire's notebooks that they've had for about FIVE YEARS!!! So I think we can take that as a NO!!!! Essentially, what we SEEM to have is the police accepting bribes for inside information on stories from journalists, journalists breaking the law by hacking into people's phones and the police, (a person of a more salacious inclination might refer to them as 'the bribee' ), being asked to investigate them, (the 'briber'), and, apparently, not doing a very good job of it. The fact that the last 5 British prime ministers have beaten a path to Rupert Murdoch's door means the whole thing leaves a rather bitter taste in the mouth. Blair even went so far as to fly out to Australia to meet Murdoch prior to the 1997 election for his 'seal of approval', probably so he wouldn't suffer the same fate as Neil Kinnock in '92 when Kinnock claimed they'd lost because, (as the Sun itself repeated), for the tories. Actually, that's probably not true but it MIGHT have tipped the balance in some key marginals I suppose. Of course, it's also particularly toxic because the tories, (who Murdoch backed in the last election), are presently deciding whether he will be allowed to buy all the remaining shares, (and therefore control), in BSkyB, promising that he'll sell off his shares in Sky News and cover the losses Sky News makes every year but WON'T exercise ANY editorial control. Because we've all seen how he promised not to exercise editorial control of The Times when he took it over, (and how he BROKE that promise), the number of people who believe this is precisely ZERO!!! Well, except, of course, for the tories, AKA the people he helped put into power, AKA the people who have to decide on the issue of whether he can buy BSkyB.
Re: America is letting the world down Looks like they're going to try to use Coulson for that. Apparantly, NI have just discovered emails indicating that he authorised payments to the police for stories. That's very convenient timing.
Re: America is letting the world down Which is why any claims for a public inquiry to be haled after the police inquiry has completed need to be shot down. The Met appear to be complicit in this whole affair and therefore cannot be trusted to carry out their own investigations into this.
