Umm, maybe because they knew they weren't going to get anywhere in the Libertadores even if they tried, so they decided to focus on the Clausura at the same time...

    Thank you BTW.
La Lepra playing very well, a bit depleted and with lots of young kids and doing well in both la Sudamericana and la liga.

Bocita Sensini is a good DT, I hope Newell's can keep him for awhile.

    DALE NEWELL'S !!

Sperdutti playing exceptionally. He is really on form.It was a good decision by sensini to change his position from right midfielder to right winger. He is much more dangerous now with his speed and dribbling and power shots.

Is Newell's playing with a backline of 4?

No, 3-4-2-1 is the formation sensini is using lately.

    ----------------Peratta-----------------------
    ---- Alayes-----Schiavi-------Cichero----------
    -Vella------Mateo------Bernardi----Estigarribia---
    --------Sperdutti-----------------Formica------
    -------------------Borghello--------------------

There is an attacking triangle up front with sperdutti, formica and borghello.

    Zant, my man-t!

    Vamos Newell's CA RA JO!!

I agree incidentally, but he really didn't have much of a choice given the sale of so many forwards, especially achucarro

Tonight will be intersting because they are playnig a game in the Sudamericana. Otherwise, i assume they will be compact and tight behind the midfield stripe.
Glad Maradona isn't their manager for this Bolivia trip :)

Not an easy trip i heard, they have to fly to Cochabamba and then 4 hours of bus to Oruro, so i guess they'll spend more time on bus than on plaine.

Interesting thing is that Salvatierra scored the 6th goal and he was the only forward to score on this match, not even "Pulga" Rodríguez did, when it seems he scores most of the time he comes from the bench.

    Damnnit!!
Very close, but a loss is a loss.
Peratta is truely having a revival in his career, and deserves a call up to La Selecion, even though he's 34 years old. He kept Newell's in the game.
I thought Sperdutti did not have a good game, but hustled more than anyone.
I'm not sure what effect the altitude ultimately had, i thought it was a game Newell's had the better of, but for that quality shot by Calderon.
El Argentino Barcos had a pretty good game, and for me, Formica has the potential to be the next very good enganche Newell's have had since Manso.
Alayes and Schiavi had very good games, i'm amazed Flaco keeps going.
i thought they would be throttled for the altitude factor alone, and its a shame they didn't get to penales, where i think Peratta would've shone. However, i'm proud of their performance, and hope they can keep the team together into next year and make a nice splash in the Libertadores.

    DA-LE NEWELL'S Todavia!!

Unfortunately, we couldn't beat Arsenal.Noir missed a pretty easy one during the last minutes. It was Cagna's first game and i noticed some improvements. He used a more orthodox formation like 4-4-2 and the team tried to play the ball down. However, the team still needs a lot of improvements if we want to avoid relegation...

    Watching La Lepra versus Estudiantes.
The shape of the team ging forward is already mych improved from last year.
Torres is a terror on the right, has very good pace, allows Bernanrdi to play a more central role.

Perez is reborn un der Tata.

Drawing the first game of the year against arguably the second best team in the league, one which played last week in an "official" match - the conclusion of the Banfield-Pincha game from the last "season", suspended due to Estudiante barra bravas - provides me with pleasant optimism.

Maxi,Scocco and Heinze!! La lepra has stolen the show with these transfers! About the new torneo, our first match was a home 0-0 tie with Independiente where we had the chances to get the win but we didn't utilize them. The second match for the new tournament was an away encounter with Lanus where we won with a nice goal by Sperdutti. We remain in the last 3 places of the descenso table ,so we definitely need to get as many points as possible this year. But i don't worry.Martino has done a tremendous job and as soon as the three players mentioned above fit into the squad, then there will be few teams that will have the quality to stop us!Vamo la lepra!

Martino is a great DT and some of the other experienced players such as Bernardi,Lopez and Figueroa will bring on the likes of Urruti,Tonso and Vergini.
