The Indonesian Coach and Indonesian FA delegation is in Holland at the moment to scouting for Dutch-Indonesian Player playing in Holland. As a results they said they already got 5 players that good enough for the Indonesian National Team and they are willing to chaneg their nationality to play for Indonesian NT. Indonesian FA called up John Van Beukering to play in Indonesian NT for upcoming friendly matches against Uruguay and Honduras. From 5 players they said 2 players are forward, 2 are midfielders and 1 is defender. If there is no problems they will join the Indonesian NT TC on 3rd of October, and The Adelaide United Striker Sergio Van DIjk maybe lining up for the TC and friendly too.

Very interesting indeed. Van Dijk is an awesome player, probably one of the top forwards in A-league. I thought he wasn't eligible to play for Indonesia NT as he had to give up his dutch nationality in order to play for Indonesia? Very exciting to see those emergent nations in South East Asia, especially Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Those 3 countries have a lot of potential to become new football giants in Asia.

A few months ago Indonesian FA called him up to discuss about his nationality and he said he needs to think about it first and the Indonesian FA gave him 3 months to think about it. In the end he said that he is finally ready to give up his dutch nationality to play for Indonesia. I think its gonna be great to see he and John Van Brukering playing for Indonesia NT.

The law in Indonesia allowed dual nationality for someone under 18. But when the person become 18, he/she should only have 1 nationality.

Wow, if Sergio van Dijk joins Indonesia then Hong Kong will have a very formidable opponent in the 21st Nov friendly.

But I really cannot see anyone giving up EU citizenship for Indonesian citizenship... with a EU passport you more or less have visa free entry to almost any country in the world.

It seems not only Van Dijk will play for Indonesia NT in a friendly against Uruguay, there might be 4 additional dutch players that have Indonesian heritage will play in the friendly too. PSSI(Indonesia FA) just announced the 5 players yesterday, here are they :

John Van Beukering (Go Ahead Eagles)/FORWARD

    David Ririhena (Top Oss)/ DEFENDER

    Tom Hiariej (Gronigen)/MIDFIELDER

    Michael Timisela (VVV Venlo)/MIDFIELDER

The friendly against Uruguay is also a selection match for those 5 players whether they are good enough to play for the Indonesian NT squad for the AFF Cup 2010 in December.

Those players named are very impressive, but they also seem to have a chance with the Dutch national team. I doubt they will make the move to represent Indonesia...

very interesting case about the five players
never seen any nation have so much foreign players changing nationality all at once to play for the team (assume all five do change)

if the five players do join the indonesian team
i think there is a definite boost up for the whole national side

i hope they will understand bahasa indonesia :p

They already stated that they sre willing to represent Indonesia. They said their chances playing for Dutch NT is so small.

I dunno if they all can speak Bahasa Indonesia but they sure can speak Maluku Languange..

I can't actually see Indonesia demanding Van Dijk to hand over his Dutch passport. Surely they can't do this. It really isn't there concern is it. They are happy if he has Indonesian passport to play for them as long as he hasn't played for Holland before. If he has Dutch passport aswell, what harm does it do them? Nothing.

Does anyone know how to watch I.S.L. games in the United States?

I would love to be able to watch Persebaya. Perhaps this can be accomplished via an internet feed?

Unfortunately Persebaya is not in the 1st tier of the league, they got relegated last season, so I don't think Persebaya games will be broadcast. I think when Indonesian Cup Tournament is starts then you can watch it on TV. anyway here is the link if any members on bigsoccer want to watch ISL :

Citizenship means you have the passport. It doesn't mean you have to hand over your Dutch passport. They're many dual nationals in this world, my wife one of them. She can therefore use which ever passport suits her at the time. Going to Thailand, she uses the Thai passport, going to Europe, she uses the English passport to avoid VISA issues. So surely the same is for Van Djik.
