At this stage we've no idea what sort of team we will have for this match. The coach may blood a few new players as World Cup Qualifying starts later this year in Asia, or as he is German he may decide to stick with the current team that just came second in the Asian Cup hoping to get a good result against a German team that will probably be testing out a few different players. We currently lack quality strikers. We played in the Asian Cup with midfeilders starting up front for all six games. The only time we used specialist strikers was as substitutes. The midfield is solid. The defence is OK but can get caught out against fast sides as the players are getting on a bit. The goalkeeper is old, but still very good.

 

Whoever is the best at the time of the game is who should be picked for the game.


I really wish I was making a detour through Germany on my way to the Maldives for this game... just that it would be a two month detour. Too expensive.

 

Then i'll play the devil's advocate here and say perhaps we should rest a few players, not all of them of course, but some of them for sure, I don't see why not. Someone like Wilkshire could do with one for example. A few surprise selections out of nowhere would be nice

Goalkeepers: Federici, Langerak

Defenders: Lucas Neill, David Carney, Matthew Spiranovic, Shane Lowry, Luke De Vere, Josh Rose, Ivan Franjic

Midfielders: Brett Emerton, Mile Jedinak, Neil Kilkenny, Adam Sarota, Matt McKay, Dario Vidosic, Nathan Burns

Forwards: Harry Kewell, Nikita Rukavytsya, Robbie Kruse, Brent McGrath

Wouldn't mind seeing guys like Chris Herd, Mustafa Amini, Ben Kantarovski(I would of had him the squad if he wasn't injured!) etc in too, don't really bother too much about what they're doing right now at their clubs, they'll be key fixtures to the team in the future and we have plenty of friendlies that Osieck will use to test all sorts of players before the Qualifiers start too. For this period I don't think it's about winning and results, I just want to see all the players we have available and if they're good enough to step up now or in the future.

 

another player you can add to that would be james troisi considering he returned from injury on the weekend..

 

Yup agreed, he'll most likely be apart of the training camp before hand also, so lets hope he sticks around for the Germany friendly too.

 

I'd like to see Federici play the first half and langerak play the second, especially if langerak plays over the next few weeks for dortmund...

 

I'd rather Coe over Federici.

 

Why's that? I havn't seen much of Coe to make a judgment. Langerak looked the goods for Dortmund.

Interesting to see how this squad takes shape. I'd like to see a mix of the old and the new. The generational shift needs to continue to take place in the lead up to the World Cup as many of the players from the AC squad wont make it.

 

I can't say I see Federici as any sort of #1 at any point in the future. His decision making is really bad, probably worse than any of our so-called "future #1" 'keepers (i.e., Coe, Langerak, Birighitti, Ryan) and is still making the same bad decisions that he was making a couple of years ago. He hasn't really progressed. One of the big ones (and the most frustrating for me) is that he tends to want to sweep balls often, but never knows the right time to do so.

Don't get me wrong, he's a good goalkeeper and Reading should be happy with him, but I just don't think he's going to be the goalkeeper we need when Schwarzer moves on. I have a feeling that, when the time comes that Schwarzer retires/outlasts his usefulness at Socceroos level, someone else (perhaps one or two others) will have surpassed Adam.

I'm not saying Coe IS that person, but I think he'd be a better option as a test. Hell, even Theo, the way he's playing (though we're not sure whether he can actually take the step up).

 

I don't think Federici is that bad with his desicion making, sure he's made a couple silly mistakes this season but he's made up for it in tonnes by keeping Reading in games that they should of been losing. He's definitely a very eccentric keeper but as far as reflexes, and being able to command his box he's better than the rest by some distance at the moment., and he's still only 25 or 26? he's got another 10 years ahead of him.

I think Langerak is still a behind him in his development, against Bayern I don't think he caught a single cross and instead punched every single one of them, even with Federici's height, Federici would of claimed all of them.

Coe looked good in the UAE friendly but was constantly hounded at previous clubs for making mistakes, perhaps he is finally turning a corner, but surely his history suggests that he is much more of an irrational keeper. But i'm certainly open to any player wanting to try their hand for sure.

Jones well, he's never going to amount to anything, Galekovic definitely has not looked assuring in any of his Socceroos appearance but Birighitti is definitely one we should all look out for, Very good all round game and very consistent even though he also made a mistake in a big game not long ago - for me he is the best young keeper playing domestically at the moment.

I don't rate Matt Ryan much though, kid makes mistakes all the time and because of his age he get's a lot of leeway. He's got nothing on Birighitti in my opinion!

 

Surely Josh Rose could be in contention for a spot, given that McKay is being considered.

But otherwise that's no different from Verbeek's stance.

 

And once again, this was a perfect opportunity to call up and start bringing up the lads who will take us to 2014 and beyond. AND once again, he calls up the same Euro guard, not giving any of the new lads a chance.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Getting a bit ahead of themselves. He's only just left for Germany to take a medical.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Send in a bunch of kids, get our arses handed to us, giving absolutely no confidence whatsoever to youngsters and potentially hinder their development, thus stopping us from even having a next generation of players that can compete at a decent level. Smart.

 

Where is Tommy Oar & why is he not in that training squad at least? Injury?

 

One of those good old "he'd be better off staying with his club" situations?
