"That purge should begin with two men, head coach Juan Carlos Osorio and technical director Jeff Agoos, the two men responsible for the construction of this abomination of a team."

"As much as some would like Osorio to be the fall guy, the sole person to blame for this disaster, he isn't. Jeff Agoos has worked hand in hand with Osorio and is just as culpable for the construction of a team that has manage just two wins all year. Agoos has held a front post for three years, after never having held one, and his on-the-job training has produced nothing of consequence. Sources suggest that Agoos tries to hang his hat on the acquisition of Juan Pablo Angel in 2007, but it's pretty common knowledge that Bruce Arena was the instrumental figure behind that deal".

Everyone really needs to go read this article.

Ives finally gets it. It took him a dogs age to get it but he finally does. No more sandwiches and cold red bovine for him in the press box next week. He's also burning some pretty big bridges with this. What is really going on behind the scenes?

Deadbull is 2-16-4 and the general manager takes a vacation in the middle of the season. Rofl just Rofl. Seems like his new hero is Governor Sanford of SC. You have to wonder if his trip was to Buenos Aires to "scout".

It's about time! But then, Ives is the guy who swore by Reyna, when everyone else could see that he was done. I guess when things are beyond redemption is when Ives can finally see things as they are.

Ives is spot-on. I wrote Red Bull today (fanservices@newyorkredbulls.com). I have no idea if my email will see the eyes of anybody that matters, but it felt good to vent. Here's the letter:

    To whom it may concern:
I have been a MetroStars/Red Bulls fan for the past nine years. I can't afford season tickets, but I usually attend several matches a year and try to bring friends along. However, this year's team is absolutely pathetic. After the recent loss to W Connection, you can't convince me that A) this team is well coached, and B) the players haven't given up on the coach.
Simply put, the display I saw is NOT *professional* soccer, and I'm not paying to see any more of it. It's long since become apparent that several firings need to be made, starting with the coach who's signed expensive players who play poorly, who plays people out of position, who uses a formation that doesn't work in MLS. I'm not a soccer rube, and I can recognize lousy coaching when I see it. That Red Bull has failed to make any moves in this disaster of a season shows that they simply don't care about the fans, expecting money to begin rolling in once they open a new stadium. Well, guess what? There won't be much of a soccer environment if RBNY has run off all their fans.
I'm moving to Eastern Pennsylvania in two weeks, and I will be basically equidistant from Philadelphia and Harrison, NJ. Financially, I'm finally in a position where I can afford season tickets. I'd love to keep my allegiance to the team I've supported for almost a decade now, but given your utter disregard for the team's fans, I'll be supporting the Philadelphia Union instead. Next time please remember that while soccer is a business for you, it's an emotional investment for fans, and just like any relationship, when one party doesn't return the emotional investment, it's time to walk. Good luck next year, and I hope you'll learn from this experience.

    Sincerely,
    ...

Frankly, I don't know how many members here have emailed RB to voice their discontent, but one blogger's rant isn't going to turn heads in the RBFO. They need to hear from the few remaining fans that we're not supporting this team until changes are made. RB's not going to pay attention until it affects their bottom line, and since they've written off this season, we have to convince them that we won't be at Red Bull Arena next year unless changes are made NOW. Maybe then RBFO still won't do anything, but I'm perfectly willing to call their bluff and switch allegiance. I'm not a fair-weather fan, but when team management basically says "f@#k you", it becomes a lot easier to shop around for a new team to support.

    Wow.

I'm surprised simply in that Ives has bent over backwards, for so long, not to appear overly negative about RB and certainly not to place blame (however much deserved). Now, he jumps into the deep end feet first.

I wonder what exactly brought him to the tipping point, all of a sudden?

All that said, he's 100% correct (we knew that) in that entire piece. Well said.

This article is spot on and we can't hate on Ives just because he was giving the Red Bull organization the benefit of the doubt. Like all of us, we were giving this season some hope on representing well in the Concacaf Champions League. But after the choke-fest against W Connection, all hell broke loose. That was the last straw for the few remaining fans that were holding onto some hope that the Red Bulls would play for pride and make their fan base feel like they care. But that obviously has not happened. After that game, which I went with my dad, that we won't bother wasting our money on supporting such a badly run team. And the way things are going, Agoos and Osorio still employed, you can count on next season being another sub-par season with the only thing worth getting excited for is RBA.

I wonder if Ives gave Osorio his two weeks notice before quitting his job as his public relations man?

The whole year, the guy goes out of his way to use phrases like "guided the Red Bulls to last year's MLS Cup", "led the Red Bulls to MLS Cup, etc, whenever he had the opportunity in his blog and now all of a sudden in the middle of the week, he decides to write this crap article?

Being an objective "writer" is one thing, but he has lost credibility this year after being the guy Metro/Red Bull fans would turn to for so long for interesting team updates and opinions.

