Surprised to see Beauchamp and Holland there but otherwise that's pretty much what I expected. Presence of Oar, Ruka, Vido indicates Pim's seriously worried about that left attacking spot. Will be interesting to see wether Lowry's in the squad as a CB or just backup for Carney and Chippers.

Gotta feel for Spira not making it. Lack of game time probably hurt him. Even if he was only taken for the experience, that would surely be of benefit down the track. Lack of vision from Pim there.

Nathan Burns missing out is a surprise considering his game time and goal scoring in Greece. Probably Holland or Oar (who was picked to sell A-League newspapers) took his place.

Hey Quicky. Is that midfielder "James Holman" any relation to Brett Holman???

Geez we are lacking depth in defense. A few injuries and we'd be in big trouble. Up forward too we lack class. I think this is a much weaker squad than last time around. I think we are very fortunate to have such a strong midfield group including some match winners in Cahill and Kewell.

I think you'd expect Galekovic, Beauchamp, Oar, Holland all cut. North, Lowry, Garcia, Carle, Jedinak and Rukavystya will be fighting for their places before the cull.

I'm dissapointed not to see Spiranovic named ahead of North and Beauchamp especially.

    A line-up like this??:

    ------------------Schwarzer-----------------
    ---------------Milligan----Neill----------------
    -----Williams-------------------Chipperfield---
    -------------Wilkshire----Grella---------------
    ------Emerton------Cahill------Kewell--------
    -------------------Kennedy------------------

The ones in red are the ones I think will get the chop:

El-Caps onto it. It was Brett. Must have been misspelt in the article as I cut and paste.

If the red are the ones you'd cut El-Cap i'd be pretty shattered to see Vidosic dropped. Definitely earnt his place through his performances in qualifying. I'd prefer we left out one of our defensive midfielders.

True- Valeri could go, as Wilkshire can play multiple roles. But I don't think Vido's been getting much game time after his loan move either, so if that's criteria for leaving out the Spiranovic's of our squad, I'm just thinking he won't make it.

Pim's mantra is "fit and playing regularly... unless you're old like Craig Moore... or versatile like Jade North... or have a name that ends in -gnenovski"

    @ El Cap

Why would we drop 9 players and only take 22?

I would put Jedinak ahead of Valeri now, otherwise I think Vidosic will keep his place, or at least battle it out with Carle, Carney, and a few others to avoid the final cut.

    IMO, barring injury:

Galekovic, Holland, Beachamp, Lowry - Definately cut

    Garcia, Oar - Probably Cut

North - Next favourite, but versatility might save him.

Valeri, Carle, Vidosic, McDonald and any injured player battling to avoid last dropped spot.

If Oar, Lowry and Ruka all impress then Carney could go as I would put the others as better left sided players, whether defence in Lowry or attack as in Oar and Ruka.

Team I would like to see:

    [LINEUP-4-3-3]Ruka,Kewell,Emerton,Wilkshire,Cahill,Grella,Chippers,Neil,Milligan,Williams, Schwarzer[/LINEUP-4-3-3]

    What we will probably see:
[LINEUP-4-5-1]Kennedy, Kewell, Emerton, Culina, Cahill, Grella, Chippers, Neil, Moore, Wilkshire, Schwarzer[/LINEUP-4-5-1]

The second line up will NOT work against Germany or Serbia especially but it is more like Pims tried and tested way of doing things.

I am not confident in Pim, or his selection for our team. I BELIEVE in our boys, and that the Australian belief of NEVER SAY NEVER will see us through, but Pim is not going to fight for the win everytime, he is going to play for a draw, and then fly to Morocco at his first chance.

I want someone with the courage as Australia, to fight for every game, and put the BEST team out there, regardless of how the odds maybe against us.

We are going to go through the Round of 16 and beyond, all the way to the final, if Pim has other plans, then he can leave.

WE NEED MORE FIREPOWER, 4 strikers is not enough!!!

John Aliosi?! Why isn't everybody just as upset as I am that ol' johnny isn't in the squad?! Whatever happened to brining Dukes out of retirement? What about that list of young Aussie strikers in that article I posted? What about them?!

Look the only memory I have of Beauchamp (or however you spell his name) is that putzy own-goal he had when we played Paraguay, now my fear is that we are going to get there and he is going to do it AGAIN. That alone is a good reason to keep him home.

Ok this is going to make me sound like such a girl (well I am so deal with it) but I was watching an interview with the olyroos and there was this gourgous young Aussie (Croatian sounding name) shaved head, had gathered alot of attention because he had chosen to play for Australia over Croatia, but enough talent to turn heads. I forgot his name (it was like 3am, the price I pay for being an Aussie in America) BUT WHAT ABOUT HIM?!

It just seems like I care more about our boys and tracking them, watching out for the new Roos, then Pim does!! And I don't get paid to be a loyal fan, he gets paid to 'coach'.

Our first XI would look a lot better with Kisnorbo partnering Neill. :(

As it is, our team is something of a house of cards. On the face of it it doesn't look much weaker than 2006, but we've got nothing on the bench. One injury and we're a severely damaged team - not to mention we lack the super sub factor we had in Germany.

    Oh well. Forza Australia.

I saw a lot of Aloisi the last two years - he had his moments but they were few. He's 35 and if the thought he was up for it he would have gone out on loan.

2006 is four years gone in a month.

Depends on the kids. They have to step up here. And a few of the guys we're carrying need to start scoring *coughScottBrettcough*

Aussie OY, is he cute, but I don't know if it was him? But I would keep him just because he is cute, At this rate we already are better looking than the England team. ;)

    Numerology time.

    I think this is correct:

    1. Schwarzer, 2. Neill, 3. Moore, 4. Cahill, 5. Culina, 6. Beauchamp, 7. Emerton, 8. Wilkshire, 9. Kennedy, 10. Kewell, 11. Chipperfield, 12. Federici, 13. Grella, 14. Holman, 15. Jedinak, 16. Valeri, 17. McDonald, 18. Jones, 19. Garcia, 20. Milligan, 21. Carney, 22. Williams, 23. Bresciano, 24. Galekovic, 25. Vidosic, 26. Lowry? 27. North, 28. Holland? 29. Carle, 30. Oar, 31. Rukavytsya.

Interesting things: Beauchamp gets 6. compared with Lowry's 26. and North's 27... mark of seniority or reveal of the pecking order going into training?
