It’s that time of the year to start tracking the “Last All Rocks ‘Plus’” Team Standing in Fantasy PremierLeague’s 2010-2011 Fantasy Cup competition.

As drafted teams, All Rocks teams are at a disadvantage in the Fantasy Cup competition run by FPL. Notwithstanding the disadvantage, this thread will track weekly All Rocks teams' progress in the Fantasy Cup until we determine the Last Rock ‘Plus’ Team standing.

Remember, points lost from excess transfers are deducted from you weekly GW score for the Fantasy Cup’s head-to-head knockout match.

Recapping the top three Last All Rocks Teams Standing from 2008-2009 Fantasy Cup:

In Off The Post was our last All Rocks Team standing and made it to the 6th round.
Cold Dog Soup bowed out in the 5th round.
Aviators bowed out in the 4th round.

Recapping the top four from the 2009-2010 FPL Fantasy Cup:

Last All Rocks Team Standing: Bettermirror FC, managed by Kurt T. who bowed out in the 5th round with 131072 teams remaining.
Tie for 2th-4th last with teams ranked in order of less severe loss:
Kopite Juniors (13 pt. loss in Round 4)
LSG Cambridge (14 pt. loss in Round 4)
Lee's Summit Rangers (38 point loss in Round 4)
There should be an asterisk for Round 4 as this was the round most of the games cancelled for weather.

In handicapping the weekly matches, I put the total season’s point totals to date and show them in parens behind the team name. You can compare the season score in parens to see who was favored in the match.

    Qualifying
Gameweek 17 (11 Dec) is a qualifying round. The top 2,097,152 scorers in Gameweek 17 will enter the first round in Gameweek 18 (18 Dec).

Results for the 2010-2011 FPL Fantasy Cup for “All Rocks ‘Plus’” Teams:

Only 1 of 40 All Rocks “Plus” Drafted Teams failed to qualify for the 2010_2011 FPL Fantasy Cup:

This leaves 6 All Rocks “Plus” Drafted Teams that won in Round 3 and are still in the competition to be the Last All Rocks “Plus” Drafted Team Standing in the 2010_2011 FPL Fantasy Cup: Note that none of the Splinter League or Dust League teams are still left. Small Rocks League has four teams still alive while Very Small Rocks and Sand Leagues each have one team still alive in the competition.

2 of the 6 Wins by All Rocks drafted teams were "Upsets" of higher ranked teams.

3 of these teams were among the last 3 - 4 All Rocks Drafted Teams standing in one of two preceding FPL Fantasy Cups.
ColdDogSoup is still on track to possibly better his Round 5 exit two year's ago and, with wins in Round 4, Aviators and LSG NW3 will exceed their previous best forays into this competition. All six teams are still chasing the Last All Rocks Drafted Team Standing record of getting to Round 6 in the FPL Fantasy Cup set by In Off The Post in the 2008_2009 Fantasy Cup.

    thanks for this summary, Hal

i'm enjoying this Cup run, and can't believe i've made it to the final 131,072......

congrats to the rest of you still alive, and good luck this next round. hard to believe we still have 5 teams still in it given the disadvantage of a drafted league -- that's 5 teams only 1 victory away from tying the all-rocks record and reaching the final 65,356. curious to see the pairings once they're out (presumably in the morning UK time). anything can happen, and no matter how the draw shakes out, i'm personally liking the fact that i get to send out Lampard as he is only owned by 6% of the teams and may well not be owned by my opponent.

while the last couple of weeks have been more respectable for my dawgs, i'm laughing a little at my good fortune at making it this far given some of my poor performances during December.

first, i was quite fortunate to get in. a finish in the top 2,097,152 (out of 2,357,375) during gw17 was required in order to make the field for gw18. my 15 points were good enough to make the cut as #2,065,436. i have to believe i made the cut by a single point.

then, i drew an opponent during gw18 who has a "dead" team. having not made any transfers since he set up his team in gw11, he only managed to field 2 players for the snow week.

then, i followed up my poor gw17 performance with a "dazzling" 23 points in gw19, good enough to place 2,167,542 overall that week. this wouldn't have even made the original cut, but it was good enough to edge my unlucky opponent by 1 point during the week when he had the misfortune of getting -2 from Defoe.

as someone commented at the poker table last week, i'd rather be lucky than good.

