Letting your selves get strapped in for the biggest rollercoaster ride hey? Ah well, you can't help it if you've been chosen ;)

But will you feel the same way after Donovan leaves? I was a United Fan when I first started watching The EPL.. Cantona, Keane, Giggs, Becks.. They were so much fun to watch. But then I stayed with a friend in England and he showed me the beauty of rooting for Manchester City, so I gravitated towards them. I am a huge fan of The Nats however, and so a few weeks ago when City played Everton (as well as when Everton played United this weekend), I rooted for our two boys on that squad as if I were rooting for The Nats themselves.. And let's face it: If Donovan and Howard switched sides and were playing for United tomorrow, would I be rooting for them? You bet your ar$e I would.

I've fallen for Everton as well.

The minute LD is bought I'm buying a royal blue #9 jersey.

The thing is, different clubs attract different types of people. Each club has a different ethos, how they do things, how the fans are treated, etc.

With us, it's not a choice you make - Everton chooses you ;)

My dad is from a family of Spurs fans (he is from down south), he rooted for them and moved up here for university. He went to watch Liverpool one week, Everton the next, but was more red than blue. One game, Everton got beat heavily by Liverpool at Goodison - he felt sick, he was totally disconsolate. At that moment he realised he was a blue, and he has been ever since.

I questioned whether I would support Everton once Ld left. I think the question is Yes. Hell, I've been a White Sox fan since I was little. They don't spend as much as the Yankees but do OK and they are the 2nd team in the second city. So I have a little martyr in me. Plus, Moyes is arguably one of the best tacticians in the league. His 2 late subs score against man utd and Everton beat man utd and chelsea in back to back league matches.

I, as well, have fallen for Everton. I always enjoyed them pre Donovan due to Timmy and because Moyes looks like what I imagine my old childhood best friend would look like as an adult. But I have been closely following Fulham because of Deuce [and BMB and Boca before him] and when Fulham and Everton match up, I will be seriously conflicted.

Actually, I just couldn't. I would want them to have great matches but United to lose. Can't help it.

My team is Arsenal simply from watching them over the last 10+ years. I got Bergkamp on my jersey I bought on my visit last April. :D However, with Dempsey at Fulham and now LD at Everton, the charm of supporting these smaller clubs is obvious (and they are far less hated by their rivals). I would highly recommend taking in a match at Fulham for anybody making a trip over there--whether or not Demps is playing. There are high school football stadiums in Texas twice as big.

Ouch, hearing that hurts...We know we aren't a massive club anymore but we have a history that is almost unrivalled(save a few) in England and a LOT of people don't see Everton for what it truly is until they do some digging or even get here and see it and feel it for yourself.

Hurts hearing us compared with Fulham, no disrespect to Fulham like!, but I guess that is modern football for you.

I've seen a few posts asking about how a strike might affect LD, but I haven't seen this question...

Would the union expect loan players to go on strike as well?

I don't know how the loan deals are structured and wondered if this would be a factor. Is there any way LD not playing at Everton would impact MLS/ Galaxy so that the union would want him not to play?

Did anyone tell Moyes about the Swine Flu Derby down in Mexico City last August?

Seriously. Onstad was slow off his line, wasn't he? We win that game, we go on to win the championship and there is no way we get moved. No way.

well, seeing as he wouldn't be getting paid by MLS, and he certainly wouldn't be crossing any line to get to training, I don't see how the union would see this as working against their best interests. He's shown solidarity thus far.
I mean, it's a bit like fiddling while Rome burns, but fiddling in Paris, where no can hear you.
And, i've known union guys who've gotten other jobs while a strike is going on. Not sure if miss manners would approve, but...

    Indeed it is.

9 League Titles - more than all but Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, more seasons in the top division than any other club, founder members of the first football league in the world, first team to wear numbered shirts, first purpose built stadium, spread football to South America....

We've just had a relatively lean 20 years (pretty much ever since I got hooked....)

I'm loving LD's time at Everton and normally I'd be all over getting a jersey even if his stay is not extended....but I just can't get over how ugly the jersey is, the white bib just kills it for me and the pink in the away may be worse.

I'm hoping he will be there next season and the jerseys improve dramatically.

Hey there, just a cultural question. Is there a geographical, political or physical Everton within Liverpool? Is it a part of the city? The Town on the Ever?

Is there anything that distinguishes an Evertonian from a Liverpudlian other than Blue vs Red, or is it just footie related?

Do the Beatles come from your town, too?

    Any speech differences?

    Cheers!

I did not know that. Cool.

I did know about the "more seasons in the top division than any other club" part, though.

    I'm sure Arteta's Girl will respond too....but

Everton is an area within the city of Liverpool although we've never played in that district since we became an organised club. The club was formed in 1878 and is one of the oldest football clubs in the world. We originally played at Anfield but the landlord wanted to take the club into private ownership and run it is a business, the members rejected the plan and issued shares to their fan base instead. They then built Goodison Park and moved in there.

The old landlord then tried unsuccesfully to steal the name Everton before then going on to form some franchise he eventually named Liverpool FC. The two grounds are within spitting distance (I generally try each time I pass Anfield!)

In terms of differences, apart from Evertonians being better looking, more intelligent and smelling much nicer we are fairly similar. It is one of the few cities where families are split with some blue and some red and most of us have mates who are reds.

The Beatles are indeed from the city with Paul McCartney being a confirmed Blue and the others not really being into football.

The accents are slightly different with Everton fans sounding scouse and Liverpool fans having a more scandanavian accent (this is a joke on merseyside - due to Liverpool's success they have attracted a lot of fans from around the world (the whole of Norway for some reason!) whilst our fanbase is generally more locally based - although we do have lots of international and nation wide support too)

Landon's number 9 shirt is legendary at the club.

Dixie Dean - the Babe Ruth of football - was the first to wear it (1933 FA cup final which was the first game with shirt numbers). We have a statue of him outside the ground, he scored 60 league goals (100 in all competitions) in one season once, a record that may never be broken.
