Hey guys..a quick question: Is Atiba Harris still with Chivas? (initially I wanted to post this in the LAG v Chivas game thread, but I don't think this has much to do with the game eh..even though it does have the history ;))

Just curious. Seeing this clip reminds me why I felt sad watching Becks plying his trade in MLS (well..in the last year only..sorry guys!) and why I quickly hated Chivas (and the refs) even though I barely knew them at the time. (hell..this is a STRAIGHT red and the ref did NOTHING!)

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_9UQXvrCHw"]YouTube - Atiba Harris Cheap Foul on David Beckham - Galaxy vs Chivas[/ame]

Of course now I only feel excited about the Gs and the league overall! There's much improvement all over! (I even excited hearing NYRB had won twice in a row! LOL) I just hope this kind of refereeing never existed in this league anymore. Peace!

Why did I hear that Jesse Marsh retired this year but I still saw him in the LA-Chivas game? If I know he did not retire I will wish someone breaks his leg from now on.

i've mostly stuck to my promise not to talk about beckham outside of his contributions on the field, but i thought this was hilarious this was on the galaxy twitter a few minutes ago:

    click on the link.

it was subsequently replaced by this tweet
it's probably just a coincidence looking at the reposted trim url, or maybe the galaxy twitter account holder isn't very happy with beckham. funneh either way

David Beckham believes England can win the World Cup next year and says it will all be down to boss Fabio Capello.

England have won all seven of their World Cup qualifying games and currently top Group Six.

They will secure their place in South Africa in 2010 with a win over Croatia at Wembley next Wednesday.

Beckham insists Capello has brought stability to the squad since taking over from Steve McClaren in December 2007.

The former England captain also claims the Italian has brought a togetherness among the players which has given them reason to feel confident of winning the World Cup next year.

The LA Galaxy midfielder said: 'He's changed the mentality of the players. The way the players prepare themselves, the way we spend the week together, is very serious, very concentrated.

'It's working because we're not just winning games, we're together as a team. Even when we've come in at half-time and we're not winning, there's that spirit you can feel. That's what the manager has done. He's given players confidence.

'When you're playing for your country and you're only coming together once a month or once every couple of months it's always tough. But he's brought something to the players where when we come together it's like you've seen them the day before.

'I believe that we've got a chance if we play like we've been playing and have the togetherness that we've shown all the way through the qualifiers.

'You need a certain amount of luck along the way, of course, but we have got the players and we have got the team. Everything is set up right. It's only down to the players to perform.'

Well, the people who bought air time are probably products of the California public school system. So they couldn't find themselves on a map.

She's pretty wealthy herself thanks to the spice thing.

The times in London listed them both together as the 426th richest people in Britain 2009 with a net worth of £125m (UK Pounds), at todays exchange rate (1.635) thats about $204.3 (US dollars).

It looks like the AC Milan deal isn't finalized...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8242551.stm

England midfielder David Beckham has suggested that he could make a return to the Premier League.
He is midway through a five-year deal with LA Galaxy but wants a new club when Major League Soccer season is closed between November and March.

"Everyone knows I will be planning to come back to Europe," said the 34-year-old former Manchester United star.

Asked whether that would be in England he told BBC Radio: "I don't know, there are a few options, put it that way."

Last season Beckham spent a successful five-month loan spell at AC Milan, and the Italian club are keen to recruit him again.

He is anxious to maintain a high level of fitness to claim a place in Fabio Capello's England squad ahead of the World Cup finals in 2010.

It seems he is ALREADY SET and CONFIRM to own a franchise there (in MLS). It is just a matter of 'where' now:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/08/sports/soccer/08goal.html

[ .....“I have the right to own an M.L.S. franchise, which I will action immediately after I have stopped playing,” Beckham told the BBC...

.....According to a person with knowledge of Beckham’s planning who spoke on condition of anonymity because of concern about jeopardizing a potential deal, Beckham, 34, and his management team at 19 Entertainment (led by Simon Fuller) and Creative Artists Agency (led by Jeff Frasco) are interested in being partners with Joey Saputo, the owner of the Montreal Impact. The Impact plays in the United Soccer Leagues First Division.

