Good win today. I liked out defense. Pieters looked very dangerous going forward today, provided a very nice cross for Toivonen to head home for the winner...looks we have quite the title race on our hands.

Afellay has been fabulous so far, incredible player and if he can keep this form, he will turn out to be a decent player for every European team. Learned to work his ass off, became a great playmaker and adds a fantastic dribble to those qualities.

Unique, unique player. Can play as defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder and winger.

His strength is also his weakness.
He wants to dribble to often.

But he is a class player and the only "individual topper" with Suarez in the Eredivisie.

Has improved a lot on that aspect since he plays as defensive midfielder. Was an individualist last year, is a true team player this year.

A real pleasure to see this guy play, he's not weaker than Vd. Vaart and Sneijder when they left AFC Ajax. I even dare to say that this Afellay is better than the Sneijder when he played for AFC Ajax.

Different type of player though, Sneijder scores more and easier.

But i dont think Afellay should concentrate on the role of defensive midfielder.
His lack of power for that position is a keyfactor why he isnt suitable for a European topteam like Manchester United or Barcelona.
As an attacking midfielder / wingmidfielder he got the ability for a European topclub.

And Afellay is also 1 year older as Sneijder was in his last Dutch Eredivisie season.

Power? Does Fabregas has power? Does Xavi has power?

The reason why Afellay is so interesting for big teams, is the fact that he's allround. You can use him as a player on the flanks, as attacking midfielder and as defensive midfielder. Likes as vd. Vaart and Sneijder are more specialized on 1 single position.

Fabregas and Xavi are both 200% more skilled then Afellay is.

That's a different argument/opinion, but that directly proves that you don't need power to be a defensive midfielder, what you claimed to be a key-factor.

It's not a key-factor. It's one of the many factors what make a players suitable for a certain position. Afellay doesn't have that one and still makes to many mistakes to be useful for a big team but! he has the potential to become useful.

And agree with you, expect Afellay to end up as a "fake" winger for a big team.

    True.

If you haven't got the talent like Iniesta, Xavi and Fabregas u need a fysical compensation for the defensive midfielder spot.

BTW, Xavi/Iniesta isnt playing a real defensive midfielder role. Thats Yaya Toure or Busquets.

Meanwhile you've got your current success to thank to two Twente people. So congrats on your ability to pay your coaches twice as much as Twente can as that's what it comes down to. And still you're not top of the league. Hmm.

    What's your point?

PSV is still bigger than Twente, learn to live with it till it changes (what's possible over a long period, let say 10/15 years)

And, we never took Fred Rutten away from you guys. Well, not this time. We took him, gave him back, went to Schalke, we got him back.

    So,

    Twente -> PSV -> Twente -> Schalke -> PSV

And yes, Ten Hag went to PSV. What's wrong with that? An assistant can change jobs. Rules of nature. Small fish got eaten by big fish. Their is only one certain way for a small fish to beat that big fish. Eat much healty smaller fishes to get bigger than the big fish so that you can eat the big fish yourself. Or be innovative/smart at times, but that will not increase the size of the fish, that's temporarily.

He might be a great talent (Altho he is already 23 years old, so he might not even be a talent anymore) but Xavi and Fabregas are both way better then Afellay.

Way better? Better, not way better. Iniesta is way better. Doubt Afellay will ever reach the level of Xavi and Fabregas though.

Afellay can become as good as (or slightly better than) Sneijder/Vd. Vaart.

It's a shame that his shot is still average, has trained a lot on it and has improved a lot. But it's still horrible compared to Sneijder/Vd. Vaart.

My point is that Hiddink advised PSV to get Rutten to follow in his footsteps but they wanted a proven manager so got Stevens instead. Then Stevens turns out to be bollix and Rutten proves himself at Twente, so then Rutten's all of a sudden good enough for PSV. Same goes for Ten Hag. I know this is hardly new and that all clubs are at it but I find it hard to respect PSV for trying to copy the Twente success formula. If Twente are that small and insignificant a club then why do the mighty PSV need to copy them? Zwaktebod is my word for it. At least unlike Ajax you did manage to get the right Twente people, I'll give you that.

Read what I say, I say I doubt Afellay will ever reach their level. I do say they are better, but way better? Way better is the difference in level between Nicky Hofs and Afellay, thát way better. And is it unrealistic to say that Afellay can become as good as Vd. Vaart/Sneijder? Does that mean I'm a fanboy? That's not unrealistic, thát's realistic.

And Neeskens, you're completely right. But it's not wrong to copy others. You copied Heerenveen (source: Münstermann), but is that a bad thing? Life is copying and improve the thing you copied. You can see that everywhere in history. Only the real brilliant people can invent a new and much better policy. You can't expect Reker to come up with a genious idea, the best thing he can do is copying and I'm glad he did thát well.

    And you've made a mistake.

After Hiddink went, he advised us to promote Rutten to head coach. The board wanted a more experienced trainer and got Koeman. After Koeman got fired, Reker asked Rutten and acted like an idiot. Saying to the team that Rutten will be their next coach without ever have talked with him. Rutten refuged and wanted to stay at Twente, PSV got Vergoossen and chosed for Stevens. Terrible decision, but that can happen.

Stevens got fired, we got Lodeweges and in the end Rutten.

You're not insignificant, we're not mighty. But we dó have more money ánd we dó have a better reputation at thís moment. That's something that can change, but that will take some years. Won't be that suprised if it happens, your management is fantastic!

I know all of that and to some extent I understand but you can probably understand why it's all somewhat annoying to a Twente fan esp as these aren't 'passanten' but real Twente people.

Yes he is. And its not even close.

Oh and PSV fans. congrats on the win last night. But I think anybody who saw the game will agree that 3 points was VERY generous. I dont it becomes a club like PSV to start "rekken" in the 77th minute.
