Inter face a tough trip to Sardinia without key men Esteban Cambiasso and Diego Milito, but hosts Cagliari have a few problems of their own.

The Nerazzurri need to get back on track having picked up one point from their last two League matches. Two games without a win might not constitute a crisis for most clubs, but for an Inter side that has ruled Serie A so imperiously for the past five seasons, perhaps it does.

The fact that the points were dropped against Scudetto contenders Roma and Juventus is no consolation either, as comparisons to the eras of Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho, when the Serpenti made a habit of demolishing their nearest rivals, are inevitable.

Rafa Benitez’s side have dazzled at times this term, notably in the 4-0 Champions League thrashing of Werder Bremen, but there have been hints of public indiscipline that would have been unthinkable during Mourinho’s reign, that is unless your name is Mario Balotelli.

The bad news for Benitez is the absence of Cambiasso and Milito, two men who are absolutely integral to everything Inter do. Both were injured on international duty with Argentina. On the flip side Milito’s absence allows the red hot Samuel Eto’o to play his favoured centre forward role.

In truth, Inter’s problems are trifling in comparison to those of Cagliari. Before the international break Coach Pierpaolo Bisoli froze out his captain Daniele Conti and his vice-captain Alessandro Agostini after the pair came to blows.

The club claims the issue has been resolved, although both players are expected to warm the bench for this encounter. The row was the last thing Bisoli needed after rumours emerged suggesting that the players were unhappy with his methods and that his job was at threat.

Things haven’t been going to plan on field either. Remarkably four of the six Serie A fixtures the Isolani have played this season have ended 0-0. The attacking verve that characterised Cagliari under Massimiliano Allegri’s tutelage has disappeared. Bisoli must rediscover it soon, for his own sake and that of the team.

Cagliari are free from injury and suspension worries, but Cambiasso and Milito are joined on Inter’s injury list by Thiago Motta, Ivan Cordoba, Goran Pandev and David Suazo. Youngsters Jonathan Biabiany and Philippe Coutinho are expected to start on the wings once more, having excelled against Bremen.

Keep an eye on: Dejan Stankovic (Inter) – ‘Deki’ has impressed this season in a new deep lying midfield position, there will be added responsibility on his shoulders in Cambiasso’s absence. However, having been reduced to tears by the behaviour of his nation’s supporters at Marassi midweek, will Serbia’s captain be in the right frame of mind?

    Last five in Serie A: Cagliari (W D D L D) Inter (W W W L D)

    Last season: Cagliari 1-2 Inter

Top tip: Wounded animal Cagliari to spring a big shock with a 1-0 win.

Stat fact: Inter have won just two of their last six visits to the Stadio Sant’Elia, with three consecutive draws, 3-3, 2-2 and 1-1 between 2004 and 2007.
Cagliari (probable): Agazzi; Pisano, Canini, Astori, Ariaudo; Biondini, Nainggollan, Lazzari; Cossu; Acquafresca, Matri

Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu; Stankovic, Zanetti; Sneijder, Coutinho, Biabiany; Eto’o

As for the Cagliari line up... Matri is always a threat coming from out wide, the same goes for Cossu.

Acquafresca, possibly the best Inter product the past 5 years who hasn't made it at our club will be a threat in the air.

And Astori, a Bilan loanee is a pretty good defender, that will be hard to get past.

Yes, I saw the match but missed the first 20 minutes or so. Not the greatest of games but Eto'o's goal was world class. Julio Cesar was the other key player having saved at least two clear occasions for Cagliari. Racist chanting seems to follow Eto'o from Spain to Italy. One time in Spain he also responded to the chants by scoring. Frankly though the punishments for racist chants have been nothing more than symbolic, which is why they will continue. Denying the culprits points even if they are leading, slap some real meaningful fines, play behind closed doors for a few times and the problem might be controlled. Really a shameful aspect of European football. That aside, I was happy to see Eto'o becoming decisive for Inter once again. As long as he is put in his favorite position, expect more of the same.

I saw it. Was out on saturday and returned in the morning so I had very little sleep. Basically I woke up and watched the game and then went back to sleep.

It was mostly bad but we took 3 points so Ill keep the bitching to a minimum for the Tottenham game. I already said it God help us once Eto dips in form. Sneijder continues to play like crap, Ben needs to sort this fast.

We are well enough into the season that we should see more positive things start to emerge than negative, as for sneijder....maybe it's cause eto took over the role of both CF and AM :D

I remember reading about that, and racist chants are all over europe, it's sad when fans cross that line
