I didn't know there was a Cal thread. Oh hey... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUH7xYH4_O0"]YouTube - Westbrook dunks over Jamal Boykin[/ame]
Falvoyour cousin is little anthony? Well not soo little anymore, but i used to play with him back in the days with revolution on dave's team.
Yes little Anthony Jr. His dad played for the WSA Quakes after tha NASL folded and also for the Milwaukee Wave in the AISA indoor league. They own Tony and Alba's Pizza in San Jose & Mountain View ....My mom and Alba are twins... Where exactly did you play with him?
Yea i have been to there pizza place many times. I also know his family pretty good too. I talk to anthony every now and than as well.
I'd like to see him get into the MLS or even in Europe but I'm he needs to get his Euro passport which he can do through his grandparents. I'll bet Cal and coach Kevin Grimes goes far with Anthony's goals this year...
No. 6 UCLA came from behind to beat Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, while No. 8 California cruised past San Francisco, 3-0, on Thursday night. For all Thursday action and the weekend schedule ... Cal is a really good team. I like that they're playing Cosgriff at forward and he's probably thrilled to have gotten out of the sinking ship at Santa Clara and I bet it felt good to score on them today. The Bears have a potent offense and are really deep - Falvo's cousin is 4th on the team in scoring and comes off the bench - and I think this might be the year they break through to the Final Four.
He is a projected starter but I think coach Kevin Grimes wants him to play a little here and there and work him in......he is a tough kid and although he is small, he can dish it out too....I wish the Quakes would make him an offer but I guess they don't want to ruin him just yet and want him to add muscle...
Not sure about the final four but if they keep it up, these guys could go all the way. Anthony is just a freshman so he still has a lot to learn. He may not get too much playing time because he still has to prove himself....I really like this Jeff Cosgriff kid who transferred from SCU....as well as Andrew Wiedeman who scored on the hour mark with a cross from Hector Jimenez. They play at Stanford this Friday and it will be a good match. http://www.dailycal.org/article/106689/bears_cosgriff_causes_grief_for_broncos_in_3-1_tra Another Cal Alumni GK Toronto FC rookie Stefan Frei seems to be making a splash in the MLS. fixed your post will you be attending or can you get game reports? it does not appear that there will be gametracker or audio/video for this one great clash for the top of the far west region heap
It seems Jr CAL defender A.J. Soares made the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week as he scored two goals and assisted on the other in 3-0 win at San Francisco. I hear ya! Whenever I see the kids of players I watched when I was growing up it makes me feel like such a geezer. My memories of the Nanchoffs are kinda vague but I do remember that there were these brothers who played in the NASL and MISL and it always made me wish my family could be like them. There are a lot of second-generation players in college soccer right now whose dad's played pro. Nanchoff's teammate, Teal Bunbury, is the son of former Canadian international and MLS (briefly) player Alex Bunbury. Another Zip, Darlington Nagbe, is the son of former Liberian international Joe Nagbe, who played professionally in Europe and Africa for a long time. Jimmy Banks, the former US international from the 1990 World Cup team, has a son, J.C. who is leading Wisconsin-Green Bay in scoring. Maryland has a reserve, Tyler Mishalow, whose dad Gene played in the NASL and MISL. UIC's Ian Sarachan is the son of Dave, the former Fire coach and current LA assistant who played in the NASL and MISL. I could go on but this thread is about Cal soccer not for geezers to talk about other old farts with kids who play!
Falvo, I love your enthusiasm but on your first post you stated your relative is a starter. Not...He has played in all six games but has always entered as a sub. Then you say he is a "projected starter" Well, ok. I hope all subs think of themselves as a "projected starter." Please try and not overstate. Thanks On another note...I have been an avid follower of Cal for a long time and this team is for real. Barring injuries, this team has the potential of being the best in recent history.
This Cal team is the real deal. HJ whose leg was broken towards the end of the season last year, is back with enthusiasm and his usual creative flair. I would liken him to Wayne Gretzky, the assist king! Then you have the stalwart defenders whom KG has transformed into one of the best in the conference, if not region, you have the formula for a possible NCAA finals contender. These defenders even score for KG. Also incoming is the impact player/transfer from Sta Clara. Always dangerous, he is adding more depth to the already strong offense prowess of AW. Highly skilled, fast, and organized, KG has developed a team that will be formidable this season. Watch out east coast. Additionally, I applaud KG for his support for and recruiting local talent. Unlike other schools, his program is flourishing quite nicely without the heavy reliance on foreign imports. Go Bears!
serious soccerbro? a couple of posts back falvo said "...Anthony is just a freshman so he still has a lot to learn. He may not get too much playing time because he still has to prove himself...." all i see is a guy propping the bears and getting a buzz going about the team his relative plays for. maybe more of cal nation should be doing what you and he are doing. is that really 500 in Berkley for the Santa Clara game the other day? anyway, looking forward to your observations of the game in Palo Alto Friday
