I homebrew as well. I'd be happy to do some "contract brewing" to support the cause =). (I voted for Ale btw)
Damn! At this rate, labled/club approved or not, there should be at least a half dozen chilled pitchers worth of triple A by next April, being passed around at the tailgating in Peaze of course.
I actually just put an amber ale (and an IPA) in to primary fermentation on Sat evening. I'll let you guys know how it tastes (won't know till about halloween-ish). I can provide the notes to whoever wants em so you can do a taste test down there as well...
Oh beer. Finally a fun topic to run on about.. Scooter Pete and I will happily toil away. I need an excuse to brew. I'm a lazy brewer. Kevin over at 512 is a great guy and has a nice brewery. Also impressive is Independence's brewery. Go do their tour. They have a bar in the brewery with couches and a disc golf basket. You might have small chance in getting some support from places like LoveJoy's or Uncle Billy's. For example, I think Lovejoy's does pretty small batches, like 100 gallons. Seems more likely willing to do a small contract? I don't know about the Drafthouse as I haven't been there much in a long time. I love Real Ale...anyday. But, yeah something about them not technically being in Austin ruins it for me. Same would go for a beer brewed in Round Rock. I'll drink it but don't name it for Austin's team. I really hope one of Austin's breweries considers this. They would be following in the fine footsteps of Six Point in Brooklyn who carry "special" batch beers all across Brooklyn and Manhattan. So basically they would brew a special recipe for one bar upon their request so that bar/pub could claim you can't get that beer anywhere else. They also carried a standard line. Damn I miss the Brooklyn Brownstone and the Bengali Tiger :-( Like Live Oak, they don't bottle. BTW, I think I heard some folks at the banquet mention maybe doing some pick up soccer at Zilker (the grass there is awesome) on the new "great lawn" and bringing some..umm..cups..try not to get a ticket..you can't beat the downtown view. We can get a bocce ball set or something too. Maybe some lawn darts..put some eyes out and all that. All within walking distance of Uncle Billy's. As for names, this could be fun. I don't have one beer I drink. I love brown ales in the right weather. Imperial stout in the winter and IPA's all the rest of the year. I'm not volunteering to do any lagers or pilsners. Lagers take a lot more time and space in your fridge to finish. We can turn around an ale in a month. That gives us all sorts of fun varieties: - Marching Red Ale - Potters Pudding Stout - Stoked-on-Shoal Creek IPA - Chantico's House Pale (maybe we can put some paprika or agave in it as an adjunct?) - Inchy Stout (just had to type "Inchy") - LSD Rye (could have fun with the label and give a tip of the hat to our LSD friends) - Oatcake Stout (yummm oatmeal) - House Park Special Bitter - 4-4-2 (was mentioned at the banquet)..ask Kevin at 512? Other non-beer drinks are also fun. I've made cider countless times for my wife. It's a breeze to make but not as cheap to make as beer (for me). I also like mead. But, you DO have to wait for that to finish, like a year. How about "Defensive Mead"?
Awesome. Never played but assume very similar to bocce. There was a place called Pit Stop in Brooklyn that had a petanque court and I never made it over there: http://www.brooklynpetanque.org/ Academy sells bocce sets and a friend of mine has one and has offered it on borrow. K
No one's forgotten. I know of at least one person who is planning on a test batch, and I believe there's another I believe who is running a parallel batch. We've gotten the "OK" from Phil to use the Aztex name, so the "Aztex Amber Ale" is still in the running. There was some good natured joking at the End of Year Awards dinner about alternatives.
Keep the AAA, that's was MY idea!!! I mean that wasn't the only reason to keep it. Ambers are pretty awesome beers and well the Aztex are "red" after all. Can't wait to see how the test brews come out. Love to promo it all on my site.
shweetSounds like all is well on the yeasting front. I can here it now. Soccer Sceptic: "Well I don't really like soccer. But hey, the Aztex have their own beer soo their good with me."
Exactly Alejo. That's what were all about that's why our motto (in latin) is "beers open doors." Get a brew, get a buddy, follow the round ball.
Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but after the regular beer market has been conquered, train your sights on beer-flavored ice cream: Amy's Ice Creams dishes out (512) Brewing Pecan Porter with help of local homebrewer
Hell with beer flavored ice cream. Let's just to straight to our own ice cream flavor. Time for another poll!
As long as its as faaaraway, in every way, from that nasty ass red "Christmass" ale I had a few holidays ago. Just a big mouth full of bitter and pine.
I'm more of a beer drinker than a beer maker, myself, so I'm not really even sure what a Red Ale is, except the name fits. But I agree, it shouldn't taste nasty.
And it shouldn't taste like Roland Baros. This is soccer, not tennis...you can keep the strawberries and cream, Annie.
Okay let's brew! I am prepared to offer up ingredients, my brewing rig and my driveway for the first 10-gallon prototype batch of Aztex Amber Ale next month. I have a recipe in mind (that does not include the use of strawberries.) If anyone wants to participate brew day will be either 11/15 or 11/22. If you're interested in stopping by and checking out the brewing process please do -- I live off South Lamar in Austin near Manchaca. Either post here this week or we'll take an informal poll at the Chanticos Army meeting this weekend and I'll get you directions. Whichever day we pick it takes about 5 hours from start to finish so you can bring a beer mug and make a day of it (but don't be mad when I boot your ass out at 7pm -- I have a child now you damn hooligans) or you're welcome to just stop by for a little while. Bring some sausages or any other meat product and we'll throw it on the grill. We can also turn on whatever football (proper or American) that happens to be on regular TV. I can't make any promises about "special appearances" but I promise to invite all the Aztex players that I know drink beer for whom I have an email address to stop by as well. Well, not players plural just player singular -- Alex Tapp. Anyway after the beer is fermenting away we'll need to decide when/where is a good time/place to sample the first batch. Should be ready for drinking by the middle of December....