The draw is up and here are the opponents........

LSG gets a reasonable draw -- opponent has a team value of only 98.6, with an owner who has appeared to have abandoned the team with Fabregas on the bench and Mame Diouf as captain. Of course, autosub could end up bringing fabulous Fabregas in and this is one of the few Cup opponents for our group with Liverpool coverage for this important gameweek. Also, despite my initial reaction, Diouf has scored in 2 of the last 5 weeks, so maybe it's an inspired selection......
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=2165786

Hal also appears to get a team that isn't being actively managed. A team value of 101.2 isn't off the charts, but Hal can't be happy to see Fabregas as captain to counter Aviator's likely selection. On the plus side, it looks like Hal's opponent will only field 9 players this week at the most.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=2264921

Interestingly, both of these teams are carrying 3 defensive players from Chelsea, so a Wolves goal would be very, very helpful.

Lobo also appears to have drawn an inactive team, with its last trade being made in gw11. But plenty of fire power there with familiar names like Hart, A. Cole, Bale, Malouda, Berbatov, captain Drogba, and Elmander. It's difficult to evaluate team rankings when teams don't start in gw1, but edge Cold Dog Soup given the impressive season that Lobo is having.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=2043540

Zhirkov 1 more time draws a US-based Tottenham fan, so will face the duo of Van der Vaart and Bale against Tim Howard. Someone will get points, but who? This is a respectable looking opponent, with names like Vidic, Brunt, Dempsey, Tevez, and K. Davies, and with Cahill departing for the Asia Cup, it may inadvertently bring in a Blackpool defender for a double gameweek if a transfer isn't made in the morning.
    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=1762295

Which I think leaves me with the toughest draw of all. He's got a team value of 105.7, with names like Hart, Vidic, Ivanovic, Nasri, Nani, Kuyt, Van der Vaart, and Drogba. With an overall ranking of roughly 260,000, about the only good news is that he's already made two trades and taken a 4 point hit. But, hey, I just need Lampard to go off on Wolves while wearing the captain's armband. Anything can happen, right?

    Round 5 Match Ups

Tough to evaluate teams that join after GW1, which is the case for all but one of the opponents for the remaining All Rocks "Plus" Drafted Team Standing in this year's FPL Fantasy Cup.

On season totals along, and adjusting for missing game weeks, we have two favorites, 2 underdogs, and one toss-up. I'm calling the Zhirkov match the toss-up with blech and Aviators as the underdogs. Imagine scoring 448 points in 10 GW - that's an average of 44.8. If you did that the entire season, you'd be competitive for the overall title.

I refer you to the preceding blech's post on some of the player match-ups.

Not to nitpick Hal, but our leaders - ColdDog and LSG - are sailing along at over 50 points per week! 44.8 would come in just outside the top 10 in the All Rocks League. I've indicated players with two games this gameweek with an "*", and have also included the points from today's games (or at least tried to do so).

    ROUND 5 MATCHES

    **************************

    MATCH 1
    ColdDogSoup FC
    Gordon
    Baines - Hughes(6) - Ivanovic
    Fabregas - Bale - Parker - AYoung
    Drogba(c) - Wellbeck - Carroll(out)
    Bench: Begovic, Gamst, Bosingwa, Coleman

    vs

    McGann is Gay United
    Hart
    Hangeland(12) - Williamson - ACole
    Scholes(dnp) - Bale - Nolan - Malouda
    Berbatov(2) - Drogba(c) - Elmander
    Bench: Jaaskelainen, Richards, Gardner(2), Knight

Both sides send out Bale and captain Drogba, and both have a piece of the Chelsea and Fulham defense (BUT CDS has the non-scoring piece). No players with multiple games in this pairing. Key matchups would appear to be Fabregas for CDS against Malouda and Wellbeck for CDS against Elmander. Nicely for CDS, a Fabregas goal will also bust the the Hart clean sheet, so the potential for double damage (or double disaster should, for example, a PK be saved  ). Scholes didn't play today, but there should be nominal points to come in from the bench. Having fallen behind on Day One due to the Hangeland goal, CDS has some ground to make up....

