Yeah, Mendes just seems to be a luxury at times, good player but doesnt have the engine I think. Getting him of the books means new contract for Boydie
Would happily see Mendes leave if it finances a new contract for Boyd. Good player but far too often a luxury we can't afford.
I'd like to see everyone stay until at least the summer. It makes no sense to let anyone go at the moment.
Still makes no sense to do it now. It's much better to wait until the end of the season to look at the money situation. Do we want to start selling players now and see attendance drop and lose more money that way? Look at the way Celtic's crowds have dropped this season. I think there average attendance is lower than ours and they have 10,000 more seats. I take all of this with a pinch of salt as I heard the exact same stuff last Jan. We need to sell. We're going under. Blah, blah, blah.
So Boyd will probably be out for 6 weeks. Not good at all. I'd go as far to say as this could lose us the league. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/8450831.stm
i was thinking that myself, but celtic have mcdonald out, and they are just awful! however i think out period of form is well and truely over, i'm not confident of either old firm side going into any game now.
The do look poor. It will be interesting though. So far to me it looks like they have sold natural leaders on the pitch and replaced them with players that are totally unknown to me. It will be interesting to see what kind of team Sellick are when the transfer window shuts. I just hope they keep Loovens! He is a bombscare. Anyway again we do not look to be in the best of form. We still keep winning though. As soon as we lose any players that are in form we struggle. It's going to be the way for the rest of the season.
thought we played not too bad last night. made loads of chances and had all the possesion. cherny had some game. thought that was the best i've seen fleck play in the first team. papac is the man! keep it together at the back, and grab a few goals from midfield will hopfuly see us through our injury stricken period.
Rangers 1 - 1 Hearts Substitute Andrew Little scored in stoppage time for Rangers to rescue a point for the Scottish Premier League leaders against 10-man Hearts at Ibrox. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/8473830.stm ________________________ Good news on the injury front as Beasley and Naismith may be back: http://www.rangers.premiumtv.co.uk/...or-gers-20100123_2254024_1942211/0,,5,00.html _______________________ Meanwhile, Jerome Rothen has left for Turkish side Ankaragucu. St Mirren v Rangers Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League Venue: St Mirren Park Date: Wednesday 27 January Kick-off: 1945 GMT Coverage: Live on BBC Radio Scotland, also available via BBC Sport website. Highlights on BBC Sport website St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson has no fresh injury or suspension worries to contend with. Chris Smith and Tom Brighton remain on the long-term injured list, while Dennis Wyness and Mo Camara have been told they have no future at the club. Rangers are boosted by the return of Kenny Miller, Steven Naismith, Nacho Novo and Pedro Mendes. DaMarcus Beasley should be fit for the weekend but his fellow American Maurice Edu and striker Kris Boyd remain out. St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson: "Kris Boyd would be a big miss for any team, not just Rangers. "When he was at Kilmarnock and was missing, he was a big loss for them too. But Rangers are a team with quality players. "You just have to look at the game against Hearts at the weekend when the boy Andrew Little came on and scored. "They have a strong squad, albeit they have some injuries at the moment, and they have youngsters who are keen to show what they can do. "We have one or two injuries too and we just want a team on the park who can compete after the disappointment of the game at the weekend." Rangers manager Walter Smith: "I think St Mirren are a very well settled team. "They set out their stall and make it difficult to play against them. That has been the secret of the success they have achieved since getting into the Premier Division. "They have moved to a new stadium, their training ground is in place and they have avoided any great financial hardship. "Usually that means that the manager has not had a great deal of money to spend on the team so in my eyes that is a good indication of the job Gus MacPherson has done there." Dundee have signed Rangers youngster Andrew Shinnie for a second time on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old Aberdeen-born player made 20 appearances for Dundee last season after joining Jocky Scott's side in November 2008. Midfielder Shinnie, who has made two first-team starts for Rangers, is a former captain of the Ibrox club's Under-19 side. Shinnie has won two caps for Scotland at under-21 level, scoring once.
Looks like Mendes could be on his way. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/8487232.stm
For those of you who can't be ersed reading it, the jist of it is that Mendes is off to Sporting Lisbon, and with the wages freed up by the departure of him and Jerome Rothen, we now have the scope to sign new player(s), probably on loan. Smith says that the wide areas are a priority. I know we have a title to win but I'd rather use the money to finance a new contract for Boyd and give the likes of Archie Campbell, Kal Naismith and Jamie Ness a chance with the first team. Obviously not starting, but coming off the bench at Ibrox with 10/15mins to go wouldn't do them any harm. That's the route we need to go down, not spending money on new players, as even those coming in on loan/bosman are likely to command far higher wages than the youngsters.
aye, damarcus beasley's car has been petrol bombed http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/DaMarcus-Beasley-car-fire-was.6037185.jp
Hopefully Strathclyde Police's finest get the arseholes that did it but I wont hold my breath. Was it actually petrol bombed or set alight some other way? First I'd read about it. p.s. What did this have to do with the transfer window that I was obviously alluding too?
Been posted in the Beasley thread on the YA forum. I don't like making sweeping statement about Celtic fans based on this incident as many of our fans are hardly angels when it comes to harrassing Celtic players. It may well have been an isolated incident, although it is likely that Celtic fans identified it as Beasley's and decided to torch it. It's all too easy for OF fans to look at incidents like this and say "huns/tims are feckin scum" till they're blue in the face, but sadly this is Glasgow we're talking about. It could have been Rangers fans for all we know. If I played for Rangers or Celtic I'd make sure I lived well outside the Greater Glasgow area.
