I thought I would create a new post to follow this (although I will probably be the only one to care about it!). There have been some pretty interesting news about how Wilstermann will participate in Copa Libertadores.

Here is what I know so far:
    • The will play directly in the groups phase, so they have at least six guaranteed games.
    • They are in the same group as Internacional (Brazil), Emelec (Ecuador) and the winner of the key formed by Jaguares (Mexico) and Alianza Lima (Peru)
    • A group of argentinian investors has already agreed to put a team together, made of proven players who have european experience but missed team signing deadlines. The strategy is to showcase them in the Copa, and then sell them to other teams.
    • The group will also hire and pay for a coach.
    • A logistics team is already in Cochabamba looking for housing acommodations for the entire argentinian contingency (players, coaching staff and marketing folks). They estimate about 14-16 people.
    • The suits at the FBF have already confirmed (as of yesterday), that Wilstermann can have more than 6 foreign players for this purpose. The investment group wants 8 or 10, with the rest coming from the existing local team.
All in all, it looks like something could happen to make some news. Stay tuned!:D

None. Only Edgar Davids about three weeks ago, and I'm not buying that one.

We have 2 young players that more or less still belong to the team because of 'development rights' but it sounds like they are gonna loan/sell them too. We need some experienced players to add in with the Argentines.

Confusing time to be a Wilster fan huh? Kinda gotta suck when you don't even know who your players are going to be.

Talk about bad moral for existing players and coaches. THis really has to suck for them. I don't see them getting past 2nd division with this kind of lynching, or treatment of second rate players.

So what happends if they make it to the second or third round? Worse yet, what if they win the Copa? I doubt these players will stay around until next January to play in the FIFA World Cup.

These investors just made a name for themselves though. TO pull this off (if it actually happens), will bring them MANY clients.

Will these dude be playing in league games? I would have liked to have seen these dudes playing in the first division against strong teams like..... The Strongest.

No, there will be 2 teams, one for the 2nd division and one for the Copa. It will be all these Argentines + some youngsters for filler.

I almost wish we could just sell the slot to another Bolivian team and concentrate on getting back to the league. We are guaranteed a slot in the Simon Bolivar tournament, so maybe they will bring in some 1st division players to help us win that tournament..

Is the Argie side allowed to play in the Domestic 2nd tier league? It would be ideal for them to play some games to get things cordinated. I have a gut feeling regardless of the allstars in this team, the Argies aren't going to play any better then the actual Wilster players. They're really not going to have much or any time to gell.

Re: Wilstermann in Copa Libertadores 2010

I don't know about confusing, but they sure are trying times. What happened to Wilster should be a reminder of what could happen to any other big team in Bolivia. Poor management and the new percentile rating killed them even before they won the Championship at the beginning of the year.

I don't think it would bother me in the least if we went far in Copa Libertadores with an "argentinized" team, though. We would not be the first ones, as the Mexicans have consistently brought in foreign "refuerzos" for this competition, plus I would not mind seeing the Dutch beast wearing red.

I think the plan is for the A team to play both Copa and league games to stay in shape, so long as they continue to advance in the Libertadores, and they comply with the foreign player limit in the local league. You may see them playing Cholivar, The Strongays, Real Ortosi, Oriente Putolero, etc.

    Fun times!

    It's too late.

This team is going to get blown out of the tourney, easily. Unless these players have been practicing together all this time, I don't see anything happening. Gut feeling says this team will be very individualistic with their play.

Very Stupid plan at this point. Would have worked out nicely if timing was better.

    Poor Wilster fans.

I don't think it is late at all. The first game isn't until February 16, which would give them a good month to get ready.
I am more concerned with the caliber of the coach and players they may be bringing. Los Tiempos listed some names today, and they are for the most part nobodies. Some played for Miami FC, which is a third tier league in the US, with terrible talent level. See excert below:

Poor Wilster fans??? Brother, I am proud of my team in good times AND in bad times. Don't feel bad for me. I don't.:D

    Here is the article: http://www.lostiempos.com/diario/ac...gen-a-empresario-argentino_107975_211725.html

I have no idea who is Brian Siver (MLS), but Tyson Nuñez, maybe? (who is also 38 years old).

edit: I love the butchering of names, most likely it is this dude:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Shriver (A-league)

The coach is not even the head coach for Miami FC..

The problem is that the first two games are on the road, what will happen when we are mathematically eliminated from the tournament sooner rather than later?

I am more worried about the coach. I know Marcelo Neveleff (I actually played with him in a over 30 league). As far as I know he is the current Boys soccer coach here in Weston, a suburb of Miami. A far cry from south america. I bet the worst and cheapest bolivian coach has a better curriculum than this guy.

    EL OH EL

Damn Marco that is hilarious and sad at the same time. These types of indignities are to be expected though when a club has mismanaged itself so long and are dead broke.

How could they possibly spin this? It's a bunch of guys who play in Miami FC and guys no ones heard of, and a coach who got pulled off of the US development academy club program.

Jaja I wonder what the discussions between the "investors" and Wilstermann were like. What kind of pie in the sky bullshit did they sell them.

    This is insane.

    *grabs popcorn*

    Typical bolivian move:

    1. Lopez (Wilstermann's president) signs rights to Libertadores to Traffic (new "investor").
    2. Traffic puts a team from cheap sources they control (Miami FC is owned by them).
    3. Traffic makes money from TV rights and Libertadores guaranteed purse, NOT from selling players no one else wants.
    4. Lopez takes his cut for agreeing to the deal.
    5. Wilster gets F*cked once more.
There was a real investor group lined up. I guess they did not meet Lopez' monetary expectations.
Remember Christian Gomez, the argentinian 10 who played for DC United? He plays for Miami FC along with Brian Shriver (not Silver as noted in the article).

    .....and the plot thickens

I've heard of Traffic, they don't have the best reputation over on the yanks boards:D I know they signed a bunch of the yanks younger talents and haven't been able to place them in great situations yet.

Maybe they'll send some of those guys to Wilster. I think the yanks' heads would explode though LOL

Traffic just sounds like a real shady outfit all around. End result will be a lot of unhappy players, unhappy fans, and Wilster left to clean up the mess after this monstrosity experiment is over.

Basically all the players Traffic owns and promised the world to and couldn't place in good situations or nobody wanted are now the new "refuerzos" for Wilster. SMH

Interesting... Traffic huh? Yea they got a bad rap for all the players they've sent to portugal and havent panned out...

Wilster' are getting HOSED Hahahhahahaha. Poor guys though, I feel for you all. Just more reason to add to the Trister'man name. :(

WIth that said, this team is going to get eaten alive IMO. Christian Gomez would possibly help, Tyson Nunez was still damn good in 2009 for marathon of Honduras.... but that was almost 2 years ago.

Beyond that Wilsterami' FC is crap!
