Re: Preferred way to get to RB Arena Subway down to WTC and then PATH will give yu a seat on PATH, but an addition $2.25 to the MTA. Is a seat worth $2.25? up tp you
Re: Preferred way to get to RB Arena Also no transfer needed. I would personally go down to WTC and take the train from there. It is going to cost you another 4.50 round-trip though... so take that into consideration. If you do that every home game, i guess it starts adding up.
I was in the city yesterday on vacation and saw the nyrb game at Nevada Smiths. That is an excellent bar and great atmosphere. It is one of the better soccer bars I have been to. Thank you very much for the recommendation. My brothers and I had a great time. Cheers.
Re: Preferred way to get to RB Arena Depends on where you are coming from. I think WTC path is pretty good, but if you leave from 34th st on weekends i would take nj transit its so much faster than going from the 34th st path since it goes to hoboken then loops back.
Re: Preferred way to get to RB Arena Also true. Cheapest is undoubtedly the PATH from 33rd. You have to transfer, but it's all the one fare... so like $1.75 each way. Quickest depends upon point of departure. Quickest from 34th is probably NJ Transit to Newark then walking to the stadium. Quickest from downtown is the WTC Path.
How hard is it to get there? I would be getting off at the Newark train station and was planning on walking. Is it further than El Prado and what is the atmosphere like? I was thinking of taking a couple of business clients and was not looking for something fancy and not too expensive but a place with some decent atmosphere with a portuguese feel and definitely geared for soccer and for drinks and food. I was not crazy about Bellos because all the TV's were on baseball and nothing on soccer although they had foozball tables.
Re: Preferred way to get to RB Arena Really depends on where you are coming from... Many other options depending on distance/location.. If you are in northern or central New Jersey, any NJ transit train or even Amtrak from anywhere between Washington DC and Boston right to Newark Penn Station and walk accross the bridge to the area. If are you are in Hoboken or live on the NJ side of the Hudson river, take the light rail to Hoboken, then Path to Harrison. If you are way out on Long Island, take the LI railway to Penn Station and then any train to Newark... If you are not in NY already or just visiting for the game, the HILTON HOTEL in Newark is attached to the Newark Penn Station. You litterally walk accross the bridge over the river into the Arena.. Going to do this in September. When I was there a couple years ago for a game at the swamp, i used this hotel as a base to go to the Yankee game and visit WTC area.. Much cheaper than NYC proper
parking in harrison I have to drive in for the LA game. How is parking in harrison? Is there a public parking lot across from the red bull arena.
Re: parking in harrison get there very early and you wont hate parking in harrison, until after the game. Get there at a normal time and you'll be in the thick of traffic just trying to get off the parkway. There is no parking across from the stadium, but there are lots within walking distance that the cops will be directing you to.
Re: parking in harrison yes, plan to get there early, there is a 3 places to park, a temporary lot a block away north from the path station, one next to the station (big parking building) and across the street from the station all the way inside the empty warehouse.
Re: Preferred way to get to RB Arena Who pays per ride? get a monthly pass if you live anywhere in the city and the price drops to considerably less than 2.50 a ride? (I know, I know PATH is a different system)
From Newark Penn it's a bit of a walk. Go down Ferry St. until you hit Wilson. Take a right and it's down a few blocks on the right side on the corner of Lexington.
Re: parking in harrison where you coming from ? I park on the Ironbound section, street parking is free and easy walk across the bridge . You may also find free parking if you decide to catch a bite at one of the many restaurants,we use El Pastor. LA game is sold out, you better be there 3 hours early.
Is "El pastor" a good environment for a 10 and 13 year old after a game? I'm talking about my kids and I obviously.
First RedBull Arena game Hey guys me and my dad will be going to our first game in maybe 4 years next Wednesday against Toronto FC. It will also be our first trip to RedBull Arena. Do you guys recommend checking anything out around the arena or a particular concession stand at the arena? Also being that the game is on a weekday and I live in Queens how early should I get there? And finally do you think RM4 will make his debut next wednesday? Thanks alot
Re: First RedBull Arena game It is kind of nice in a way to see all these new threads pop up from newbies or out-of-towners. It means we're popular kids on the block. It's better than being a Revs fan.
Re: First RedBull Arena game The only thing I can tell you, is to get there early and get something to eat around the Ironbound area. El Pastor is a great place to eat and lots of Redbull atmosphere. Also I suggest parking your car around there too. Market street is a great choice to park your car. When it's time to go home just take market st to NJ Turnpike. I also live in Queens, and my experience going to the game is flawless. Anyway good luck and enjoy. I'll be there on sat the 14th against LA.
Re: parking in harrison thats what I do, but I answered re Harrison since he/she specifically asked about it. I tried harrison once and hated it!
Re: First RedBull Arena game get there like 2 or 3 hours early and head to El Pastor in Newark. It's on Market St, which is the street that you run into after you cross that little bridge. if you're driving, you can park your car in the El Pastor lot for free the whole time. Most of us in the ESC go there pre and post game. It's a lot of fun and they run drink and food specials for us.
Just to chime in with my 3 cents... Getting there: I live in Washington Heights by the A train. For me taking a NJ Transit train from NY Penn to Newark Penn is definitely the thing to do. Especially on a weekend as you can usually count on the MTA to do strange things, but A train service to Penn Station is always available in some way. (Not the case with A train service to Chambers). It does cost a few dollars more, and is a little more of a walk. (Also they don't seem to always collect tickets on this relatively quick trip, so sometimes it's 'free'.) Once you're there: I'm more of a beer drinker, so Bellos is my #1 spot, and it's right by Newark Penn. So I get off the train, have a few beers at Bellos. Recently I've taken to stopping by El Pastor for some sangria on the way to the stadium. The best of both worlds! At the stadium: There's a premium beer stand by 124 which has Stiegl on tap. I usually get a large one before the game. I don't get one at the half because RBA has slow concession lines at the half and I like to see the game! After the game: I walk back to Newark and take NJT to NY Penn. The PATH train after the game can be a harrowing experience. NJT has always been almost entirely pain-free. On NJ Transit I usually get a seat. On the PATH I usually get delayed. Generally the more crowded games have been worse than the less crowded games. When it is crowded it's not really THAT different from other large venues where if you're unlucky you may get stuck in traffic - we've just not been used to it at Giants Stadium. And with our new roster, I think we can expect most games to be of the crowded variety now.
Good idea for an informative thread, maybe the mods could edit the first post every once in awhile with important relevant information? This way we could avoid having a "where to park/drink/eat" thread every few days.
If its a weekend pre-game you'll get a few drunks at El Pastor, but we're not talkin Mardi Gras level shenanigans here. You'll still be able to find a quiet space and there have always been kids there whenever I've gone.
