"Northern Rock must be an Ex Pat thing because Ive never heard anybody call the national team "northern rock"
I know they had to go into Commonwealth because of TV requirements for the championship. Big stadium but cheap tickets so hopefully they get a big crowd out. I saw on their facebook that they had a promo code for 50% off general admission tickets http://bit.ly/standunited and use the promo code: standunited hope it still works. I picked my tickets up early.
Yea it would have been 5 years ago, not now though Northern Rock is the name of a bank that had to be bailed out by parliament.
I think Miro was trying to say Norn Iron Norn Iron - is an informal and affectionate[citation needed] local nickname used by both nationalists and unionists to refer to Northern Ireland, derived from the pronunciation of the words "Northern Ireland" in an exaggerated Ulster accent (particularly one from the Greater Belfast area). The phrase is seen as a light-hearted way to refer to Northern Ireland, based as it is on regional pronunciation. Often refers to the Northern Ireland national football team.
Well, they do call it "Norn Iron" affectionately in Bangor, I can tell you. But for the most part they call the country Northern Ireland, and themselves British. I was there in 2007, and didn't hear much about the national football team, because every time I asked someone would talk about the recent win over England and the forthcoming DVD release.
I know what for the most part means but I don't know what naff off means and considering this is a Canadian forum that I've never seen you contribute to, you might want to, as we say in Canada, ******** off.
I contribute as regularly as I can, and seeing as this is the internet and I have spent a lot of time in Montreal in "Canada" I dont see your meaning, other than idiot xenophobia mixed with a desire to talk about the politcal situation in a country you do not have any knowledge of.. nice try troll.
You're coming to a Canadian forum, and I'm trolling? I also moderated this board for some time and I know one guy who should be thankful that I'm not modding anymore or he would have been gone months ago so please don't tell me I'm trolling. I have no desire to get into a discussion about the idiots in NI. The only knowledge I have is that my family left that divided place and I thank God they did. I don't know what it's like now and I don't care but I am pretty sure there were members of my family who didn't want to be described as British and there were many more like them. That's all I was trying to say and this is no place for ridiculous Irish politics. Mod Note: No politics at all please ... not of any stripe, nation, party or media outlet!
Talking to Maoca is a waste of time...Don't even bother... By the way the "northern rock" was on flags and songs at the Czech v. Northern Ireland game in WC qualifier in Prague I was at ...The N. Irish were great fans, cheered, enjoyed soccer and caused no trouble. Watch how he is going to attack now...LOL
So, getting back to the Canadian Championship, first round predictions anyone? so far this season in their respective leagues, the Canadian club records are as follows: Club...................W - D - L FC Edmonton........2 - 0 - 0 Whitecaps FC.......1 - 3 - 2 Toronto FC...........1 - 3 - 2 Montréal Impact....0 - 0 - 2
I see the games will be on simultaneously on the 27th. Is this so that fans can watch the CCL afterwards at 10pm EDT?
Sorry, RedCoatsforever, my post came after yours, I'll bump it up - Moaca So, getting back to the Canadian Championship, first round predictions anyone? so far this season in their respective leagues, the Canadian club records are as follows: Club...................W - D - L FC Edmonton........2 - 0 - 0 Whitecaps FC.......1 - 3 - 2 Toronto FC...........1 - 3 - 2 Montréal Impact....0 - 0 - 2
I see you're both now referring to Monty Crues Fan as "Irish". I feel compelled to point out that he seemed to be agreeing with my comment about Northern Irelanders referring to themselves as British, and probably wouldn't like being referred to as "The Irish Fan". Just to prove I'm sincere in my affinity for Northern Ireland, here's a saying/factual statement from the country: Maradonna, good Pelé, better, GEORGE BEST. So, yeah, I think FC Edmonton are going to win their home game against TFC, and that Whitecaps will dominate Montréal in both matches. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
One of these days redcoatsforever we'll get back to this So, getting back to the Canadian Championship, first round predictions anyone? so far this season in their respective leagues, the Canadian club records are as follows: Club...................W - D - L FC Edmonton........2 - 0 - 0 Whitecaps FC.......1 - 3 - 2 Toronto FC...........1 - 3 - 2 Montréal Impact....0 - 0 - 2
I'm positive that if it weren't for Best's alcoholism and the way it shortened his career, he would now be considered the best of all time ahead of Pelé... ...unfortunately, all I can do is speculate, and I am routinely chastised in conversations for this perspective. I'm even going to offer an olive branch here, too, a slight concession to you, Miro, on the U-20 subject. Clearly the slections process is broken. We have too many young guys playing development football with (although not the greatest of great) reputable clubs in Europe. I find it very hard to believe that these guys are all turning down callups. I'm not going to say what's wrong, because I don't know. For all I know they pick the guys from CSL and college/university teams because of their budget. Now that I've said this, on the U-20 subject, I do think this thread should be used for the NCC discussion, and so if you want to talk about the U-20 issues, well, you've already got your U-20 concacaf thread up and running.
George Best, same as Andrej Kvasnak or many other players like Adriano have too many demons...They can be brilliant or self destruct. He was a fantastic footballer. As far as the U-20 goes,it is beyond any doubt that the figure head,Gazzolla, pushed in there by Montogliani {and Traficane and Maestracci},who is "in charge" of coaching appointments at CSA Board, was clearly over his head...That guy couldn't run a high school soccer team. The guy had absolutely no clue what they needed, what they were looking for,he would politically down play success,if it wasn't the "pre-selected politically correct" players etc. and etc...Then of the assistants, once they found out how hapeless he is,started bringing their friends and country man into the picture{Carbajal} and pushing them on to the team,so the final result was what it was.Surprised they even managed to score 2 goals vs. Guadeloupe... The sense of sadness comes from the fact that there was a core and few players that weren't there and/or weren't used properly that could have under proper coaching get to the U-20 WC...Politics and CSA destroyed that...they would rather throw that away, same as TFC will throw games away to feature Doneil Henry,Cordon etc... Everything around CSA and especially TFC is all politics and bs at the expense of success. I have never seen anything like that ever, only in Canada at CSA watch.
Oh okay, he was asking for your advice, that explains it. Insert Miro World image here. Such language, Miro, on a civilized forum. There's still hope for you Miro, if these posts are upsetting you, you still have some semblance of reality left.
you brought it up mate not me... I hate when lads start talkinbg about what is going on in NI/The north and then try the whole "im not here to talk about politics" line, I HATE bringing politics into sport, so don't dare tar me with the same brush as a lot of the morons I unfortunatley have to share a country with. Its obvious that there are a lot of people who dont consider themselves British, me included doesnt make it any more relevant. Oh and BTW its an absolutely wonderful place to live now, amazing history, nice people great seafood. I wouldn't swap it for the world moving here was the best decision my family ever made.
