Well I don't see West Hams song as an anthem, plus they're all nut jobs. And I've never heard the Timber's Army sing "You are my sunshine", But I'd question it's 'anthemness' as well. But when they're singing, it's probably saying that the "sunshine" is their club and then the lyrics make sense.

You guys are getting defensive. And I told you not to. I'm not saying it's stupid, I'm asking what makes it special for you guys. Do the lyrics mean something besides kansas and wizards or are you just trying to be different? I'm not trying to bash it. Obviously every person on here has said they love it. Why? Why should I love it coming as a new fan?

I think this song is more similar to Forever Blowing Bubbles than it is to YNWA. The lyrics are not necessarily solidarity like YNWA, but the meaning behind the song can be by representing the story of the club up until this point and looking at the beautiful things in this world.

OK. Decided to look it up. It does have a meaning. Not orginially what I thought, but it wasn't just to sing a song.

"It's the 77th minute, the game is tied. Portland's beloved Mascot Timber Jim, along with his newly orphaned grand daughter are singing "you are my sunshine" to honor Jim's Daughter (who died in a car accident). The Timbers army joins in out of respect.'

It's the idea that finally we have found the place somewhere over the rainbow, by finding our home and it fits well with us finally being over the rainbow imagery as well. The team and stadium our are somewhere over the rainbow.

I see what you're saying. Have you guys done this in the past? And does anyone have video of it at all? Also what part of the songs get sung. It makes since "Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue" because the Teams colors are blue.

by the way, thanks for giving me an answer instead of just getting defensive.

No we have not done it before. What this thread has turned into is an attempt to find an anthem that we can sing before games. Something more in depth than the chants we've done in the past.

Why do you guys get so jumpy and defensive so quickly? Geez. And over something that you've never even done before. I must have missed something that pissed you guys off. All I did was ask a question. Didn't mean for it to get everyone on edge.

The joys of internet discussion where you can't always understand the tone of people's posts.

I think your reading a tad to much into minor confusion caused by a rhetorical question I failed to register properly. If you think this is jumpy and defensive wait a while... :D

Sorry for the thread jack on this page. Should the posts about the song be moved to the other thread?

I'll start with some of the obvious moments, Johnston's bloody face, Molnar's goal in the final, Igor's free kick in the Open Cup, and the 2004 comeback against San Jose. As far as player's go Preki, Johnston, Diego Gutierrez, Meola, and Kerry Zavagnin are the main one's I would want.

    What a Wonderful World... duh...

Apparently I just needed to make a public acknowledgment of my ignorance first.

So what are the plans for the home opener? Anything you guys need help with? I've got a lot of free time on my hands for the next few weeks.

We will need everyones help very soon. Banners are in production right now. As soon as we have them in hand its going to be an all out paintfest. I don't really want to discuss content in public as to keep the surprise for the opener. That being said, its going to be sweet.
