OK, I can't find the old thread, so let's open a new one...

Does anybody want to start this and show off by telling us what s/he owns. be quick before Basse comes around and humiliates you!!

Stories and comments about J.League uniforms are also welcome.

I am still looking for those mighty JAL/S-Pulse from the 90es with the entire Asia-map on it, but I found both an early bleached Verdy (original, but no CocaCola sponsor), and a horrible early Marinos, the Mizuno model with the "blotted" diagonal red and white stripes around the neck.

Yes, I like to collect old ugly ones, they drag me back to the roaring 90es...

I have a couple of modern Shimizu ones, but I am forever kicking myself for not buying a mid-nineties garish yellow, world mapped classic S-Pulse shirt I saw in Pick Up (a clothes recycle shop, this one in Kakegawa) which I saw a few years ago. It was just before my passion for all things Orange took hold, and was probably about a thousand yen. I've since seen them going on Yahoo Auction for tens of thousands...

Yeah, in second hand stores I found a Sanga 2001 for 700 yen (with JS Park's #7!!), and a Japan's new Nakamura for 1,000.

I have heard that in Tokyo there are some great shops for used J.league unis, but never really inquired about it...

I just started working in Kichijoji and there's a great store that specializes in used unis, J and other: http://www.vintagesports-football.com/

I've been going there every couple of days to see if they've maybe gotten a Tokyo uni from the AMPM era. Check their photo gallery, they've seen just about everything come through at one point.

Dok, is that near Kichijoji park...?

I remember seeing an ad of this shop probably on World Soccer Digest, but (moronically) I did not jot down the address...

How are the prices...? Can you throw some examples?

Also one more question... because I FORGOT.

    In this page
    http://www.vintagesports-football.com/jleague.html

You can see that the first earlier uniform actually has "SANFRECCE" printed on it instead of the sponsor.

I have always thought that the unis with the team's NAME (not the sponsor) were those semi-original cheaper stuff for fans (nowadays they go for some 4,000 new, some are well made, others are horrible).

Does anybody know if any team has EVER actually played with their NAME on the uniform, as it would be the case for this vintage Sanfrecce Hiroshima...?

I've just started getting properly into the J. League shirt collecting, recently... apart from the recent Urawa shirts I had, before I started collecting, I also have the original Yokohama Marinos J. League shirt, and the Kashima one.

Also have another Kashima shirt and a Nagoya shirt, both from somewhere in the mid-late '90s (according to RSN, the Nagoya shirt was from '97, and the Kashima one was around the same time).

And I have last year's Gamba ACL shirt with Yasuda on the back, from a shirt trade for an Adelaide United shirt, at the Club World Cup in Toyota. My shirt didn't have anything on the back, and was just a normal league shirt, so with that on top of the low currency exchange rate at the time, I got a great deal.

As for Japan NT shirts, I just have the 2006 shirt, with Nakamura 10 on the back. Want to get one with Ono, but they're nowhere to be found (even SS Kamo don't have anything Ono-related, these days).

I'm expecting a '98 Japan shirt with Nakata on the back, and a '98 Yomiuri Verdy home shirt, to arrive in the mail, within the next week or two.

I think that will be it, for a while... unless I find some old Urawa/Ono shirts! Two that I desperately want are the '93 Urawa home and away shirts.

Well, it looks as if at probably my 12th tentative or so, exactly today (ah! the irony!) I won my JAL/Asia Map Shimizu uniform on Yahoo... It looks as horrible as it used to be, and I can't wait to get it! It is used, with slightly faded number on the back, so it went for a very reasonable 4800yen. I NEVER saw one going for less than 10,000, but then again it is a matter of luck, I suppose... (or maybe I have missed some small print...!)

In general S-Pulse, Jubilo and Reds stuff tend to be expensive, more fans and more collectors I imagine. I am wondering if in the off-seasons these stuff get a bit cheaper...?

Ok, btw if you guys intend to bid on Yahoo, just drop a line here, so that we don't bid against each other! :)

Today a wonderful Frontale 2005 with the whole team's signatures on the back went for only 5350...! I have set my limit to 5000 to preserve the family reserve, but my heart is still crying a bit for that...

My ultimate goal is to get at least one home jersey for every J.club, never spending more than 5,000/each--working through that slowly but steady, I am around 12 or so...

You may be right - I was looking a while back and maybe that was just the asking price. It struck me as crazily high stakes for a used footy shirt - rare or not.

