Lol it's not a conspiracy it's obvious that the draw was rigged to spread the influence of the CCL. Its good though, and not just because it plays to RSLs advantage.
This draw opens up a easier path to the finals, hopefully we take advantage. Columbus then Saparisso.
I'd rather it be Olimpia, though I do expect Saprissa to win that series. The other side should be really interesting. I honestly think we could end up seeing Cruz Azul again, how awesome would that be?
Just went downtown today and took pictures of the "Reign of RSL" banner lofted off the balcony of the Wells Fargo building and will be posting those on my website soon! Its the same banner as this:
Effort to delay soccer complex denied. I thought we were tracking this here. Sorry if I mis-remembered.
I really wish we could have had this complex built around the RioT. Having been to both the dick and the HDC, its rather cool to have that complex around the stadium...
Seems like the chances of getting that much land as close to Trax as Rio Tinto is would be pretty small. I know Sandy is far from the center of...well anything, but at least the stadium is accessible and isn't at the edge of town. Which would have probably been necessary to get enough land to put down a stadium and complex.
Sandy might not be the center of anything, it isn't too far from it. The complex will be extremely far from the center of anything. Sandy isn't a bad situation at all.
For all you Sandy haters out there... I am going to see a presentation in the next couple of weeks on the Sandy long-term commercial development plan. The guy they have doing the design/project work is a serious player in this arena nationally - I know him through some business contacts. Frankly, I'm amazed and impressed with what the macro plan for Sandy is - the economy has delayed some things originally planed (the bad news) but now the plans are even more robust and the people getting involved are fairly impressive. Salt Lake residents have to open their minds though a bit - sure, 20 years ago, Sandy was in the sticks relative to SLC but this is 10-12 min down a freeway corridor. That's closer to "downtown" than 80% of professional sports stadiums (not just MLS stadiums). You also have a tremendous amount of money on the South end of the Salt Lake valley and Sandy is an anchor for that with big plans for the next 10-20 years. Currently you have about 2 million people along the Wasatch Front and by 2020-2025 that will be 3 million ... by 2045-2050 it will be 5 million. If RSL can sell 80-85% of their tickets now, in a down economy, with roughly 2 million people ... it's not unreasonable to think that in 10 years RSL could support probably 25-26K people per game in Sandy - and that's if only currently popularity trends continued. I think if soccer/MLS continues to grow in popularity and SL continues to grow it's population - we might not be a "small market" forever... maybe a "medium" market in 10-15 years.
we are all worried about Sabo, but does anybody know the status of Gonzo and PJ? Those 2 (3 if Sabo cant start) could be our subs Saturday
Oh, I wasn't bashing Sandy. My point was that Sandy is a great location, and that we maybe couldn't have got a stadium in such a great place if it were coupled with a soccer complex (judging by the MLS stadiums that do have playing fields around them), because of the size requirements.
... I hear there is a big piece of dirt that could use some landscaping right in front of Rio Tinto Stadium. Could we add that to the comm'l development plan?
They should have a goat pasture out front in honor of Chivas...and fans could abuse the animals, or feed them garbage.
I get concerned hearing these population growth estimates. In order for the Wasatch front to handle this sort of capacity, we will have to de-suburbanize, which is antithetical to the Western way of life. Furthermore, we will have to invest in serious water conservation, water treatment, and water reuse projects. The front could handle maybe 3.5 million without too much disruption, meaning extraordinary conservation alone. However, much more than that will require hundreds of millions of dollars, tax dollars.
'And THAT'S the way it is. November 4, 2010.' WHen we won the bid for the Olympics this was very easy to predict.
I don't get it. What do you mean? Are you saying that my post was just a bunch of alertist nonsense or that the population growth was inevitable? Do you have any additional info?
the last 20 minutes of that game was unbelievable.... I almost forgot I was watching MLS - and the irony of Henry missing a wide open header..... What a great game.
It was captivating. One of the most exciting intervals of soccer I've ever watched. I m still wondering why DPNY took out Argula (the spelling might be wrong). He was the most exciting player on the pitch. I would have kept him in and substituted out another midfielder I think. Henry did everything right on that header, except put it on frame. The goalkeepers were playing out of their minds.
I just read that on mlssoccer.com. Nice little article touting Olave and Borchers (another finalist they point out) as possibly the best center back duo ever in the league. Well deserved.
