I haven't seen this many upset gringos since OJ was found not guilty. Just gotta enjoy the world cup on TV.

I don't know if i'll still be a bigsoccer member in 2022... maybe by then i'll stop getting repped with comments starting with "facking noob..."

anyways, I'm willing to bet that before 2022, Qatar will be denied hosting the World Cup and it will be given to Australia or some other deserving country.

That country's infrastructure/economy will crumble within the next 5 years. Building 6 giant stadiums in a country the size of a small U.S state... won't help.

An hour driving distance between each giant stadium.

Good thing the WC didn't come to Australia...one only hears football news these past days, its back to 100% "footy", cricket and rugby now.

I rather see the WC go to a true footballing nation but that doesn't always happen...

Finally an American being reflexive. I remember about 30 minutes after the announcement I went on CNN and found this:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/grant_wahl/12/02/3thoughts.wcbid/index.html

Americans getting pist is the only thing I'm enjoying about this, btw. If FIFA was truly democratic they'd give bids to mid-income countries, not just rich ones.

As it stands now, no South American country can dream of hosting it in 2026 and beyond. Chile and Argentina would have to team up and do miracles to even be considered. Peru? No fukin way

Well how many American ESPN writers are football savvy AND unbiased?

brb starting a smear campaign on Qatar so they can get it taken away from them.

Hey, if the arguments are compelling, I'll agree with them no matter where they come from and who writes them.

They can even come from the business section of a New Jersey paper. :D

Yea, that was horrible when he said "independiente de America" . I cringed. He literally went for 2 minutes just saying how great Independiente was, after beating a 2nd Division bound Brasilian team in PK's.

Then again, Argie and Brazuca teams get direct access to the Round of 16 while the "lower" teams have to knock each other out in the early stages of the Copa.

Didn't Goias also get relegated to the 2nd div in Brasil?