I just had search now actually - the most I could find a vintage shirt going for was (currently) 2500 yen. There were a couple of tickets for the Nabisco Cup final for sale I happened to see - last year's final, mind you!

A Sagan Tosu one would also be a cracker! :D

I think the situation there is complicated somewhat by the fact that the official team logo was that SANFRECCE design originally. The new logo only came out recently, for the 2006 season according to those shirts. They still keep that old SANFRECCE one for branding though, and I have a cheaper shirt from last season that has that on the front (see the link below).

Would I be right in guessing that collecting the proper replica shirts is a much more expensive proposition now that they have the cheaper shirts at a more reasonable price point? I know I was certainly made to pay for having the audacity to order a shirt online at the Sanfrecce store that actually fits (XO with Makino printing). The biggest size they have at the shop on matchdays and at the store in Hiroshima is L. I wear an XL in the UK for football shirts, and knew I would be in for an interesting time when I caught sight of the official size conversion on an Adidas shirt - JP 4XO I think it said :/

Is it difficult getting reasonably sized shirts for anyone else? It's not like I'm even a particularly big guy ...

What Iw as asking about the Sanfrecce uniform is: was the one portrayed in this picture (with SANFRECCE on the chest as a logo) used by players as well, or is this a "supporter" shirt? It is definitely a Mizuno, but usually those with the team's name on the chest are supporters' uniforms... was this an exception...?

(mouse on thumb and some patience to see it bigger...)

The simple answer is "yes". The complicated answer is "not really"
The situation was caused by Hiroshima's loss of a sponsor at the start of the 1995. In 1993 and 1994, they wore exactly the same shirt you showed, but instead of "Sanfrecce" there was a Ford logo.

Just before the 1995 season Ford pulled out (and if memory serves me correctly, they sold most of their shares in Mazda at the same time). Sanfrecce put the team name on the shirt at first. In fact Ive got a picture of Ivan Hasek in one of those shirts that Ill show you on Monday. However some time in the middle of the season Mazda picked up the sponsorship and they put a Mazda logo on the front. So while the team did sell "official" shirts that say Sanfrecce on the front for about 4 or 5 months, the really OFFICIAL official shirts in that design (for the historical record) say either Ford or Mazda on the front.

There are several other teams that have had the team name on the front of the "official" uniform, rather than a company logo. Kashima Antlers shirts had "Antlers" on the front for the first three seasons, and Nagoya Grampus had "Nagoya Grampus Eight" on the front all the way up until 2000, when they finally switched to "Toyota". Vissel had "Vissel Kobe" on the front for about a year and a half, after Ito Ham dropped their support.

Ah, Sasuga... I hoped you would answer ;)

There is also a "reverse" complication: some teams have "fan" jerseys with the team name on it (Sanga, for example), while others (JEF and Gamba often) use their sponsor on both -- usually.

I guess the only way to tell if a uniform is original (=same design as those used by players) or not by a picture is to look for the brand logo. If they have the Nike, Adidas, Mizuno etc. small logo, they are very probably the real deal-such as the Sanfrecce's above.

...of course there are the Made in Thai copies as well, but perhaps in another post!

    Anyway, thanks! :)

I got these ones, both NT shirts (which date back to 2001 and 2002 respectively) also feature the number 10 and my name on the back...and I'll prolly pick up the latest Urawa top sooner or later because it looks awesome.

I swear Japan's blue has became bit lighter then before. I liked the darker blue from the early 2000.

My favourite NT shirt is the '98 (I think) goalkeeper shirt... black, with flames on the arms.

I remember seeing it, for the first time, in the 11+ museum. It was love at first sight.

I've never seen one for sale (not that any goalkeeper outfits are common), but I would love to own one.

Retri, Reds uniforms re already on sale, you can find them new at around 6000. They always make too many Reds and Marinos... be careful, because the super-cheap you see online at Yahoo auctions are Thai copies, ne...

2008 Reds and Marinos were on sale at Mitsuhashi for 3000 before, and then as low as 1900 -- NEW!! I bought an FC Tokyo for 4500.

Waiting for the next sale, but I am really developing a fetish for 94-95 uniforms, even if torn and ripped... I believe it is the nostalgia, but I want to get the whole collection (paying less than 2000 each, ne...)

Why are Frontale uniforms so damn expensive, even when used??
