Should be a great game between 2 historic teams. Will probably get huge TV ratings mostly because its Henry and because at least in the Americas, its the first game at a normal time.

    Uruguay 2
    France 1

i hope france continues with their 4-3-3

uruguay has some deadly weapons also - Luis Suarez, Cristian Rodrigues, Diego Forlan, Nick Lodeiro (one of my picks for young player of the tournament).

i think this match can be one of the top matches of the group stage....

cristian rodriguez will be suspended for this game, with lodeiro most likely taking his spot. But unless he absolutely shines there, Rodriguez will most likely be back in against South Africa

If Lodeiro has a solid clausura/libertadores he will play the world cup. He's young, but he is the top play maker Uruguay has in form.

I love cebolla rodriguez but he has lost the ability to keep his cool, silly red card against Argentina and now the brawl he and Fucile got into in Portugal after Porto v. Benefica with some security gaurd, bad news.

Lodeiro Plays. Maybe Rodriguez plays in place of Alvaro "Palito" Perriera???

This game has 0-0 written all over it.

France has trouble scoring goals and allows very few.

Both teams will think they can beat S. Africa and at least tie Mexico for five points to get to the next round.

Both teams did just enough to get into 2010.

    Neither will risk anything.

I love Pereira. He brings some much needed speed to our team. I don't know about Lodeiro. He is so damn young. El Cebolla just organizes the team, distributes the ball so well. I don't know if Lodeiro can do that yet. Sometimes he is the only one trying. The other player I love but has almost no chance is Cavani. He does great in Italy, I loved him in the U-20 in '07, and has done awesome in the seleccion when given a chance, but unless there's an injury, which I pray to god that it doesn't happen, I don't see him playing.

Also, who will the starting goalie be? I think Muslera has the edge because he is the last to start for us, he plays in a more competitive league, and Castillo hasn't played in awhile. Let's see if he gets some playing time in Cali. I don't know why he lost the starting spot. He did fine in every game. He sort of cost us one goal against Colombia, but it wasn't entirely his fault.

And for the 3rd spot I would love Sebastian Sosa from Penarol. The young man is one of the best goalies I have been able to see live.

Exactly how I see it. I just added the 1 in our favor cause Im a homer. Last 2 times they've played, its been 0-0. And your analysis on the 5 points is exactly right. I think somebody makes a mistake along the way which leads to a goal.

anyone here actually going to the game? i plan on going with a few friends. looking at the map; i'm either a 30 minute walk to the stadium or 10 minute cab ride.

message me if you're going to the game or are trying to go to the game. maybe a bunch of us can meet at a pub or fan fest area for the opening game and then head over to the stadium to watch the game.

won't be able to help you out with the airplane ride, but as of now i have 2 available tickets for the game.

where in sofla do you live? i live in boca raton, but work in miami (doral-zuela)

i got the tickets in the first lottery phase - so basically i got real lucky.

as an arsenal supporter it's hard to root against the french but with uruguay there are players like Luis Suarez who is awesome yet under the radar (from a mainstream perspective) and Lodeiro was amazing in the U-20 south american tournament - i watched several of those games on golTV.

if the game ends up 2-2 - i'll be happy

haha. I can't go anyways. Going to 2014 for sure as long as Uruguay goes.

    I live in Westonzuela.

You are the only Colombian I've met so far who supports Uruguay the slightest bit. Most who I know hate us(because they know me, not that Im a bad person).

The U-20 was awesome. Too bad we had to face Brazil in the round of 16. We had a team to make it to the finals.

    Have fun at the game

as much as i love colombian futbol, i gotta give credit when it's due and with uruguay there are a few players who stand out and have great futures ahead of them - i guess i'm just more of an objective fan....

In my opinion, its going to be the best match of the day. Happy to see that Diarra isn't playing, but France still has a great squad. Feeling pretty confident as we always play well against good teams and shitty against shitty teams. Both teams will probably go seek a win, but by the end, since its going to be a tight game, and the score is going to be 0-0 late in the game probably, both teams will settle for a tie and play not to lose. Why?
Because in this group, losing kills you as it means the other team wins 3 points. And I believe at the end of the group stage, we are going to have 2 or more teams with the same amount of points. So every point will count

Uruguay to kick Ribery and Gourcuff constantly and Forlan to score.

    I see that you're Australian;)

In honesty, Uruguay isn't a dirty team at all. They just portray us to be one. Uruguay's players, other than in the WC maybe, don't give a damn, as they don't want to risk an injury playing for the NT.

So what makes you say that we will kick Ribery and Gourcuff? When we have a great defense and great defensive midfielders?

Throughout the qualifiers, in the 18 games, we had 20 goals against. And that includes the 4-0 defeat against Brazil at home with a goalie that will probably never set foot in the country again.

I'm an Australian with Italian and Filipino heritage. I'll be going for the Azzurri at the World Cup though.

I'm just being stereotypical. I don't want to see Uruguay just kicking and diving. It may seem contradicting being an Azzurri fan but if you guys focused on keeping possession and attacking, I think Uruguay will get out of the group stage. If Uruguay play their stereotypical way, they won't and it would a shame because the likes of Martinez, Forlan and Cavani are players I like to watch. It seems that Abreu will start in attack though.

Will Muslera play in goal or is he a reserve?

Muslera will start in goal, and Forlan-Suarez is practically a given in attack. Abreu came on as a sub. throughout most of qualifying (still managed 6 goals though).

Martinez, Cavani, and Abreu are all subs. Cavani is like my favorite player on the team. Also, Muslera starts.

We're appaerently playing with 3 backs and probably A LOT of midfielders, with most of them being defensive. That should help in keeping posession

I cannot wait. I am going to be a nervous wreck this entire week. And I cannot imagine during the game. My ENTIRE family will be at my house since they're all visiting, but I think I will just lock myself up in my room, lol.

    1) Preposition game snacks/drinks in room.
    2) Preposition fresh batteries for remote in room.
    3) Lock door at game time.

Uruguay wins this one 2-0. France are a mess.

    4) Unlock door after game and enjoy a relaxing evening basking in your side's victory

Keep in mind, when these 2 play, they will now how south Africa has done against Mexico.

If South Africa defeats or ties Mexico, both team might be happy to share the points. if Mexico wins by good margin, then both team may view this is play-off and and will try to win and we will have good match, could still end up in a tie.

France despite of bad results has seem to have found the right formation.
So Domenic unintentionally (due to Diarra's illness) has somehow stumbled to a working formation.
They have gone from lot of possession to no creativity, to lots of creativity but poor finishing.

Only question mark has been Guvo's performance, but he may still come good. HE along with Ribery are sort of players who are not afraid of taking on the defenders.

Anyway they are my pick to win the whole thing, so they better not make mess of it.