Apparently, instead of wearing a paper bag at the last game, Ives had it over his head the past 2 years.

Man this was a so gratified surprise, reed Ives asking for the outer of Osorio and the Gus, maybe a little to late, but welcome back Ives....

I say little late, because we need a new coach for this couple of months reminding of the season, to evaluate the players we have and made the decision of who stay and who have to go and keeping Osorio until the end all that will be a lost of time and opportunity...

I too also had hope that we would at least get to the CL group stage. I keep thinking it can't get any worse but it manages to do so. At the beginning of the season I didn't think that we would make the playoffs this season but I did not expect this

Traitor?!? This is a f#%$^ng game we're talking about. If you've gotten to the point where you're calling a soccer fan a traitor, you've got a skewed-ass perspective, or entirely too much time on your hands. Either way, pull your head out of your ass.

And as far as being a sellout goes, Red Bull bought the team and put their soft drink logo on the shirt. Red Bull sold the team out. Simply put, I've been a fan of this team ever since I moved to Jersey, and this is the first time I've felt like the FO just flat-out didn't care what the fans think. I can put up with a losing team--god knows I can put up with a losing team, as long as they're playing hard for the team and the fans. The Metrostars had bad years, but at least they were trying, and coaches got fired for mediocrity, to say nothing of incompetence. It is apparent to EVERYONE--including the FO--that this team is going nowhere with Osorio as the coach, so the only possible explanation for their inability to fire him now is that they simply don't care. And if they don't care, then neither do I. If you've got a girlfriend who doesn't care about you, do you stay in the relationship or walk away?

In two weeks I'm moving to Eastern PA, and frankly, I'd rather watch a bad expansion team that plays hard than a crappy original member of MLS who thinks they're entitled to my money because they're building a new stadium. My loyalty is to a team that treats its fans with respect.

    Rule #1

You can change your girlfriend, your job, your best friend, your wife, your barber, your cable company, your religion, your beer brand, your college major, your bank, your auto mechanic, your cell phone company, your gym, your pet's food brand, your weed dealer and even your favorite pub.

But you never change your football team.

You are absolved of your blasphemous murmurs this one time, but don't let it happen again. ;)

    Back on-topic..

Yeah, it's long since been time for Osorio and Agoos to go. My personal deadline for a turnaround was mid-June and that's long since passed. Ives got it right, it just took him 2 months longer than it needed.

On a semi-related note, I actually went to the home season opener for the new Red Bull team here in Leipzig (RB Leipzig-Markranstädt) for the hell of it. While they are playing way down in Germany's 5th division Oberliga, the team on the field looked better than most of the "performances" I've seen from RBNY in the last 3 months (starting w/ the last-second DC loss). But that's for an entirely different topic...

So you're going to a Nick Sack run team based in Philly?

    When the going gets tough...

Ives is a conceited ex-pointyball player whose rep was as over-inflated as his ego.

No, I think he's got it right. If you think this is just "a f#%$^ng game we're talking about", then I don't think you should even be here discussing the situation. This is more than "a f#%$^ng game". This is a way of life. One doesn't change his football team when the going gets tough:

Got it? Don't worry, you'll have 6 months of the offseason to change your mind.

To be honest, I've changed football teams 3 times in my life. I moved around a lot when I was a kid, so I changed to support the local teams. Miami Dophins were my team when I lived in the Bahamas, then we moved to Houston, and I became an Oilers fan. Stuck with the Oilers until they disbanned and moved. I was without a football team for a few years, then became a Jets fan.

But, I'd NEVER change my soccer team loyalties.

    Back to the topic.

What a coincidence that Ives suddenly switches sides and becomes anti-JCO the day before there is a newspaper article that JCO/Agoof will be fired at the end of the season.

No, no. I'm talking about the football that's played with the foot. As in foot ball. You're talking about throw ball. I could care less that throw ball is called football here, as it has nothing to do with a ball played with the foot (unless you consider the kickers coming out to kick the pointy ball to the other side of the field a good reason to call the game football). Lei capisce? So, I'm talking about never changing allegiances when it comes to your actual football team. Throwball teams are a different story, as that stuff really doesn't matter.

Ives is really on a roll now and catching up to what's going on with the team. Today I believe he is reporting that the Red Bulls are considering trading Mike Magee to the Galaxy.

Knowing that the news will come out and now being 100% sure that these two are gone, he goes into his "ripfest" about how these guys are horrible, after going out of his way to be Osorio's PR man for 2 years.

    Great "journalism".

Just tweaking your nose a bit. :D

I learned to play "football" in South Africa in 1970. I was the only one to call the sport "soccer", and I was only 7 years old. But even then, I knew I was American and not South African, so I never called cookies "bisquits" or trucks "lorries". And I'll always call my favorite sport soccer.

My philosophy to life is simple: respect and enjoy as many cultures as you can, but embrace the one you with which you were born.