Other than confirming that he has been approached by a group of potential partners, Saputo declined to speak in anything other than general terms about his long-running efforts to obtain an M.L.S. team in Montreal.

“I can say yes, we were approached about two months ago, but I can’t say by whom,” Saputo said in a telephone interview late last week. “I think Montreal would be a great candidate to be the 19th team in M.L.S. no matter who’s involved.”....

.....“While we have recently had preliminary discussions with the Saputo family about future M.L.S. expansion into Montreal, we have not had any discussions with David Beckham or his representatives regarding ownership of an expansion team in Montreal,” Dan Courtemanche, the league’s senior vice president for marketing and communications, said in an e-mail message. “Commissioner Don Garber and President Mark Abbott expect to travel to Montreal prior to the end of the year to discuss expansion with Joey Saputo. However, M.L.S. has not yet set a timetable for expansion beyond Portland and Vancouver’s entry into the league in 2011.”.....

......For its part, M.L.S. and Garber have publicly stated that they would like a second team in the New York area. Garber once spoke about a club run by the family of Fred Wilpon, the principal owner of the Mets. But the Wilpons lost millions in the Ponzi scheme run by Bernard L. Madoff and are now believed to be out of the picture. The league probably now imagines a 20th team in New York associated with Beckham, but he may have other ideas. ]

There were some quotes from Milan earlier in the year that strongly suggested they would love to have Becks back but that it might not happen for financial reasons. Not sure why that would be - either Berlusconi spent all their money or they just don't think he is worth what they would have to pay to get him on loan again. After those comments, Becks started being more open to the idea of playing in the premiership.

Beckham as an MLS owner is fascinating for so many reasons -- not the least of which being that he's basically had his way with the league. He's had to pay out of pocket for the loan deal, sure, but it hasn't seemed to phase him financially or personally.

So I have to assume he would demand a team in either New York or Los Angeles, full stop. I'd love to think otherwise, but I just can't see Bex championing A(rch) C(ity) St. Louis or the Cleveland Steamers. And would that mean assuming ownership of an existing franchise or shoehorning a team into whatever market he decides?

Whatever it is, the good money says it will have an extremely piss off capacity for an extremely high number of people. And the experiment continues . . .

Now CCN pick up the thread

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/SPORT/football/09/08/football.beckham.la.galaxy.milan/index.html

(CNN) -- David Beckham has hinted for the first time that he may not see out his lucrative five-year contract with American MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy.

"I will finish the MLS season. After that, everybody knows that I'll be coming back to play somewhere," said Beckham, who is hoping to win his 114th international cap at Wembley, having been an unused substitute in Saturday's 2-1 friendly win against Slovenia.

"LA Galaxy know that. If it upsets a few people, I can't do anything about it. I keep saying how much I enjoy playing over there and how committed I am to the Galaxy -- I think I will be back there after the World Cup.

"But there is a possibility that the contract might break in the autumn, and I do have options. Milan have made me aware that they want me to go back there and I'm more than happy with that.

"But I have also had another three or four offers, so when the time is right, I will decide."

i've speculated on this before, but i think there's a good chance he'll buy the galaxy. aeg wants an outdoor stadium in new york, originally they were going to co-own red bull arena, but red bull got shirty and demanded it be a proper soccer stadium and not mixed use like dallas, chicago, colorado, etc...

i believe it was late 2006 when aeg announced they'd sold their half of the stadium to red bull, beckham was announced early early january 2007.

so come 2012 mls awards aeg the second new york franchise, aeg must divest itself of the galaxy to adhere to league rules, beckham retires and buys the galaxy. aeg retains ownership of the home depot center and breaks ground in new york proper on a new outdoor stadium.

though i suppose it could be just as easy for becks to buy the new york franchise and have aeg build the stadium.
