From Goff: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2010/04/hurt_by_the_global_economic.html Looks like he's trained with Marseille at least since May of last year. Not sure how long he stayed though. http://www.eteamz.com/broadrunners/ Our U-20s will play in the Cor Groenewegen Tournament in Uitgeest, Holland starting on May 22nd.
Re: Lester Dewee to France Good deal - another one to have a look at -- heres his twitter http://twitter.com/Lonestarkid11
Re: Lester Dewee to France According to his twitter he was in France as late as March 20th and possibly was there this week though he vaguely just mentions "training" Heres a pic of him in his Marseille trainer - quality
Re: Lester Dewee to France New article and interview on Lester over at Yanks Abroad. Some very interesting stuff. http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=6164
Re: Lester Dewee to France Awesome stuff bshredder! Great to hear interest from Bordeaux, would be a nice place to develop.
Re: Lester Dewee to France Bordeaux was also linked to Ethan White, who was a freshman at Maryland this year, while he was in high school. I wonder if they have a representative in the D.C. area.
Re: Lester Dewee to France The YA article says he doesn't have a second nationality. I know France has non EU player rules. I'm not sure about Ligue 1 but I know Ligue 2 allows 2 non EU players for the first team and I believe 4 non EU players for the reserves.
Re: Lester Dewee to France Ligue 1 rules are kind of complicated, they recognize Cotonou Agreement countries and other accord partners with the EU. Then their are the 4 actual foreign player spots. http://www.lfp.fr/reglements/pdf/charte/2008_2009/3.pdf for any French speakers, starting page 40 it goes over the specifics.
Re: Lester Dewee to France Looks like the kid is officially at Marseille. He was called up to the U.S. U-20's for a tournament in Holland and they have him listed at Marseille: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-20-MNT/2010/05/Rongen-Finalizes-Cor-Groenewegan-Roster.aspx Roster By Position: GOALKEEPERS (2): Samir Badr (FC Porto; Fairfax, Va.), Cody Cropper (Ipswich Town; Athens, Ga.) DEFENDERS (7): Gale Agbossoumonde (SC Braga; Syracuse, N.Y.), Chad Barson (Akron; Lewis Center, Ohio), Bryan De La Fuente (Chivas USA Academy; Bell, Calif.), Perry Kitchen (Akron, Indianapolis, Ind.), Kofi Sarkodie (Akron; Huber Heights, Ohio), Zarek Valentin (Akron; Lancaster, Pa.), Parker Walsh (1860 Munich; Irvine, Calif.) MIDFIELDERS (8): Erik Benjaminsen (Stabæk; Sandvika, Norway), Lester Dewee (Olympique de Marseille; Kensington, Md.), Bryan Dominguez (Miami FC; Atlanta, Ga.), Alex Molano (Dinamo Zagreb; Grapevine, Texas), Amobi Okugo (Philadelphia Union; Sacramento, Calif.), Moises Orozco (Real So Cal; Oxnard, Calif.), George Pantelic (FK RAD Belgrade; Woodland Hills, Calif.), Cesar Zamora (Chivas USA; Sylmar, Calif.) FORWARDS (3): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls; Barnegat, N.J.), Jack McInerney (Philadelphia Union; Alpharetta, Ga.), Bobby Wood (1860 Munich; Irvine, Calif.)
Re: Lester Dewee to France Sweet the roster is out! Man a young American at Marseille. This is exciting!
Re: Lester Dewee to France Liberian passported players should count as local under the Cotonou Accord. 79 nations total http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African,_Caribbean_and_Pacific_Group_of_States#Africa West Africa group (ECOWAS plus Mauritania) * Benin * Burkina Faso * Cape Verde * Côte d'Ivoire * Togo * Gambia * Ghana * Guinea * Guinea-Bissau * Liberia * Niger * Nigeria * Senegal * Sierra Leone * Mali * Mauritania
Re: Lester Dewee to France Well, they listed Moises Orozco at Tigres for the Dallas Cup roster, but that turned out to be unofficial. Hopefully it's final but US soccer press releases can't be taken as a definitive source.
Re: Lester Dewee to Olympique de Marseille Any update? Don't see him listed on the Marseille site but I don't know how accurate that is, they only have 16 players listed for their U18/U19 roster. Through his Twitter, it looks like he might've been battling an injury.
Re: Lester Dewee to France In 2008, the EU changed its reading of the Cotonou Agreement (the Association Agreement between the EU and the ACP countries).[6] It now stated that the Cotonou agreement should not be interpreted as mandating free movement of labour, but rather the free trade of goods and services. The Home Office were subsequently able to introduce new rules placing restrictions on Kolpak players, stating that only those who had held a valid work permit for four years had the right to be treated the same as EU citizens.[5] from wikipedia
Re: Lester Dewee to France So, at worst, this will be like the Spanish "Queen Isabella" rules for the Spanish-Portuguese speaking players from Central-South America. At best, league can choose to interpret these rules at their wont.
Re: Lester Dewee to France the league can do whatever it wants, but the cotonou agreement doesn't give anyone the right to work in the eu.
Re: Lester Dewee to Olympique de Marseille Interesting that this guy doesnt seem to be in the running anymore for the U20s. Marseille is a pretty good place to be.
Re: Lester Dewee to Olympique de Marseille My suspicion is that he never signed with Marseille. He is not listed on the roster of their reserve team or youth teams. US Soccer also has a habit of listing players with clubs with whom they are only trialing.
Re: Lester Dewee to France He's talkign about eating Chipotle and watchign Jersey Shore on his twitter, so its safe to say he's somewhere in USA.
