I haven't read any official notice that the field will be 70x110, but if so, I don't think we should be so sanguine. The difference between a 75x115 field and a 70x110 isn't just 'a couple of yards on either side,' but almost 1,000 square yards of space in which to play or, on other words, the bigger pitch is 12% bigger in area. This is a humongous difference and affects dramatically the way the game is played. Without space the game becomes tighter, more defensive and uglier. I think this is a huge problem and the front office should be encouraged to try and squeeze a few more yards out all around.
Well judging by the fact that they are right now cutting through the turf to access the already-drilled goal supports, it's going to take a lot more than encouragement to get more than 110 in length. The dimensions, whatever they are, are literally sealed in concrete at this point.
The only chance they had to make the field larger was to make the stage on the south end smaller, the curvature of the north end means that the field can't get any wider unless it's moved further south. I'm as disappointed as you are, but at this point there's nothing to be done.
I suspect they have maximized the space as best that they can. I would think that the width is more limiting than the length. It's going to seem awfully crowded at times ... difficult to maintain width on the wings.
Place looks very cool, just wondering how many of the seats will end up with obstructed views? The old-style ceiling posts are the least of it, no biggie unless you have one right in front of you. But the seats on either side of that new "stadium club" by the street look like they will be blocked as it juts out, maybe too far to see the opposite goals. And for the sides along either big wall of the old "homeplate" boxes I wonder if you will have trouble as well. That one section in the top right corner is blocked by that elevator shaft. Will fans have trouble seeing thru the hanging press box if they are in the back rows to the left? Not to harp, as it is totally unique for MLS, a fine addition. It should be a hell of a game day experience, with a big home field advantage. Can't wait to visit.
Thanks. Unique is great for a 100+ old sports site. Don't know, but all 200 level seats have something that possibly blocks, mostly high up in 200s. Adjacent "Homeplate" sections do have blocked viewing, but those seats are not for sale. And the press box blocks nothing even in the highest seat, you just don't see the Portland skyline.
Oh, now there IS a beer garden again? As long as they don't route the entrance to the concourse through 122 like last year.... 110x70 was the exact dimension of KC's CommunityAmerica Park, for reference.
Yeah, because whining about it will make pinch of shit's worth of difference and everything. What do you want, one of the corner flags in the second row?
Since it is being shared with PSU, how often are we going to see hideous gridiron lines on the field?
that'll be interesting for those late season football games when the rainy season starts. how weird would that be to have a football game during a rainstom and the lines disappear as you play?
I should clarify. The paint that they use is not in itself water-soluble, but the solution that they apply to the paint to remove it is. So, no worries about rain washing away the paint Edit: A video that shows this process. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...bers-with-portland-owner-merritt-paulson.html It is now a sub-19k stadium under this configuration. "Fan amenities" took a hit to the overall count.
Have you seen the add on the Top of the Oregonian, Shows several people with axes and chain saws, It says can't get in on April 14th, don't worry 18,627 people will be talking about it. Is that the new capacity?
Is there a PGE Park webcam somewhere or a page with recent pictures for a guy looking to get his stadium porn fix? I've been fapping it to Kansas City's stadium construction cam and I need something else to tide me over until real games are being played.

Hallo guys.I have to admit I dont have infos about your stadium. So,I have the following question: how close are stands to the field? In meters, please. ps I see now on the webcam. What about the south and north end of the stadium?
Distances from the stands to the end lines/touch lines are approximately 10 meters in the North, East and South Ends and 14 meters on the West End.
