Game 1, battle of Alberta.... the hockey God's smiled over the Rex and gifted the Oiler fans a game one could of only dream of.

These kids can skate, damn. Calgary couldn't keep up with even our 4th liners and the fists were deadly even without a stick in our hands... Smackentyre might of landed the punch of the season. I'm on cloud 9 and only a Panther win and a non blow out for the Isles could make this any better.

MacIntyre vs. Ivanans - solid fight, MacIntyre laid him out

Just last week, these two threw with Smackintyre getting the edge but much respect to Ivanans who held his own and threw a few nice bombs.

Oilers will make the playoff's, if healthy, this team is straight up sickening and a contender for the Cup.

I was so keyed up from the overall performance of the Oilers from the other day that I forgot to pimp out the soon to be rookie of the year, Mr. Eberle.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uWbrZ_PE0U"]YouTube - October 7th, 2010 Edmonton Oiler Jordan Eberle's 1st NHL Goal Vs. Flames[/ame]

Time will truly tell where we are as a hockey club but I have to give respect to Renney, he's letting us play like the Oilers of yesteryear. Sweet stuff to see.

What do you think of Taylor Hall, Eberle and that other young guy they have so far this year?

Taylor Hall is nice and given our youth movement and willingness to work with the youngsters, he's only going to get better.

Magnus is sweet... smooth skater, nice hands and good vision... he does need to bulk up a bit but he's still a very, very solid player.

Eberle is the complete package and should be the rookie of the year. No one in the league has the upside and potential that this kid has, no homer stuff here, he's the real deal.

Fast, young and super fun to watch. Hopefully Horcroff & Strudwick nuture these guys because outside of these two and Khabi we are seriously, seriously young.

I assume Hall stricly plays LW.

But do they have Eberle at RW, or C, and where does this Magnus guys play? I'm eager to see this club play, by the way.

I hope you didn't watch the San Jose game.... ugly, ugly, ugly.

Still a seriously fun team to watch but as last night showed, when you're roster is this young, you're going to take some lumps due to being so inexperienced at this level and many did we get some lumps last night.

All three are wingers, but Eberle can play center.

I did see San Jose's game vs Edmonton, very ugly for the Oilers.

I was impressed by all 3 of the young guys, though, Hall looks incredibly fast but may be pressing too much as the Edmonton media expects him to do so well. Eberle obviously scored the 1st goal, he looks like a hell of a player. And Magnus could turn out to be a star on the wing, I'm excited to see more of him.

The future certainly looks pretty good.... A healthy Khabi is also a nice plus right now.

he had a quick start out of the gates, but has fizzled a little. it should be interesting thought. as with Eberle, there is the kid in Pitt that has had a pretty good start, i think Hall may hurt Eberle's chances as time goes on possibly, also because of the comparisons with Hall there will be Seguin in the mix i would believe, there is a ton of hype with Subban so we will see how that goes... also, can not forget the goalies, Neuvirth, Bobrovsky, and Lindback... this rookie race should be a bit more clear in a month. separating some contenders from pretenders

Forgive me, I must of been spending the night with Khabibulin drinking when I posted the above. What an ugly season so far... I'll be surprised if we don't make a big trade to push out some of the dead wood we have on our roster. Penner needs to go ASAP.

haha, the team showed some fight last night to come back and almost get something out of the San Jose game. Eberle and Hall seem to be clicking nicely and developing well, but still alot of pressure on the team to win.

I am not trying to be rude, really I am not, but when you said they were contenders for the cup, I did laugh out loud. I still think they will play better and not end up with the worst record(the Islanders have that locked down), maybe even challenge for a playoff spot. They need another good puck moving defenseman and just time for the young kids to develop. Remember that your best players are still 18, 19, 20.

After going through the season that we had last season and seeing us play such sexy hockey in the first few games of this season... ya can't blame me for jumping the gun.

I really thought Penner finally turned the corner on his poor habits but it seems last season was just a tease... he's brutal and I can't wait for him to be shipped out, my luck he winds up with the Isles or Panthers.

Eberle has cooled off a bit but he seems to be out of Renney's doghouse so hopefully he keeps up his recent solid play. Hemsky is hurt but I'm wondering how long until he implodes or gets shipped out of town... he's been a little too vocal about his unhappiness with the teams state of affairs. He's a wicked winger so I hope we manage to get him in check and back into scoring mode, we are a deadly team when he's in form.

I would also be nice to get Souray off of our books... I'd settle for a 10th round draft pick in the 2067 draft if that's what it takes.

btw... going back to the rookie convo earlier... the kid from Colorado Shattenkirk i think has entered the race. he has been playing phenomenally since getting his chance the last 10-15 games

Agreed but I want to see where he is after the All-Star break. A lot of guys have come out of the gates hot only to cool off. ROY is up for grabs by a lot of guys. Also keep your eye on Cam Fowler as well.

Skinner and Couture have been really impressive as well, lots of talented rookies this year.

I'm a big fan of Hemsky, by the way, hate to see him injured so often.

If I were the Oilers I would trade Penner and Hemsky for a 1st round pick and a NHL player (top 6 hopefully at least for Hemsky). I'd also trade Cogliano and Gagner, for whatever they could fetch, as long as it is a decent haul.

The Oilers need are a big top line two center and similar level defenseman away from being an elite team. A bad season this year grabs them maybe Couturier or Larsson and you have half way there, but right now, once you get past their three young wingers, you have a whole lot of average.

I remember watching the 2010 NHL draft and watching team after team pass on Cam Fowler and kept thinking, what are you doing? I think you are already are going to see one of those, how did he fall that far things going on very soon, like Getzlaf, Mike Green etc. The Oilers were very very high on Fowler, even considering him, albeit briefly, with the number 1 overall pick. turns out they knew what they were doing.

Here is something scary to think about. Fowler is on pace for 6 goals 32 assists, 38 points and -25. Another 18 year old recently had a rookie year of 6 goals 21 assists, 27 points and -17. Drew Doughty turned out alright I guess.
