Time to narrow the poll down and really see what people prefer. It seems the only two viable candidates are Deschamps and Luis Enrique. Most of the media is reporting that it's a done deal with Luis Enrique already, but for the sake of having a poll which one do you prefer?

I choose Luis Enrique over Deschamps. I choose him because while he might have less experience than the Frenchman and might not know Serie A as well he's a choice that fascinates me. Selected by Franco Baldini himself, it shows me that there is an idea and a philosophy that he is hoping to build at AS Roma. A team that moves away from the Italian mindset and starts to break the mold.

    It's a gamble, but it's a gamble I'm willing to take.

Blurb from Il Tempo about some of the specifics of Luis Enrique's contract. It looks like he will be offered a two year deal with an option for a third. Prizes for meeting certain objectives. His salary is still being discussed, but is expected to fall at around 1 to 1.5 million euros net (2 to 3 gross) a year. They say not much is missing to close the deal, and that Luis Enrique has already said yes to the project. He will be bringing some of his collaborators from Barcelona with him to work at Roma. He should arrive next week in Roma to sign and be presented to the fans. Preparations are already underway for the press conference where Sabatini will for the first time speak as an official at AS Roma.

The Gazzetta Dello Sport is also reporting the same news as Il Tempo. There article is feature in full bellow:

Choosing the best fit is so hard to asses, but I'm basically on the same wavelength as you at this point. A fresh new start for Roma should include a new coaching philosophy. I would have no problem with Deschamps, he hasn't had a a great deal of experience but he has done a lot in that short time. The fact that Baldini has put his support behind Enrique is enough for me. I am also intrigued by the idea of moving away from typical Italian football or at least moving towards a more free flowing, attacking style of football.

I copied this from you guys but I am very much in agreement with it---> I am also intrigued by the idea of moving away from typical Italian football or at least moving towards a more free flowing, attacking style of football.

Imagining one day playing that attacking football in a possible new stadium made with out a running track makes me start to drool alittle. sorry. :p

Luis Enrique here as well. All the reasons are already stated by DDR and stugotz. We must start playing modern football. You need 4-3-3 and fast wingers to be competitive today. Just look at what Tottenham, an average English team, did to Milan and Inter(apart from that blurb in the first game vs Inter). Fast wings are the way to go in this era.

A Gamble, I hope it works out. I think our new owners will be very patient on him. The problem is the fanbase, like myself lol . We are impatient fanbase, once result go bad we will call for his head. I think our new owners will give him more then one year to install his philosophy. We are making huge change, u cant expect direct results next year.

Great player he was. I used to like him more then luis figo at barca. I hope he turns into superb coach.

The system isn't much different from what Spaletti used to play. Vucinic should fit into that left winger/inside forward role pretty well. If we keep Menez or get Torosidis(or whoever we get) there's your right winger. I guess Lamela and Alvarez would be playing center midfielders, with De Rossi doing the job Busquets does, just without all the whining and crying around. What I mean is, 4-3-3 shouldn't be that unfamiliar to our players. What I think will be the biggest problem is the sheer number if new players we are gonna get. It will take time to blend 5-6 new players into the squad.

My understanding is Lamela and Alvarez are more advanced players rather than midfielders. Especially in the case of Lamela. I don't know if I'm wrong as I haven't seen much of them. With Argentina the other day Lamela played where Messi would play.

Looks like it's definitely Luis...we'll have to see what he can do. I don't like his unfamiliarity with Italian calcio, but let's hope he takes the summer to study the league in depth and begin some tactical strategies.

Can't for him to praise Totti in his pres conf...it's customary for any new player/staff. :)

Luis ENRIQUE Martinez " There is 50 % chance I become the next roma manager"
He says there is 50 % chance he becomes the next Spalletti.

That's exactly the kind of crap I'm hoping we put an end to. There are 11 players on the pitch and all of them equally important. No more putting anyone on a pedestal, regardless of how good they are. The team comes first.

Just the notion that he's expected to throw praise on him the second he arrives is flawed. Everyone knows Totti is an amazing player, why should he be obliged to say the obvious.

It's a forum, we're all fans. If someone thinks Deschamps would be a better choice they should feel free to say it. There are certainly a lot of arguments for it.

Give him a vote, you know you want to ;)

I am more worried about new players.

I don't think that tradition will come to an end anytime soon. DiB even praised Totti when he came aboard calling him a great champion. Maybe we're reading too much into the praising of Totti...maybe it's just a sign of respect for the captain and key figure of the team when new people come in. I don't really care who gets praise in the conferences...it's just words for the newspapers. I agree, we do need culture change...it's a new era and we need a fresh start. Will Totti have influence over Luis? I think be so...Totti is used to being in command...hard to teach an old dog new tricks. As long as we win...that's all i care about. If Totti controls the room or Luis is in charge...winnings, winning. I feel once Totti officially retires, we will see a more balance locker room. But i do hope Luis does take command like Claudio tried to do. Even if it upsets people.

Re: The Coaching Situation (Round 3)

The guy is 35, and it took him until March to be able to do any running. How much influence can he possibly hold? If it was a 28 year old Totti it be one thing, but let's be honest about thing if he hadn't been carried over Baggio with a bunch of penalties it would have been a disaster season for him. His passing has taken a huge dip, and his running was more or less non existent, he got stripped of I don't know how many balls. I really fail to see how a player, who we all know is champion, but is clearly at the end of his career is going to have all this influence. What's he going to do threaten to not renew his contract which expires when he's 37?

Especially with a new management coming into place, that's the type of thing that immediately needs to be stamped out. They need to establish themselves as the bosses and not the players. The mom and pop, family business mentality needs to head out the door with Rosella. If you don't like it, go and do a tour of duty in the MLS. It's no surprise they are buying players that can play wide in a 4-3-3, but also have trequartista skills. They are preparing for the future.

Re: The Coaching Situation (Round 3)

I voted for Deschamps. I just don't know enough about Luis Enrique and I am a little concerned about his adjustment to serie a especially with the expected turnover in the club (new players and management). I would feel more confident in Luis Enrique if we weren't changing *everything* at the club this summer. I think Deschamps would be a fine coach and he has been very successful as a player in Italy and the France NT. Luis Enrique also has had a very successful career in Spain and on the Spain NT. At the end of the day both appear to be up and comers with a lot of potential. I trust Baldini and Sabatini as they have forgotten more about football than I will ever know lol AS DCUroma stated, I am also worried about the players they are bringing. There is a lot of work to do in a *very* short period of time.

The only thing I would disagree with is labeling Deschamps as an "up and comer." I think as a coach he's pretty much established himself and how far he can go. Where as with Luis Enrique you really don't know where and how far he will go, with Deschamps I don't think he will ever be a star coach.

I voted Luis Enrique and is very simple, barcelona is the best team of the decade and his success comes from his work in the youngs teams and they not going to put anybody that not be the best for it. And then why not get a little piece from the best if you have the chance?.

I didn't vote as it's pretty much assured Luis will be our new manager...we just have to put trust in Sabatini on this one.
