He's a really good ref. I'd rank him 5th in Europe after Busacca, Rosetti, FDB, and Webb.

Good to know. But I see that he refereed the U-20 World Cup Semifinal between Argentina and Chile, which was the most controversial match I've ever seen

He did Chelsea - Inter which was a debacle as well. Pretty good ref but isn't the best at dealing with players who want to play games instead of football.

I do think this game may present more football that games by players, so let's see how Stark does.

What is the purpose of "favor the attacking player" on tight OS decisions??

Seems to me it is rarely is applied.

Perhaps our brains can't think that fast when we make those snap decisions??

It looks as if the players are more into playing football than play-acting, for the most part. Very interesting sportsmanship so far ...

Wow! No call on the very obvious handling in the box on the part of Korea. DGH in my book ...

    Fun game thus far.

That did look like handling, and subsequently a DOGSO-H.

Two chance on goal. Not goals.

    Hmmm.

I do think USSF would want that called for "making oneself bigger", but it seems clear to me that the Korean was doing what he could to avoid possibly handing the ball.

I think I would call it if the ball was on goal, and not call it if the ball was not on goal. This is where "did the defender benefit" comes into play.

I think the ball was going well over the goal, but I could be wrong.

While the "handling" was "obvious", I don't think the call was obvious.

The thing is, his arm is in that position to avoid handling the ball before he plays it with his knee. Then it looks like ball-to-hand, not hand-to-ball. (Of course, he could have been playing the ball off his knee to his hand -- who knows.)

In either event, the ball isn't on a path to the goal, so I don't think you can argue DOGSO-H, even if you see it as a penalty.

What was the first one, a missed offside call?

Well it was going toward the goal, that can't be argued. Now perhaps PV is right where the ball was likely going OVER the net (at which point I would consider the handling trifling and not call it), but from the brief replay I saw, it didn't look like it was substantially over.

I will really need to watch the replay in real time to decide. I can't relly argue his call too much at this point due to the closeness of the kicker to the defender, the defender's inability to avoid contact with the ball at the distance and speed of ball. I do not think at this point that he played the ball, but the ball played him. My only question is did the defender make himself bigger deliberately. Remember, for the call to be made the LOTG says "handles the ball deliberately."

Need to watch it a few more times... but in the split second decision by the referee, I can't fault his no call.

Korea had good penalty. Uruguay player stamped on Korean in area. So one each on penalty bad calls.

Except in the first case the Korean player had his arm retracted and covering his face when the ball came flying into him. Cavani on the other hand made no attempt to play the ball and simply stepped on the player's foot when he saw that the player was going to get past him in the penalty area.

I do think that Stark was a bit inconsistent in his calls. Diego Perez should have seen yellow if Kim Jung Woo was deserving of one also. Generally the calls were more in favor of the Uruguayan team, but full credit to them for the win.

Unhappy with Stark. Blew some big decisions. Penalty for Korea, the clear cut chance on 90th minute but he somehow awarded Uruguay a free kick and then in the end when Korea were on the fast track forward and he blew the whistle before the time ran out.

For my part he seem to favor Uruguay a lot.

Wow, those are some rose colored glasses. I do agree that he missed a PK each way so it evened out.

Even though Uruguay had an incorrect offside call stinge a one-on-one opp and a clear handball pk?

He made mistakes both ways. Not Stark's best, but a fair game.

He was various flops, in the first time we could end 3-0. In the second Korea has a PK, and Perez should be yellow carded.
At least we win, cause if we lose i would blame the ref forever. A 2 goal difference is a lot in this type of matches.
