Breakers come to town Sunday and on FSC... rather not have this on FSC so if it slightly rains people will go, even the mere threat of 30% showers at this time has me holding off getting tickets (IF it sells out before I get tickets, just as well, my Receational spending budget has been slashed this year) THis is an important game for the team to win at this early point in the season.
I get what you're saying about this game being televise because the slightest chance of rain means fans will opt to watch from home. I almost think the team should not advertize this fact until sunday afternoon . Believe there are a lot of fans who don't check the WPS website for these facts. Anyway, if I could attend that last home game in raging thunderstorm I'm not going to be deterred by some measily 30% chance of showers. However, mother-nature needs to get her sh*t together or else...
Was it really raining at the last match? I thought HOPE SOLO was just crying again? Here's something they should advertise: Thanks Widener!
Blaze, you know I will go to any game I can (Boston championship last year) We will most likely be there. It is my wife's birthday (and Mother's day) unless there are thunderstorms or sub 60 degree weather with heavy rain, we will be going.... there are a few games we have marked as must goes.... but we will see how the travel is to this stadium, it is quite out of the way for us and SB is easier to get to for us, longer commute but easier traveling
on a side note, my daughter wanted to Volunteer for the team again this year (this would have assured us of being at all the games) but we were told that they did not need volunteers... very disappointing as I possibly was in the position to volunteer also. She was a volunteer for most of last season in the fan zone and enjoyed it very much.
I'm going to try to make the trip from Maryland. (It helps that my mother-in-law lives just a few miles away.)
The earlier predictions of 30% passing showers have been downgraded. According to weather.com, there is now a less than 1% chance of precipitation of any kind this Sunday in Chester, PA. This game will likely be a sell out, and I'm so glad I already have my ticket and won't have to wait in one of those two lines that are sure to wrap around Widener's handicapped parking slash picnic tailgate area. Then I don't know what newsouth will say when the attendance of a capacity crowd is posted tomorrow. Perhaps we'll have to believe that all those hundreds of home opener fans cashed in their stubs for this one, artificially increasing the single game attendance on May 7.
i'm happy it's a sellout, hope all games are. based on last yr and people complaining where the team was playing and looking at attendance numbers under 3000 at games, how would i say anything other than they might not be around? i'll be trekking 8 hrs on the road to atl 3 times this yr to see philly, magicjack and wny, can only wish i was 50 miles from a stadium and few rain drops.
newsouth we need more dedicated fans like you. i do understand your frustration with the general attendance figures and teams that lack websites...
saw the usa vs brasil in both friendlies back in 2008 and fell for the game. this is the highest level, not a watered down version which looks like w-league. it's a better product visually than the mls which doesnt look much better than club football in brasil. it's an oddity why 5000 people wont sit out and enjoy two hrs of fun for $10-$15. sorry, wps in the form of w-league II is not a step up for women's soccer. 12-14 team league, 4500 avg attendance makes this thing go. at this moment i dont see it, cant even trick myself into believing after looking at the last 2 weeks in rochester. i honestly thought they'd be competing with boston for attendance rights.
Unless there are 1000-2000 walkups, I doubt this will be a sell out... a quick look at the ticket site and clicking through the sections shows a significant amount left to be sold (note: the GA will only let add 50 to the cart so there are at least 50 in 4 sections) plus anywhere from 50-200+ in each of the other sections they did not advertise the mothers day special, you have to call but it is buy 2 get one free (For Mom) I Hope people are buying and printing them at home tomorrow
because it's not a better product visually than mls. i loooove both mls and wps. and right now, altho wps is a higher form of women's soccer than mls is of men's soccer, it is not true, for me at least, that wps is a better visual product. and it seems that i'm not the only person who feels that way, so indicated by even the crowds who saw wps last year who keep staying away from wps (in at least a few of the same cities) this year.
Glad for the win, Nice of Kai to get the goal after she first missed, then had to poach her own miss... far end of the field and need to see a replay to see if was that good as people are saying --------------- I would think the stadium was half full... supports club got a number of mentions tnight at the game ---------------- Where were all the people using public tansportation and wanting the team closer to Philly ? ------------ Pics coming soon
Crowd (it wasn't crowd-ed) was loud but too small for Pro Soccer. I will post a SEPTA schedule thread for upcoming matches like the union does. there were literally only 2 people on the SEPTA for this game. I don't think people know how easy/hard it is to get to Widener (35 minutes on the R2 and 5 minutes on the 113 goes right to the stadium, alternately the MFL el to 69th street then 37 minutes on the 113). Again it comes down to advertising.
I wonder if posting that schedule on the facebook page would help? I'm guessing that page gets more views from the casual fan than this forum does Congrats on the victory. Kai missed that first 1v1 chance (Naeher's save w/ her legs) but worked really hard on the play to hit the post & then the follow up diving header. The angle was pretty darn tight on the shot for the 2nd goal so that was a rather good play, too. Your team seems to be the best set up to absorb/not miss a beat when the WWC players leave. Also, I like DiMartino and am she's not in the USWNT pool right now.
Good suggestion about FB. I liked being home before 9:30, instead of 11pm from Chester County like last year.
Yep, it seems the only starter from the last 2 games we would be missing is Arod. The starting back line of Magnusdottir, Kryzsik, McNeil and Robinson stays in tack. So does the mid of Sanderson, DiMartino, Farrelly and Buc. Up top, Arod leaves but Boquete has returned and with Del rio on the bench we should be fine.
They also have the option of moving Sanderson up and starting Lohman at outside mid. Lots of depth in the midfield this year.
Official attendance: 1,879 according to the WPS website. Very low, but actually the highest number out of the 3 games this weekend.
Considering that it was Mother's Day, that's better than I might have expected. Also was Race for the Cure day in Philly, which is a huge event. Add in the fact that people could watch it on TV instead of going to the game, and I think they did OK. I'm sure they want to do better, but it should improve this summer.
Sanderson has been playing well, I would not move her... I liked what I saw from Del Rio when she came in.... team is in great shape... need to Get Lohman on the field
Considering this was the home opener finnally... I would have expected more. I may be incorrect but this is lower than any of the games last year
