the guy who was commentating yesterday's juventus vs. catania game??

i HATE THIS GUY...how is he even a commentator?? he has got to be the worst ever...no emotions, low voice that u can barely hear, just absolutely dreadful...he makes the games boring even if they're exciting

sometimes he's paired up with Paul Visca but sometimes he's alone...WTF? this is why some people say italian game is boring but its really the stupid commentator. Paul Visca is much better but when they're paired up, this guy talks more than Paul. I loved it when it was just Paul visca commentating

they need to FIRE this guy cuz he's an insult to football commentating...no emotions, no excitement, even when they score goals he's so whatever about it.....GOL TV by far has the best commentators...i wish ray hudson and the other guy commentated on FSC too...now thats great commentating

Whitall is the one with the low voice that ends up screaming after a goal. And btw - they are not FSC guys, they provided by the service.

Whitall is awesome btw and his been missing for like a month now. I actually dread watching Serie A beacuse it IS boring (not the announcers fault) but enjoy Richard Whitall. Anyone know where he's been?

Richard Whittle was calling the Catania/Juventus game on Sunday. This was his first game back after he broke his leg. He was scheduled to do the Derby di Roma, but there were complications with getting into the stadium with the cast on.

If there's one thing I like about the Serie A guys, it's that they actually call the action from the stadium and they're not doing it off a TV somewhere.

I agree. Even the Premier League guys don't always call the game from the stadium (I believe Martin Tyler and Paul Walsh called Liverpool-Aston Villa off monitor on Monday).

I read an article on a Bundesliga guy doing coverage off of a 20 inch monitor or something like that and Sid Lowe tends to do 2-3 games a day for La Liga off monitor, nobody who watches any amount of La Liga games would believe he is actually at the stadium.

I don't really mind Richard Whittle, in fact I'd say I don't really like Paul Visca a whole lot. The other main Serie A commentators are all alright, but nothing great for sure.

There's a new interview on one of those Serie A sites with Visca that came out tonight.

My question, howerver, is about the name of the gentleman who does Bundesliga for Gol and ESPN3.

The guy sounds a bit like Toby Charles.

Alan Fountain has been one of the English-language voices of the Bundesliga for at least the past 12 years.

Toby Charles retired several years ago.

DFL Sports Enterprises (which operates the Bundesliga) now produces Bundesliga telecasts for international distribution.

Thanks guys. So yea i really wish they'd get better commentators for serie A games. This guy is one of the worst and everyone i watch it with says the same thing. When you watch italian or spanich commentating it makes the game alot more exciting...i used to love the EPL fan zones, i dont know why they took it away. Just the excitement of a real fan made it that much better.

its all about which teams and players you're a fan of. i love watching serie A because of my teams and when u watch your teams the game is never boring. Any game in any part of the world can be exciting with a nice flow but if ur not into the team, the result and the players then ur not gonna watch. Thats why i dont care to watch bundesliga and any other la liga match that barcelona and osasuna arent involved.

Now that you mention it I do remember hearing something about a broken leg on their podcast.

Man, those Serie A commentators are boring. They put me to sleep. I rather have the spanish guys + JP/Max Bretos doin the game. At least they keep me awake

Speaking of Max, anyone else missing him greatly on the Club World Cup? I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of his work but something about the Club World Cup made for a perfect setting for his commentating.

Also, who has a podcast, Richard Whitall? If so, I'm going to start listening despite any major interest in Serie A.

He and Paul Visca do a podcast called Coffee and Calcio. It used to be free, but now you have to pay for World Football Daily's podcasts (which blows, IMHO). If anyone knows how to listen to it for free, I'm all ears because it's actually a pretty good show.

I remember Alan Fountain being the voice of "Soccer Made In Germany" in the 80's with the same style of occasionally caustic commentary.

ya, he sounds like an "older" fellow.

This is sorta on topic, but who is the guy that does all the CL Highlights on foxsoccer.com? He is terrible and ruins the highlights. They should use the actual match commentators instead. Is there some sort of legal rights that they're not allowed to?

so here's another annoying thing about serie A on FSC....im not sure if this is the problem with any broadcast but the viewing frame is very retarded....alot of times the ball and the player with the ball are outside the frame  as if the camera man knows where the ball is gonna go and they're trying to be ahead of the play....Or when its a free kick, u cant see the guy running to take the freekick, the frame starts right where the ball is

    wtf?

Serie A match video is shot with the 16:9 aspect ratio.

If you are watching FSC in 4:3 standard definition, you are watching a cropped picture so some of the action has been cut off.

Watch FSC in HD if possible so that you get the entire frame.