    **************************

    MATCH 2
    LSG NW3
    Krul
    Vidic - Skrtel* - Cathcart(1+)*
Malouda - Taylor - Van der Vaart - Nasri
    Varney(2*2+)(*c) - Berbatov(2) - Van Persie
    Bench: Hart, Bardsley, Dann, Cahill(out)

    vs

    Beaverfield United
    Hahnemann(out)
    A Cole - Terry - Ferreira - Toure
    Barton - Etherington - Gerrard* - Henderson
    M Diouf(c) - Fletcher
    Bench: Schwarzer(out), GJohnson*, Fabregas, Zamora(out)

Edge to LSG in doublers (3-1, with LSG handing the armband to one of his but Beaverfield likely picking up another from the bench). No similar players between the two squads. Beavfield is relying heavily on the auto-sub to get in a couple of his pricier players, with a chance that Ferreira will yield his spot to Bosingwa and the always exciting watch to come as to whether or not Fletcher gets a late cameo appearance. Nothing of note from Day One. If Fabregas doesn't get on, huge edge to LSG with a balanced attack, while Beaverfield will basically be hoping for a monster week from Gerrard or captain Diouf.

    **************************

    MATCH 3
    Zhirkov 1 More Time
    Al-Habsi
    Konchesky* - Clichy - Hutton(doubt)
    Lampard - Modric - Henderson - Essien - Park
    Bent(c) - Carroll(out)
    Bench: Foster(5), Jagielka, Berbatov(2), Bosingwa

    vs

    luger
    Foster(5)
    Toure - Elmohamady - Vidic
    Bale - Van der Vaart(c) - Brunt(2) - Cahill(out)
    Tevez - K Davies - Carroll(out)
    Bench: Howard, Dempsey(9), Hughes(6), Cathcart(1+)*

Apparently more of a Tottenham fan than a USA fan, luger opts for Foster in goal and moves Howard to the bench (and will certainly be happy with today's 5 points, while Z1MT prefers Al-Habsi to Foster and may regret that decision). The only common player between the two teams is Carroll, who is injured and won't play. So this one will have completely different 11s squaring off. Z1MT has a 1-0 edge in doublers in the starting lineup, but luger might still get a doubler if Cathcart come on from the 3rd sub position with two (SCORING) subs already certain to come on. After Day One, and taking into account the autosubs, Z1MT faces a huge uphill battle. Will the decision to captain Bent over Lampard pay off?

    **************************

    MATCH 4
    blechs dawgs
    Jaaskelainen
    Coleman - G.Johnson* - Kolarov - Enrique
    Bale - Rodriguez* - Lampard (c) - Cleverley
    Campbell(6+)* - Torres*
    Bench: Gordon, Boateng, Balotelli, N'Zogbia

    vs

BERGE UNITED 4 point hit !!!
    Jaaskelainen
    Coleman - Vidic(2) - Ivanovic
    Nasri - Kuyt* - Adam(4*2+)(*c) - Van der Vaart - Gamst
    Berbatov(2) - Drogba
    Bench: Hart, Kyrgiakos, Bardsley, Piquionne

I came so close to sending out Balotelli and getting in Chicharito when it was announced Rooney wouldn't play but I didn't want to take the 4-point hit. As it stands, I believe I was the only team that started the day with a lead as Berge took a 4-pointer. Had I snagged Chicharito, it would have pushed Coleman to the bench (where he may end up anyway if the yellow box is accurate). Ugh! The only common players are Jussi and Coleman. I have an edge of 4-2 on doublers so a couple extra games potentially, as well as the 4-point head start due to the extra hit that he paid to get in the Berbatov-Adam combo. After Day One, I'm thankful to have survived the first onslaught but there is still a lot of firepower coming and it will likely require decent performances from Frank and Fernando to survive.

