While the men showed a horrible performance, the 2.BL women team had a better start. After a 3-0 away win at Magdeburg they won today 1-0 vs. Gütersloh. :)

Maren Wallenhorst scored the winner in the second half.

Next match is on Friday against Cloppenburg (a local derby).

Werder has an own section for womens football on the clubs page (sadly only in German). The women departent started in 2006 with preparation work. In 2007 a women team took part in the Verbandsliga Bremen (4th division) and a girls team was founded as well. The women reached in 3 seasons 2 promotions ad currently Werder is preparing to get promoted to the BL (goal 2-3 seasons).

Btw: This is our 2. BL team (click to reach the Werder players infos site):

Thanks for that Eisenfuss :)! I think thier smiling faces say it all. Aaah to be young again, playing for the love of the game. So are these players well paid? I mean, I'm not stupid. I know they aren't millionaires; but do the women make a living from it? Have you watched them play? Do they play at the Weser? That would be sweet if they had a game on TV! Are matches ever televised? I will email my cousin in Bremen and find out if they have souveniers. I have some Werder men's items that I've purchased over the years. It would be a good thing to support them to, being a young organization. Anyhow, thanks for the link to the homepage, I'll go there now and maybe answer some of my own questions. Good luck to them in thier struggle to reach BuLi 1!

    Amazing what you learn here...

    Fantastic!

This forum is already my best source for Werder youth news, and now it seems that there is yet another Werder team to cheer for.

    Thanks for the update, Eisenfuß.

They have normal jobs (or are students) beside playing football.

At first they played at the university, but since 1 or 2 seasons they play at Platz 12 close to the Weserstadion. The attendance at league matches is a few hundred persons.
On Werder.tv fro time to time there are videos about them, and there are some youtube videos.

    Some examples:

ROUND 6: Just interested what happened to our femme fatale update, I think we missed a week. This is what happened today and I will edit later once I found last weeks stuff.

Looks like they smashed SVVG 3-1! Y'know, let them have the first goal so they felt like they were okay...and then destroy all of their hopes and dreams with 3 un-answered goals...watch and learn boys!

SV Victoria Gersten: Oude-Wesselink – Meiners, Börger, Altevolmer (87. Knese), B. Kappel, Sieksmeyer, Tepe, Sauer (69. Lögering), Rohling, I. Kappel, Schulze (82. Drews)

    Tore: 0:1 B. Kappel (40.), 1:1 König (65.), 2:1 Golebiewski (81.), 3:1 König (90.)

    Gelbe Karten: Scholz (Werder)

    Schiedsrichterin: Sandra Blumenthal (Pritzwalk)

The best ideas always seem to take on a life of their own. Can you find anywhere on bigsoccer that dedicates effort to a Women's club? A city club? No, I think you're the first and only Poppa. I can't tell you how proud I am that we are discussing women in sports instead of posting the usual pics and sexual inuendo, even if it is only posting results for the moment. Maybe someone will come along, see this and give us more insight because they go to the games and participate. It might be a better plan to have a Women's thread all together in the Germany>clubs area so all those interested would be aware and participate instead of individual threads fading and getting buried in the Men's threads.

I hope there were enough rides home for everyone!

A poster in the Olympique Lyonnais subforum started a topic "OL women" already in 2005. But we are the first subforum with a non UWCL-team (UEFA women CL), not even a top flight team, but that will change hopefully quite fast. ;)

Werder Bremen: Martens – Kersting, Notthoff, Holsten, Votava – Scholz, Freyhat, Hamann (70. König), Golebiewski (82. Haar) – Uyar, Wallenhorst

    Goals: 0:1 Wallenhorst (42.), 1:1 Pank (63.), 1:2 König (86.)

    Referee: Annett Unterbeck (Leipzig)

    Stadion Waldwiese: 100 spectators

So the girls collected 22 points in 8 matches. Next opponent is Oldesloe.

