    Hello there!

I did not want to start a new thread just to ask this but I was wondering if FSC has any plans to go HD. And if so, is there a projected date for that?

Many thanks in advance for any info.

Yes, in early 2010. I believe the only promise on a date they've made is prior to the UEFA Champions League Eighth Finals.

Can't wait for Euro HD. Got spoiled fast with U.S. Sports in HD, especially hockey. We have had ours for just over a year. It's painful in comparison to watch European broadcast in what seems to be worse then regular TV. Thought it was PAL conversion issue....really no idea.

Can only imagine how great games would be with really good American Style coverage. We may not play soccer well but we have the best television crews on the face of this planet.

I should have written down which game itt was but there are some good premire crews would good fast pertinent replays.

The one biggest thing to get more Americans watching U.S. soccer on TV would be British and Scotish announcers. Some true heartfelt animation from a pasionate believer.

Not showing these games in HD must make it a bit more difficult to sell advertisments. That has to effect production values. All in all I'm glad there is a soccer channel.

I do hate having to support anything to do with that fat as swipe Rupert.....worse then a bad ref that one he is.

Do they just not have the HD in Europe?

FSC started airing highlights of the Spurs/Wigan match after the Juventus game...like ten minutes before the tape-delayed premiere on the network! I managed to run out of the room before hearing anything important, but Christ. Send an angry email?

I like how Christian Miles mentioned before the start of the AC-Cagliari 2nd half that Massimmo Ambrosini was just brought on to "add more steel" to Milan's midfield. He started the match and was highly involved throughout the first half, Christian!

    Kind of annoying. :p

Contrasting approaches to the start of English Premier League matches:

ESPN2: Have Derek Rae and Tommy Smyth intro for a minute, then throw it to the international broadcast for their 5 minute lead in.

FSC (for the late game): Have Christian Miles and Warren Barton on for a half-hour before, but don't throw to the game until a couple minutes before, then have Nick Webster talk right up to the opening whistle. What is Webster going to say that Miles and Barton couldn't say in the previous 28 minutes?

During half time of Arsenal v Stoke, Christian Miles was promoting tomorrow's games on Setanta. He noted that the broadcast of Fulham v Sunderland begins at 8:55 ET, then made some comment about those wonderful kickoff times.

He is obviously completely clueless about the concept of starting the broadcast 5 minutes early so you can carry the lead-in from the international coverage.

Christian Miles clueless about something? That doesn't surprise me.

I didn't hear the remarks in question, but isn't it possible he was simply making the traditional joke about the early hour (which is especially early in his neck of the woods, Pacific time)?

Just FYI, by the way: The Fulham broadcast on Sunday is actually 9:55 a.m. Eastern.

Wow! Nick Webster blabbed throughout the entire pre-game festivities of the Roma-Lazio match! Totally ruined any chance we had at absorbing the atmosphere at the Stadio Olympico.

I hate how they blabber all the way up until two seconds before kickoff. I love how ESPN actually shows the players walking out onto the pitch and you get to hear the commentators for five minutes before kickoff. Too bad FSC is too busy getting in one more pimple ad or that one that uses over the top accents to sell you on international calls for two cents a minute.

that's how they pay for broadcast rights. ESPN has deeper pockets and longer term ambitions.

As long as I can see the game I don't care. The commercials can be garbage, the commentators can be garbage, but as long as I can see the game, I'm happy, because that's all I'm really there for anyway.

speaking of Serie A, I've come to understand that the Milan Fiorentina match was postponed, but I'm not sure how FSC approached it? All I know is I look up and Premier League World is running. How did all that go down?

At 2:30 they showed the Serie A lead-in and a voice-over, I think it was Christian Myles, explained that they were sorry but the match was postponed. He also said that PL World would be shown instead. Not really sure how else it could have been handled.

Yeah, there's nothing FSC could do in this situation unless they knew well in advance that the game was postponed. But if Myles was doing a lead-in then it was probably late news for FSC as well. FSE, which was scheduled to show the game on 30 minute delay (maybe 1 hour, can't remember for sure), just showed Arsenal-Hull (again?).

In terms of recent comments on this page of this thread, I would prefer that we had more lead-in from the commentators. The international feed announcers don't mention their network (and often it is just the UK production company so there is no network to mention), which means there is no advantage to using in-house announcers (i.e., FSC doesn't have to worry about a bunch of Sky talk or ESPN talk confusing FSC viewers). But in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather have international English feed announcers with in-house set-up then in-house announcers for the entire game. This is obviously progress compared to years past when Myles, Bretos, and Hopkins did all games except the English top flight. As far as commercials are concerned, they can fill the pre-game, half-time, and post-game with 99.9% commercials for all I care. This programming isn't free for them; they need to make money somehow and the advertising allows for uninterrupted games. Anybody remember pre-1994 WC in the USA? Commercial interruptions were the norm. So putting logos on the screen and telling us that this part of the game is sponsored by product X is fine as long as the logo isn't too big and the game is complete. And ads prior to or after the game do not bother me at all. It does suck that the products aren't products that I need. I would gladly support companies that advertise on Setanta, FSC, and Gol. If I had a hair cut that merited product I would have bought that salon stuff that dude from Beverly Hills was hawking or maybe if I go through an identity crisis when my hair falls out, I will seek out Bosley. But right now they aren't selling anything I need.