    **************************

    MATCH 5
    Aviators
    Cech
    Hangeland(12) - Nelsen - Distin
    Fabregas(c) - Phillips(2+)* - Yaya Toure - Parker
    Taylor-Fletcher(5+)* - Odemwingie(1) - Gyan
    Bench: Robinson, Silva, Zabaleta, Clichy

    vs

    ssshhh
    Cech
    A Cole - Ferdinand(dnp) - Terry
    Nasri - Walcott - Fabregas(c) - Cahill(out) - Nolan
    Carroll(out) - K Davies
    Bench: Allsop, Mustoe, Jiranek, Wood

Cech and Fabregas(c) are the commonly owned players, and Hal carries a 2-0 advantage in terms of doublers. ssshhh's bench has 1 point in total for the season, so there isn't likely to be anyone to come in for the departed Cahill or the injured Carroll, potentially leaving Hal with an extra 4 games. With ssshhh's defense carrying 3 Chelsea players and 3 Arsenal players in the midfield, ssshhh probably wins or loses based on how those two games end up (a reasonable bet on the Chelsea defense against Wolves while a less clear gamble on Arsenal against City). This one looked much closer to me than Hal suggested before it started, and Hal's taken a nice lead after Day One, which sees ssshhh lose another player in Ferdinand.

ROUND 5 MATCHES Update with 1 game to go Blackpool home to Liverpool.

All Rocks "Plus" Drafted Teams will have at least one team, Aviators, advance to Round 6.

2 All Rocks "Plus" Drafted Teams, ColdDogSoup FC and Zhirkov 1 More Time, will exit the 2010-2011 FPL Fantasy Cup competition in Round 5.

1 All Rock "Plus" Drafted Team, LSG NW3, can possibly overtake his opponent's lead to advance to Round 6 IF, and only IF Captain Varney has a great day.

1 All Rocks "Plus" Drafted Team, blech, is embroiled in a toss-up and still has a chance to join Aviators in Round 6.

MATCH 1 Neither team has any players left to play in the Blackpool vs Liverpool game. As they stand now, ColdDogSoup will exit the FPL 2010-2011 Fantasy Cup after Round 5 with a 38 to 52 loss to McGann is Gay United.

ColdDogSoup FC 33 plus 5 points expected from sub Gamst Pedersen to finish GW with 38.

MATCH 2 Adjusting for subs, LSG NW3 trails Beaverfield United 33 to 39 with scores from the Blackpool vs Liverpool game still to come. LSG needs Captain Varney to have a big game if he expects to overtake Beaverfield United.

LSG NW3 26 points plus 7 sub points expected from Hart and scores from the second game for Skrtel, Cathcart, and Captain Varney. Sadly, Bardsley's 13 points will stay on the bench.

Put a fork in Zhirkov 1 More Time as he exits with a Round 5 loss to luger. He trails 24 to 55 with only Konchesky to play, so unless the K-man scores 31 points in the Blackpool game, this match is done and dusted.

    MATCH 5

Looks good for Aviators with 40 points in the bank and still have the second games from Phillips and Taylor-Fletcher to go while ssshhh is finished with a GW score of 33. So, unless Phillips and Taylor-Fletcher end up with -7 (down to tiebreak) or -8 (loss) from the remaining game, Aviators are clear favorites to advance to Round 6.

Not sure LSG is relying so heavily as that on Varney alone... six points down with 3 players still to play, anything could happen.

Of course, if I do go out, it'll be the 21 points and 2 goals sitting useless on the bench that will cause the most chagrin.

How twisted is this season that I have 3 Liverpool players to play including "superstar" Torres but remain the underdog against some guy named Adam from some team named Blackpool???

Sorry, just needed to vent. Anyone think Liverpool can sort things out in the next week?

Aviators had the win locked up already, while the two games in play end in a draw. If I understand the tiebreaker rules, my dawgs are celebrating while LSG is left cursing the points left on the bench and the dead team's successful captaining of Mame Diouf.

