Man, I kept hoping the old thread would die so I wouldn't have to open up a new one ... but here it is. Just a refresher, the original post was on 12/7/10 (listed first) and Alan's countdown clock from yesterday...
Come Sherman, set the way back machine for Dec 7 2010. We can prevent the original poster from starting the first thread, thereby preventing this one from ever happening. Gee Mr Peabody, you're a Genius! Quite quite Sherman
FYI, I have a source that says Somerville (Innerbelt Rd./connected to the Green Line thing) is dead and has been for several months. MBTA was willing to cooperate to make it happen, city of Somerville was willing to cooperate, Kraft backed out. My guy didn't have any insight as to what the latest site speculation was.
But...but he's committed! He loves soccer! He's a savvy businessman! I mean, his organization wouldn't just say something to pacify the league and fans. No way. All hail Fortress Gillette. Please pass me that 5 Guys burger...
"Hey Mr. Peabody, what's this little flag logo? I've never seen it before." "Well Sherman, you're not alone. This was the emblem of a certain soccer team in New England called the Revolution. They were sold in 2018, moved to Miami and became the Fusion." "Were folks not interested in watching soccer in New England Mr. Peabody?" "Quite the contrary Sherman. It seems it all went sour when people stopped traveling miles and miles and miles to a town called Foxboro to see the team play with 48,000 empty seats. They were led to believe a Boston soccer stadium was coming, but, well, it never did. Our way back machine journey starts on December 3rd 2010. You should enjoy this Sherman ..."
think Peabody and sherman could go back to the day before they offered Burns the job and run him over?
I've heard the same ... Somerville isn't being discussed as one of the two locations they're looking at. And no, I don't know anymore than that.
Re: Revolution Stadium groundbreaking "12-24 months" Part II But not in Somerville made a change to the title
Or it's all an elaborate smokescreen. When the money involved is as significant as it is, anything that may lower acquisition costs or facilitate the planning process can come into play.
Even I can jump on this and hope!! =) Or actually believe that whatever plan they have in mind will blow the Somerville site away!!(No sarcasm intended or implied)
For me that's better than Somerville...although Somerville would have been more "Boston". Plus, a stadium designed just right would have had a great view of the Zakim Bridge and the Boston skyline. For Wonderland..I'd just enclose it without any openings on the "stage" end... For T riders it's riding out to the last stop of the blue line. For traffic...It's a real mess around rush hour(Would anyplace be real good for Rush Hour?) But, as far as Saturday nights are concerned it's easy. Would like a little bit of an upgrade for 1A..And while we're at it...Finish the I-95-Canton to Lynn/Peabody connection as it was designed 40 or so years ago and it would be great for all driving fans. but that's really wishing upon a star!!
I'm actually surprised that the Somerville site is dead. I thought for sure that was the location that they always wanted. One would think Wonderland has to be a site that they are seriously looking into at this point.
Either that, or build over the rail yards in Allston and rebrand to Allston Villa. Of course, that would mean Kevin would have a lifetime contract and the official club theme song would be the Toasters' "Take the B Train to Allston." All I can cling to for hope is that the "Kraft backed out of Sommervilel" meme is just a smokescreen and a ruse to lower the property values of any land he may need to buy up to make the deal work. If he really did back out and the deal never happens in Sommerville or anywhere else, words can't describe the venom. You Kool-Aid Drinkers think people are hating on the Krafts now, you ain't seen nothin....
Gross, I'd hope not! Though if Abromavich's wallet was available over Kraft's, I might just swallow my pride.
Ironic you say that as Wonderland hugs the Boston Line.
