Racist violence threatens Russia's World Cup plans http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2039519,00.html
The Russian government seems to be blaming migrants and political opponents for the troubles rather than dealing with the problem. They also seems to be willing limit civil liberties and freedom of movement in order to be able to say they have no problem with racism and anti-semitism. http://www.cultureclashdaily.com/page1111326.php
Russia has a problem with racism, there´s no doubt about that. and it´s not just hooligans. but if you´d be a bit less picky with your news stories, you´d know that the Russian police and courts have been very harsh towards skinheads, long before the WC was on. so I´m sure they´ll sort that, Russian style.
In the wake of the latest terrorist attack in Moscow doubts have been expressed over Russia's ability to provide security at major events. Especially 2014 Winter Olys and 2018 WC. I worry about the security of the Olympics and World Cup now. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/01/25/witnesses-hear-russian-airport-suicide-bomber-yell-ill-kill/#
My word, your going to be worrying for the next 7 years? Of course things will be stepped up. You can't worry yourself everyday of your life my friend, if you do, i suggest you turn off you TV, shut down the internet connection and live life in a little box.

Russia's Zenit St. Petersburg fined http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ne...team-zenit-st-petersburg-fined-fan-racist-act
Here is an interesting quote by a leading figure in one of Zenit's fan club called the "Ultras" who also happens to be an employee of the club. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12848838
It sure looks like Russia 2018 will be an interesting World Cup considering that it will be in Eastern Europe, and Russia looks like they have the infrastructure to make it happen
Russia 2018 pledges to fight racism after banana thrown at Roberto Carlos http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jun/24/russia-2018-banana-roberto-carlos
IMO the Russians are at least as crooked as the Qataries. No doubt they bribed their way to 2018. Seems pretty easy to do these days with fifa.
Russia 2018 World Cup bid to be investigated reveals Fifa president Sepp Blatter http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3526...world-cup-bid-to-be-investigated-reveals-fifa
I come into this thread looking for info about the 2018 World Cup and read this nonsense about fanaticism from a club level. I mean I understand racism is wrong and all but the stories in here have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand... ...the WORLD CUP. Also, I have read nothing about racial fanaticism during National team matches. Until then I dont care what club teams do. It is unrelated. I think it is safe to say the Russian National team supporters are not as crazy nor stupid.
So is this how this thread is going to linger on? A quarterly news story bump because of some incident? Tell me now so I can put it out of its misery.
Jesse Jackson: Racism scrutiny on WCup host Russia http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-501623_162-57401892/jesse-jackson-racism-scrutiny-on-wcup-host-russia/
Racism in Germany is not a bigger problem as in most other countries whereas in Russia it's killing fields for poor foreigners in some areas. It's a problem, no doubt.
I often wonder why did Samuel Eto'o go to play in Russia when he was always one of the more outspoken players to bring attention to racism in Spain? It's not like he couldn't have drawn a large paycheck from some other club in the world.
It'd be nice if that's all it was, some disguised unfortunately club fanaticism spilling out in unfortunate ways. Unfortunately it's not.
Does it? Nahh, nothing else happens in the summer, thats why people get behind their nation. During the league season, it doesn't translate.
A little early but I like to ask what should be and what gonna be the spot distribution of the others 31 spots between continentals federations? and see how things and thinks change in the next years. The distribution by confederation for the 2014 World Cup will be:[5] Europe (UEFA): 13 places Africa (CAF): 5 places Asia (AFC): 4 or 5 places South America (CONMEBOL) 4 or 5 places (+ Brazil qualified automatically as host nation for a total of 5 or 6 places) North, Central American and Caribbean (CONCACAF): 3 or 4 places Oceania (OFC): 0 or 1 place more data in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_qualification
I don't think much will change. Obviously the 5 or 6 places for the CONMEBOL will change. Europe will probably have 14 places in the tournament.
