Too much negativity going around. Here's a nice picture of Charlie signing autographs after a training session (photo taken Tuesday, the day of the roster announcement).

Wrote pavlovscat567, in the prior thread:

People have been so buried in the daily ups-and-downs of Davies' recovery that they're viewing the team selection through that lens -- from the inside out, basically. (With a hefty dose of existing anti-Bradleyism mixed in, in many cases.) People need to step back, take a deep breath, and look at the big picture. And then it shouldn't be so jarring that a man who nearly lost his life in an October car crash is not playing in the June World Cup.

Think about it: If you were to put it that way to a neutral onlooker, there would be no shocked reaction or digging for conspiracy theories or flailing to pin blame on someone. It would simply be, "OK, yeah, the car was severed in half, the guy is lucky to be walking, and I wonder if he'll be able to play high-level soccer again."

That's the forest. The trees are the day-to-day details and personal hopes and existing biases that get in the way of stepping back and seeing that big-picture reality.

I agree that Occam's razor is unreliable in matters involving human interpersonal relations.

But to say this situation is about human relations is to beg the question in the first place -- to assume the very conclusion that's in dispute. Only if you think there is some nefarious reason for Bradley's exclusion of Davies does this become about human relations to begin with. Otherwise, it is what it simply is: a set of difficult circumstances, involving cold facts on the ground and objective assessments of reality, in which Davies has been assessed to be unworthy of inclusion on the squad.

Honestly, I don't even know what y'all are looking for at this point. What ulterior motive do you think is at work here on the part of Bradley or USSF? What would be its purpose? Who would it serve? People are so eager to pin blame on another human being, they're unable to just shake their fist at the stars and curse fate, which is the only thing that's culpable here.

Its because, as fans, they know better than the trained medical professionals employed by Sochaux and the USSF.

i agree I don't think there was any nefarious reason for leaving Davies off, but it seems short-sighted. He (Davies) would have had almost an entire month to prove his fitness. I think there is about a 2% chance that Findley makes the final 23 so including him over Davies just seems like a waste of time. I'm sure a lot of this has been stated ad naueseum but my internet has been out since Sunday so humor me!

There's really not much to say until preseason starts for Sochaux next year.

Re: Sochaux Sad: The Davies Saga 3

    Word.

Here is my argument plain and clear: It appears that a) the decision to not include Davies was a marginal, last-minute decision, and that b) Sochaux was pushing hard for his exclusion. That leads me to believe that Bradley and the US used Sochaux as the deciding factor in this decision. And that's what really guts me. If he was really that close--so close that Bradley was considering him up until the day before the announcement--then Sochaux deserves the blame for spiking the deal, and BB deserves criticism for being pusillanimous.

For all that Davies has been through, he deserved a shot and a chance at redemption. He is fully justified in his anger at Sochaux. Thus I agree with Ives' conclusion that Sochaux, not the USSF, was the deciding factor in this case. If that's true, then it is a shameful anomaly.

Re: Sochaux Sad: The Davies Saga 3

The thing is, he had a shot. He gave it his all and came up a little short. Its disappointing to us and no doubt a lot more disappointing to him.

The 30 man roster had to be in to FIFA on the May 11. Charlie himself said, he's not 100%. Maybe he could be 100% by June 1 or by June 12. Unfortunately, the rosters had to be in on May 11 and he's not 100%. That's the unfortunate truth. No one is plotting against him. No one is denying him a shot. He wasn't 100% by the day he needed to be 100%.

He'll have to wait a few months longer for his chance at redemption. The Ligue 1 season begins on August 7. I'll be watching and cheering for Chuck D.

Sochaux has a match on Saturday. In the INCREDIBLY unlikely scenario that Charlie plays, when are rosters released?

Pretty sure he's talking about him breaking curfew, Bob had to have a sit down with Charlie about that the first time they met.

Re: Sochaux Sad: The Davies Saga 3

Your position is an intentionally blind one, which pretends we don't know things that we do, and assumes other things unproven.

The reality is that Charlie will likely be 100% before the next World Cup game, per his own words. He is doing full training right now, playing in games now, and is able to do everything he did before. He is not injured, is pain free, and is not doing rehab. He merely needs to improve his fitness a bit to get match fit. Nothing more. He has a high level of fitness right now.

Furthermore, we don't know the position of the USSF medical staff, but Charlie seemed to indicate earlier that they feel that he is fit enough to play. At the highest professional levels, the usual time gap between "fit enough to train" and "fit enough to play" is 2-3 weeks. This time period can be backed up with numerous historical examples. It seems, then, that the failure of Sochaux to grant him a medical release was the deciding factor for Bradley. This idea is backed up by his own words. And we know that the President of Sochaux said one month before that he would not play again for the club this season and said so in a written letter to Bradley. That is called deciding the conclusion before all of the facts are in. Not good.

Clearly Sochaux management are protecting their investment, and have no consideration for his World Cup ambitions. This is neither unusual nor surprising.

We don't know the honest opinion of the Sochaux medical staff, but the official position seems to be at odds with the medical reality. Thus, it is possible that the medical staff was under pressure from management to take a conservative position which was medically unfounded, but in the long term interest of the club.

If Bradley took Davies to camp, he would be at odds with Sochaux, and if CD failed to make the SA team, that would risk causing disruption in the team, taking their eyes off the prize. If Charlie got injured during camp or the WC, Bradley would further irritate Sochaux. There's little doubt these factors also went into Bradley's decision. How much this factored in we do not know, but he is an intelligent man.

    C'est la vie.

Funny how the bleeding hearts all conveniently forget that fact, while pontificating about who's fault it is that CD is not on the roster. CD has no one but himself to blame.

If CD had been in by curfew, he would have been named to the roster, barring injury, and would be getting ready to play in the biggest event in the world next month.

CD decided he would stay out past curfew last October and now finds himself in the situation he currently faces.

    That is KARMA!

You know what exposes this argument as contemptible krap? Because to be consistent, you also have to say Ashley Roberta also has nobody but herself to blame. That's how crazy you (and various other posters) sound to some of us.
