its not a step anywhere. the likes of this guy and branko, 2nd rate reject coaches, are the best coaches we are ever going to get.
Carlos Queiroz would be the best coach in Iranian history. A former Real Madrid/Portugal/Man U assistant is hardly a second rate coach. He has has success in almost every team he has managed.
Carlos Queiroz is certainly not a 2nd rate coach. In fact, on paper at least, he is arguably the very best coach anyone including Iran could hire to lead its youth teams. After all, Queiroz is highly regarded for his role in discovering Portugal's "Golden Generation" (e.g., Luis Figo, Rui Costa etc) and leading Portugal's successful youth teams in the early 1990s. His expertise in this area also made Queiroz the person that the USSF looked to draw up their plans for Project 2010 - the project for the US to win the 2010 World Cup. Although the US obviously did not achieve that objective, the Q-Report (authored by Queiroz and named after him) served as a blue print for the development of football in the US. Additionally, as an assistant coach at Old Trafford, Queiroz was entrusted by Ferguson a major role in devising Manchester United's tactics and player selections. Indeed, that was reportedly the main reason Roy Keane left Man U, as Keane was critical of Queiroz's tactics and the extent of authority entrusted to him by Ferguson. Hence, it would not be unfair if some credit was given to Queiroz for Man U's success during Queiroz's two stints as an assistant coach at Old Trafford, even if the main credit for Man U's success would still need to be reserved for Ferguson. All that said, Queiroz record is undoubtedly not without its major blemishes. He did fail rather badly with Real, taking charge of then Spanish champions and leading them to a disappointing 4th place in La Liga. Nor was Quieroz's record with Portugal senior national team all that great: his first stint as Portugal's senior national team coach, where Portugal failed to qualify for Euro 92 or World Cup 94, was clearly not successful. His subsequent stint as Portugal's head coach saw them qualify for World Cup 2010, although doing so with less authority and fewer goals than might have been expected from a team which boasted FIFA player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo on its squad. In World Cup 2010, Portugal under Quieroz made the Round of 16 but lost to eventual champions Spain. Queiroz was later dismissed from Portugal's national team after Portugal poor start in Euro 2012 qualifiers, where Portugal drew Cyprus 4:4 at home and lost 1:0 to Norway away. (Portugal bounced back with a 3:1 win over Denmark and a 3:1 win over Iceland after Queiroz was fired). So what does this all mean for Iran? It means to me that we certainly got a world famous coach (if Queiroz actually signs up with Iran), but that there is absolutely no guarantee that Queiroz would do better for Iran than the coaches who have preceded him. That really is just how it is.
Some people are just not cut out for the head job. He might be a brilliant #2 but so far, and he's had his chances, his stint as a head coach haven't turned out too great as you illustrate above.
Spot on, mate. His biggest flaw as a head coach is simply his inability to motivate his players, which was a huge problem at both Real Madrid and Portugal. If you watches his players out there, it truly looked like they were sleep-walking on the pitch. Also, he's a poor tactical manager who is terrible at making adjustments during matches.
saudis hijacked him with oil money... but oh well, as i said just because he managed good teams does not mean he managed them well. and he will collect his fat pay cheque until saudis next embarrassing 5-0/8-0.
That's messed up. I guess it'll add fuel to the fire in your rivalry. I didn't even hear the Saudi's had him in their crosshairs.
That's it I'm done with Iranian football. All that I have to say is F*** the IFF. How many more times are they going to put up a show for us only to end up hiring Mayeli Kohan or some other clown inside Iran. There's no hope for our football until this corrupt government is gone, screw this I'm not going to watch Team Melli get embarrassed any more and that's exactly what's going to happen. These mother f***ers are making a fool out of us.
took you till 2011 to throw in the towel? lol. i did long time ago. but i still follow for fun, and its always fun beating teams such as korea and coming on here.
Now that it's coming back to life here I feel like I've found a second home. Most folks are cool here, most.
It's official, Queiroz finally signed with Iran for the next 3.5 years. We actually have something to look forward to from now on.
He seems to have had some problems with the IFF on certain issues but they've finally come to an agreement. I don't mind the delay, there was nothing going on anyway so we didn't miss much, if CQ is happy and satisfied he'll work better anyway. This is definitely a whole new chapter in the history of Iranian football, I'm definitely excited.