Sadly bad news from the women team. Werder currently suffers (like then men) under heavy injury problems and without 8 injured girls (including top scorer Wallenhorst) the Green-Whites lost 0-3 vs. Oldesloe. :(

Werder Bremen: Martens – Kersting (75. Möhlmann), Notthoff, Holsten, Votava – Golebiewski (46. Hamann), Scholz, Freyhat, Haar (62. Bopp) – Uyar, König

FFC Oldesloe: Wiener – Fritz, Wöhler, Hildebrandt, Schneider, Wencel, von Appen (42. Stamer), Engel (86. Runge), Begunk, Gieseler (84. Heinrich), Lippert

    goals: 0:1 Lippert (26.), 0:2 Stamer (69.), 0:3 Heinrich (87.)

Yes, the ladies team lost a bit touch to the top of the table. Maybe it is not bad, because in case of promotion to the BL would have come too early. I hope that the second team reach promotion to the 3rd league in summer. That would improve the width and shortens the gap to the fist team, and it is easier to develop talents. :)

Nice to post the link, so we are already up-to-date. :)

    Here some actual news:
2.BL women: Werder Bremen - Holstein Kiel 2-0
Werder Bremen: Martens - William, Eckermann, Holsten (88. Bopp), Votava - Zunker, Scholz, Notthoff, Haar (55. Hamann), C. König - Wallenhorst
Holstein Kiel: Ravn - Grube, Danielsen, Pashley, Schildt - Pulkis, Krohn, Pank (40. Krause) - Weigel, R. Jakubowski, Hild
    Tore: 1:0 Zunker (13.), 2:0 Wallenhorst (69.)
Gelbe Karten: William (Werder) - Schildt (Kiel)
    Schiedsrichterin: Corinna Feldmann (Wietmarschen)
    Stadion „Platz 12": 151 Zuschauer

Doreen Nabwire, who is a Namibian national player and played 2009/2010 for Werder wrote a book about her way from an Namibian slum to European football. Its name is "Traumpass" (I don't know a direct translation, but it means something like "pass of your dreams" or "perfect pass").

    I'm a fan of our Women's team.

If its a Werder team playing soccer, I support them, be in U17 Men or our Women's team in the Zweite Liga.

Werders U17 and U15 girls team both are Northern German champions and the reserve got promoted into Regionalliga (3rd division).

In the play-offs the U15 beat Hamburger SV in the semi-finals 1-0 and in the final the green-white girls won against Lower Saxony champion Heidekraut Andervenne 1-0 as well.

The U17 won the Northern German championship the 3rd time in a row.
In the semi-finals they clashed TSV Schönberg (Schleswig-Holstein) 10:0 and in the final they won 2-0 against Hamburger SV.

At the German play-offs sadly the U17 missed their best players, because Werders reserves had the same day their promotion play-offs to Regionalliga (3rd division) and the opponents were tough. After two losses against Güterslo 0-2 (Westfalen-champion) and a 1-5 defeat vs. Sindelfingen (Baden-Würthenberg) the team could collect 3 points against Lok Leipzig (2-1 win). Turbine Potsdam got tournament winner after a 3-2 vs. Sindelfingen.

But it was the right decision to send a part of the U17 team to strengthen the reserve. So the reserve reached promotion after a 2-0 vs. SC Eilbek (Hamburg champion) and a 1-0 vs. FC Riepsdorf (Schleswig-Holstein).

Hopefully this positive trend continues and some girls from U17/U15 can make it via the reserve into the first team.

I don't know if anyone has been to the UEFA.com site and seen the match center changes. Nice! I was there today and noted that the UEFA Women's Champion's League is in the round of sixteen. Frankfurt and Potsdam are apparently representing well. Here's a link:

Take a look at the bottom of the page and note the previous winner's. Cool!

Yes, at the start of the CL Swedish and German teams dominated the competition. In recent years the BL teams were still title favorites, but also teams from elsewhere (Arsenal, Lyon) joined the title race.

Our 2.BL women team most probably does not play a role in promotion this season. After 7 match days they have 6 points less than the best team that can get promoted and have 4 points more than the team on the relegate play-down spot. The reserve in 3rd league collected 5 points more than the team on the first relegation spot and preventing relegation must be the goal for them.
