whom would you pick as a realistic 2nd DP?

look at us, talking about a 2nd DP, feels pretty spoiled right now :D , but i say why not, especially if money isnt an issue as was indicated.

One that immediately sticks out to me is Franco, we need a methodical goalscorer to go next to Wondo.

The USMNT fan in me wants to see us put a cheeky bid in for Gringo Torres, whos not getting much time at Pachuca right now. As fans one of the things we hate is bunkering on a dime when we have the lead. Torres would give us INSTANT possession ball, and we all crave that so much. Have him play deep lying midfield with Geovanni as attacking mid, OH the possibilities

Why not JPA? He'll be out of contract and at his age he'll be at the lower end of the DP salary spectrum. He's a pure finisher and a level above Franco. I say let's sign him for a one year contract (with an additional year as a club option) and wait until the SSS is built until we get the big name DP to fill the seats.

Haven't you folks learned anything about Doyle, Yallop and crew? It's gonna be someone we've never heard of before -- somebody who will have us scratching our collective heads until someone manages to find some five-year-old Youtube footage from some mid- to lower-level EPL or Serie A team...

Ha ha, some of us actually knew who Geovanni was before the Quakes signed him.

    These are great choices.

Especially for Feilhaber as he's now playing in the Danish 2nd division. Even if it's a loan arrangement, he'd be a great addition to the team....

I'd rather not have a second DP.

I would much prefer to have some players in the $140K to $260K range who were actually worth that kind of money.

Convey at $244K has been our top player (other than Wondo) all season. If we're talking about $335 or so for a DP, we could get two quality players for that kind of cash. Let us not overlook that the total salary cap is a paltry $2.55M. If we lay out $700K or there abouts on two players, we're down to $1.8M for the other 28. That's just not a very good idea. And before we go waxing poetic about NYRB or the scum-sucking filth, let's just acknowledge that there's some winking and nodding going on at MLS HQ concerning their salaries and cap numbers. We will be held to the cap.

I think we can get really good players for $140K to $260K and quite a few of them. If we lay out too much on DP's, we'll have less of those middle tier guys that every MLS team is built upon.

    Just my $2.55M.

    GO QUAKES!! :D

Im not so sure on Feilhaber, he has said that he absolutely despises artificial turf, and rightfully so lots of his injuries were partially the result of artificial turf, i dont think the league will be too impressive an option for him . Plus we have Geo who plays much the same attacking central midfield position. I think he will ultimately stay in Europe.

thats why i like Torres, he plays deep lying and plays surgical balls through the backfield. It would actually give the Quakes a much better chance of playing attractive ball.

JPA is also a great choice as well, you cant really go wrong with that one.

Second DP? I just want a second Wondo.

What I mean is someone whose performance and contribution is worth or above money we spend. However, we have the oppositie right now in AA, Sealy and even RJ. I don't remember how much Glen costs. I will ask him when he wanders back from the offside position.

Excellent post Mark - I completely agree with all of those points! I don't think another really good player is going to help us immediately with the same cast of characters supporting him. It's a team sport (duh) and what good is a striker we bring in and pay 400K+ if there's no one who can make plays and get him the ball in dangerous positions? I'd rather have several more guys we pay in the 150-200k range who can make this team better overall. Specifically, I'd rather bring in some young, fast talent who are wanting to work hard and get noticed, rather than some past-their-prime players who don't have the same ambition.

I think with the way that Benny is playing his price tag would be heftier than Torres. However, either one of those two would be aces ..... as would JPA, but you can plan more long term with benny and torres as they are younger.

Still wonder about 2 santos ......

JPA would be great. Classy guy. We need a stadium to have numbers before a second DP.

I haven't seen either Geovanni , Marquez ,Henry or Beckham exactly set the world on fire. I'm still waiting to see how any of them leaves me with my mouth open and as of yet, haven't seen a thing..... We don't freaking need big name expensive DP's! We need solid goal scorers and creative midfielder's who can hang in the MLS......There are so many throughout Europe and South America, you would think the Quakes would get wise by now.....

This should be called the "If you give a mouse a cookie..." thread.

I feel lucky to have one DP, so don't want to ask for two. What I'm stoked about for next year is we hopefully will have both Opara, and ALM back.

Because not too many European and no South American clubs will offer an over 30 player $16,666.00 a match in the January transfer window.....
