I heard a very, very interesting item this evening before the game. It seems there is to be a major stadium announcement on either 9/13 or 9/14. Apparently, there has been very quiet but major movement on a new Stadium for United. I tried to get more details, but I did hear: 1. The Stadium will be close (but not in) DC 2. The Stadium is to follow the same general plan as what was proposed for Popular Point 3. Around 27k in size 4. Will include Hotel / Conference areas that will be open on an ongoing basis. I got this from a very reliable source. They would not go further than what I've outlined and felt somewhat uncomfortable with what I was able to pry out.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 If you're ********ing with us or even mistaken there's a beating coming to you.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 Agreed. I saw this was posted on the 1st but I woulda figured it would say April and not September on my calendar.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 I would not post this if I didn't think it was genuine. I would would be very surprised, disappointed even pissed off if the person that told me this was pulling my chain. I have 3 other people who were with me when this discussion happened. We also had another Season Ticket holder who sits in an adjacent section who also happened to overhear the conversation. That person after apologizing for overhearing the conversation asked if he heard what he thought he heard about a New Stadium Announcement. I said that that was exactly we had heard.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 And on Sept. 14 the Washington Post launches another systematic attack on the stadium encouraging the NIMBYs in whatever locale this might be to fight against it giving them maximum press in stories, editorials and columns. Because that’s all the Post is good for—stirring up a ruckus in this new age of yellow journalism. If the stadium were to be on the Moon and paid for with Spacebucks they would say it's a waste of Moonscape and Spacebucks.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 Nick, no reflection on you, but you'll forgive me if I reserve judgement (and reaction) until we hear something concrete. I can't take the anguish of the Poplar Point and PG County episodes again.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 I've heard stuff too but I'll believe stadium stories when final brick is in place (not even when shovel hits the ground ) There's been too much false hopes already so lets just keep chugging along and then we can't get disappointed
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 If this is a tease you will be hunted down and you will feel the payne of our many years of frustration.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 A stadium deal would be a nice springboard for a rise back to the top. It would provide stability for a franchise running on fumes and might give Chang more leeway and security if he wants accountability in the front office should he decide to go that route. Although I'm not getting my hopes up .
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 ******** every single one of you mother********ers. Shut the ******** up
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 Matt, I completely understand. All I can attest to is that I am accurately passing on what I heard from someone I would expect would know. I am just as surprised/skeptical as anyone else. I debated posting this for exactly the same reason, but the fact is that is what was said. Like I said before I will be very upset if this is not confirmed and I get to listen to pot shots from everyone on this forum about my yanking their chain.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 I trust that Nick is passing on what he heard. I also trust that a announcement will be made. However we have heard announcements before but we continue to sit in RFK. As BBBulldog says when I see bricks/concrete I will believe it.
Re: Major Announcement on 9/13 Sorry, internet lacks nuance. "Shut the ******** up" because you're sick of getting your hopes up or "Shut the ******* up" because we're jinxing it? You know what worries me? "Very quiet and very major." I hope they're not trying "the backroom deal, fait accompli, this way we don't have to worry about NIMBY opposition" model again. "Very quiet" worries me because, ultimately, I assume this thing is going to have to face the public. I'm usually wrong though, so that is a good sign.
