Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Where the hell is all that Gold Cup money going to? And the Superliga paying more than the CCL? LOL. The CCL winner does get the $500k (minimum) from the CWC but still that is bad. I wish we had a better source than some random blogger guy.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag whats Travel subsidy?
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag It's to pay for travel expenses for road games in the Champions League.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag What I'd like to know is: how much did Atlante (and the other semi-finalists, for the record) take home last time around? Or better yet: what's Glenn Davis's source?
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Correction: FIFA pays a (minimum) of USD 1 Million to the CCL winner.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag It puts the complaints about the SL payout into some better prospective. Even if the players get "only" $300K or the $1M purse for SuperLiga, that's far better than whatever their share is of $36,000 -- and much fewer games to play in as well.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Oh, if only CONCACAF could be more transparent..
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag If that's seriously the prize money, then Mexican teams need to quit wasting their time. They would make more money scheduling home friendlies.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag The CONCACAF head honchos would go ballistic. Part of the deal that allows the Mexican teams to participate in Libertadores is to send their champs to the CCL. If the FMF were totally free of CONCACAF repercussions, they would probably be sending teams from La Liga de Ascenso by now. The teams risk multi-million dollar investment players in a tournament with bad refereeing for no money.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Hmm, disappointing figures if true but not really surprising. I mean look at the nations in the AFC and their economic power/interest in the game as compared to those in the CCL. Sure the game may have more history or passion in, say, El Salvador, but I'm pretty confident in saying that Japan's FA has more cash in the coffers for example. So while it may seem ridiculous, I find it hard to really be taken aback by that. Plus, the guys who run CONCACAF are notorious for being, well, 'efficient' businessmen with their personal finances to put it politely. haha
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag someone spazzo on bigsoccer is not a credible source for prize money, neither is some houston fan/ journalist/blogger someone else read the shit from concacaf and it mentioned nothing about money, so i doubt this guy would know probably making excuses for his teams poor showing in concacaf
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Then what about Africa? CAF Champions League prize money: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caf_cha...ue#Prize_money Money awardedto club-----Money awarded to national association 1 $1,000,000----- $50,000 2 $750,000 ------- $35,000 Semi-finalists $427,500 ----- $22,500 3rd in group stage $261,250 ----- $13,750 4th in group stage $190,000 ---- $10,000 Keep in mind that $36,000 is the prize money the MLS players would get if they win the tournament. For Superliga, it's $300,000 for the players when the prize money is $1,000,000. So the club keeps $700,000. Assuming it's about the same for the CL, it would be about $150,000 prize money (players get $36k and the team keep the rest?). Can a Mod edid the thread title to reflect $150,000? (instead of $36,000)?
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag There is a reason why CONCACAF doesn't publish the prize money while Asia, Europe, Africa all publish this information. (not sure about Copa Libertadores prize money is published or not). CONCACAF want to keep it a secret because it is pretty low. I'm guessing $150,000 to $250,000 low. If it's $1 mil prize money, they would shout it at the world a long time ago. More prestige to the tournament and all that.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag yes but technically, by winning it, you're automatically given a million by fifa for playing in the CWC. making beyond one round and you get more money shouldn't be the reason a tourney is prestigious anyway, internationally recognition and success is far more important. how can these teams wear their teams shirt and be comfortable with not winning a single game in two years in this competition, like DC united, or not qualifying beyong san francisco, w connection, joe public, etc. money isn't everything. the friendly tourney held every few years, the peace cup, offers 3 million pounds (i believe) to the winner, and not many teams take that seriously either, nor do the fans.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag if money was that important pachuva would not be donating it lol
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Winning the CL is a huge prestige and money shouldn't matter. But CONCACAF should at least be on par with Africa on prize money. CONCACAF makes a lot of money from the Gold Cup. Use some of that on the Champions League.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag you aren't even certain how much the prize money is only source is the houston guy, and i'm not sure how he would know. houston has not even come close to winning it
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag What does Houston Dynamo not winning it have to do with his sources? What a ridiculous leap of logic.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag the blogger that people believe did not even reveal a source. concacaf website does not have the prize money given. believing him would be a ridiculous leap of faith
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Yes it would. But doesn't make your own leap any less stupid.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag How so? Had Houston won it, you'd think someone that MIGHT know the inner workings of the club could have an idea of the prize money.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag FC Zurich just qualified to the UEFA Champions League and will make the following amount without having played a single minute: Total: USD 21.5 Million - USD 13.2 Million Qualifying Fee. - USD 4.3 from the TV-Pool. - USD 4 Million from Ticket Sales. Amazing.
Re: $36,000 prize money for winning the Champions League (compare to $1.5 mil for AFC Champions Leag Anyone interested, I just posted a blog on this subject. In it, I suggest that the MLS should create a small prize pool just for the MLS team that goes farthest in the CCL each year, sort of like the US Open Cup has for USL teams. In every other confederation, teams that make it through the group stage get some sort of prize money, and if the top prize is that small I'm assuming the CCL doesn't have any equivalent right now. MLS clubs might take this tournament more seriously if there was a realistic shot of earning some meaningful prize money without having to win back-to-back-to-back games against Mexican clubs.
