I was the biggest "worry wart."

The person who told me Mitch was "visibly nervous" in the BVB II match has been my best source of BVB news over the years.

And he may have been right. But the rest of the team embraced Mitch just as if he were Roman on Saturday night.

This match isn't "Mitch's Making" just yet.

But it is a huge freakin' step in the right direction.

Like the rest of the team, Mitch has to keep up his stellar play.

According to "kicker", Neven Subotic suffered what seems to be a badly bruised foot in Serbia's 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland.

Subotic will miss Serbia's Tuesday match against Estonia.

According to the BvB list, Sahin is out for the rest of the season. I have no link and no actual source so, more to follow...

Injury Forces Sven Bender Out Of Upcoming Germany Qualifiers

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender had to pull out of Germany's three upcoming fixtures, which includes two UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers, due to a knee injury, the German Football Federation said.

The 22-year-old had been hoping to press his claims for a regular place on the squad after winning just one cap to date, but had surgery on the injury today, which forced him to miss the German champions final league match.

Click here for the rest of the story at FIFA.com.

***As the bit of the article states, Bender had knee surgery earlier today in Augsburg.

Nothing major though. He should only be unable to train for about four weeks.

At the BVB training camp in Switzerland, Marcel Schmelzer will be out for a bit with a hip flexor issue.

Patrick Owomoyela, who has undergone hip surgery himself and was thought to be ruled out until September, now believes he might be able to train with the team again after the Swiss training camp. Owomoyela is not in Switzerland with the team.

Sven Bender is still rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee. The club seems to be simply taking its time with him.

Julian Koch will undergo knee surgery sometime "in the coming weeks" according to the Official BVB Website. He probably will not play a role on the team at all this coming season. :(

Guys, word is getting out that Barrios' injury is far worse than Paraguay told BVB.

"kicker" magazine speculates that Barrios will be out for up to six weeks.

If you want to discuss what that might mean transfer-wise, let's discuss that at the transfer thread.

I'll be posting a version of this message there too.

I know it happens to other clubs too but what is it with our big name guys getting injured playing for their NT's? Kagawa last year and Lucas this year. Here's hoping for a quick recovery.

It was never much of a problem before because we didn't have as many "big name guys" who were also internationals.

Now we have more and they are getting injured.

    It happens........

Is expected to return to the team soon but I believe that he won't play against Arsenal. Perhaps 10 minutes next weekend.

What would you guys describe Barrios' status as?

Playing at ~80% fitness? When is he going to get a crack at being the starter again?

Or has Lewandowski earned that distinction now with his solid play of the last few games (I didn't see today's match mind you)?

    Still not fully fit.

    Yeah, about 85-95%....

    Probably when he's 100%.

Nah. Klopp would more than likely move Lewandowski to Kagawa's spot and put Barrios up front.

But Lewandowski was on fire up until yesterday. And I can't say he wasn't yesterday because I haven't watched it yet either.

All credit to Lewandowski for showing he can indeed do it against some of the better clubs.

BVB's Website reports Sven Bender was substituted at halftime of the match in Stuttgart yesterday because he aggravated a foot injury so much that the foot became numb.

Early rumors say Bender will miss the Olympiakos match..... :(

Leitner played for Bender in Stuttgart.

Since the Olympiakos match is at home, maybe Klopp will take that chance.....

Klopp Continues To Have Worries Over Götze, Kehl and Gündogan

    Klopp and Götze

Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund traveled to warm, spring-like La Manga, Spain on Thursday. Head coach Jürgen Klopp is preparing his team for their major task in the second half of the Bundesliga season under the Spanish sun. That task is making up the three point lead in the standings currently held by Bayern München. Klopp says, “We need to find our rhythm as quickly as possible.”

To aid in finding this rhythm, the BVB leadership have agreed to two test matches during this training camp. On Saturday, BVB will face top Belgian club Standard Liege. On Wednesday, BVB will face Spanish second division side, FC Elch.

However, the BVB coach had to go into the initial training session without three key players.

Mario Götze is still dealing with the aftermath of his torn muscle, suffered in the 1-1 draw against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in mid-December. On top of this, the 19-year old German international is also suffering from a gastrointestinal problem, the result being, Götze will not be able to train before the weekend.

Defensive midfielder Sebastian Kehl is also dealing with muscle issues which were already bothering him during BVB’s German Cup battle at 2nd Bundesliga leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf just before the winter break. Kehl, who is suspected to have a slight muscle tear, was only able to take part in a reduced training session on Thursday.

The third problem child is Ilkay Gundogan, who suffered a sprain on Wednesday. The four million euro midfielder also had a reduced training session. Just what the 21-year old international doesn’t need as he was becoming a bigger factor on the team before the winter break. Gündogan, who was benched quite a bit in the first half of the season and did not even see action in the 5-1 blowout over Wolfsburg called it a “learning experience.” The former 1. FC Nürnberg midfielder said, “They (the benchings) did me good. They showed me I wasn’t quite ready (for this level) yet.”

The champions definitely have enough competition for the “double six.” Moritz Leitner has recovered from his broken rib and Sven Bender is back after his compound jaw fracture. And of course, there is Kehl…..

According to this kicker article, Neven Subotic (pictured below) has an adductor issue and will not be able to play in Wednesday's practice match against Spanish 2nd Division club FC Elch.

    Felipe Santana
is still recovering from the ankle injury he suffered in our final Bundesliga match of 2011 at SC Freiburg. The article speculates that Patrick Owomoyela will partner with Mats Hummels against FC Elch. Owomoyela last played center back for us in our German Cup victory at Fortuna Düsseldorf. The "bad" thing is, Owo earned two yellow cards in just 34 minutes in that match.

However, after consulting with club physician Dr. Markus Braun, BVB media relations chief Josef Schneck (apparently still in office) described Subotic's problem as "nothing dramatic."

Here's to hoping Subotic and/or Santana are able to play again on January 21st in Hamburg!

    HEJA BVB!!

According to this Ruhr Nachrichten article, Roman Weidenfeller has gotten in some extra work, should return to full team training on Wednesday and should be fit for Saturday's match against Hoffenheim.

The article also says Felipe Santana is ready to train again and should be available on Saturday should "events" keep Neven Subotic from participating.......

According to this "kicker" article, Shinji Kagawa will miss the next two to three weeks with a torn ankle ligament.

I expect Klopp to move Robert Lewandowski back to Kagawa's position and give Lucas Barrios his shot up front at Berlin this weekend.

For me, this move above would be the smart move.

However, given our lack of depth at the striker position, I would love it if Klopp were to try keeping Lewandowski up front and giving Ilkay Gündogan a shot in Kagawa's position.

After all, central midfield is Gündogan's natural position.

EDIT: Just checked the BVB website. Maybe Klopp is thinking the way I am......