As of this morning I still had no idea who won my tie: we're both on 40 points, and I think we both had one goal. Which would make the tiebreak the goals conceded. Hate to think that dead team gets rewarded for not having an active keeper, but I suspect I go out on the second tiebreak. At least it wasn't the "virtual coin toss."

We have the Last All Rocks 'Plus' drafted team standing. Out of 5 matches, only my Aviators managed to win.

LSG came very close to joining me in Round 6, but lost on the second tiebreak of least goals scored.

With the win, Aviators has tied the All Rocks record of furthest progression into the annual FPL Fantasy Cup competition set by In Off The Post two years ago.

That's interesting - somewhat ambiguous, but apparently on the tiebreaker of goals scored, it includes goals scored by players on the bench, as he had you 3 to 1 with the starters but you made it 3 to 3 when your bench players are included. That's the only way I can figure how they get to the second tiebreaker.

It's additionally interesting, as it reduces my ire over this overnight removal of Charlie Adam's yellow card, which took me from a 51 to 51 tie when I went to bed to a 51 to 53 loss since my opponent had Adam as captain. I thought the TV feed got it wrong at the time when they showed Taylor-Fletcher getting the card since Adam was the one who took down Meireles on the counter. The yellow was clearly for the tactical foul in breaking up the play. By the time the ref got out the card, Taylor-Fletcher was standing directly in between the ref and Adam, who was some 15 yards away going to the ground injured. I understand where the confusion came from, but I can't believe the yellow was for dissent. But maybe it was dissent? Or maybe they were just frustrated that they could only give Adam 3 bonus points so they figured out that this would work as a substitute? ;)

But, if the tie breakers include scoring on the bench, it wouldn't have mattered for me. I led on goals scored 4 to 3 from the 11 who played so thought I would win the tiebreaker, but it was 4 to 4 if the bench is included, and then he beats me 20 to 19 on goals conceded including bench players as my 3 Liverpool players conceded 13 goals between them. In the end, nowhere to look for blame except for the gaffer, as captaining Torres with two games (and a goal) instead of Lampard with only one would have made the difference.

Mind you, if they would have given DJ Campbell 3 (or even 1) bonus points for scoring the gamewinner and reduced Adam to 2 bonus points..... but let's not get crazy.

    Rant over.

In any event, props to Hal for moving on, and looks like there is half a chance with the draw already out - some strong players on his opponent, but it's not a monster team by any stretch and again it appears to be a team that is not active with no moves being made since gw14. From the bottom of Small :( to the top of FPL :) Onward and upward Aviators!

Aviators with a 25 point lead. Both teams have Gyan. If Gyan doesn't play, Aviators will have Distin while Red and Black Army will have Ridgewell.

Assuming Gyan plays, his points cancel out and Red and Black Army needs Bale (C), Van der Vaart, Carroll, and Hutton to score 26 more points than Aviators' Defoe.

If Carroll doesn't play, Red and Black Army gets to use Ridgewell, unless substituted for Gyan, and Gutierrez..

Bale was kept pretty quiet by Rafael last time he vs. Man U, so I think you can feel pretty optimistic. Nice job Hal!

Aviators is a huge underdog. Aviators' (842) Round 7 Match is against Cowboys FC (1035). We spot Cowboys almost a 200 point season total difference and our 1,798,362 ranking is almost 3 times worse than Cowboys FC's 669,908 ranking.

GW23 teams are posted below and both teams have made one transfer this week.

Both teams made one transfer for GW24.

Aviators picked up Fulham's Davies for his double game and made him Captain only to have Davies not play in either Fulham game. The captaincy sub went to Fabregas for an 8 point pick-up.

Cowboys FC's transfer this week was to pick up Arsenal's Van Persie who only scored 15 points.

Even with the great disparity in the transfer this week in favor of Cowboys FC, the teams managed to tie at 56 points for the week.

Here's where Cowboys pick-up of Van Persie also was determinant in the tiebreaker as Cowboys FC advances to Round 8 (16734 teams left) based on most goals scored.

It didn't have to get down to the tiebreaker, if I'd gotten more than 2 points from my two subs.
