Blasphemy! There is only one true god! Clint Mathis.

It will be a hard year for SC. He has a crappy team and his position isnt as safe as it once was...

I've said it a million times on here (as has Clint Eastwood), but Stevie's been one of the most underrated Yanks during the last decade. He's had a solid career with a 1. Bundesliga side for several years after helping them gain promotion, and rarely does he have an off night in a USMNT uniform.

Right back is one of those positions that not many of us have had to worry about during the last 6-7 years when Steve has been healthy.

Well, our 2nd team (with Zizzo) had to call off their first game of the season last week because 2 players had H1N1 so I think they might be a little bit more cautious now.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more accomplished right back in the history of the USMNT program than Cherundolo. He's going to end up with over 300 appearances for Hannover. Pretty remarkable.

As people know I'm from upstate NY, very close to the US soccer Hall of Fame, so I take an interest in it. I wonder if Cherundolo will actually make it in. He's not going to get remotely close to 100 caps with the USMNT (may not make 75).......but has had a fantastic club career. And that career wasn't in the United States. If guys like Thomas Dooley and Earnie Stewart can't get in (also guys that played the majority of their careers abroad)........then you wonder if Steve will. I bet you that Frankie Hejduk makes it in before Cherundolo due to his years in MLS.......

All of these players have the unfortunate problem of not being on the US Women's 1999 World Cup team.......

OK, that explains a lot. I was wondering why it had been postponed (I somewhat keep up with the RLN due to my proximity to Halle).

Semi-off-topic, but considering how careful England usually is with this sort of thing and their recent persistent problems with the swine flu, I do wonder if this will be an issue for the 5 or 6 guys headed back to the island from the Mexico game.

He needs a new manager. Hecking was just sacked.

Both Frankie and Stevie should be in. It would be a travesty if either one of them were left out.

I'm curious as well. I'd imagine he must be 1 of their top earners having been with the club since it was in the 2nd Bundesliga. And I'm not well read on the team but isn't he 1 of the more popular well known players?

Why should they pay him more, because he's at the club for some years? I don't get this point, and think that players who were signed to be new stars get more than him.
Maybe he's popular among the 96 supporters, but not in Germany in general. The outside perception is more that of a wallflower type of guy. Been there for some years, but never really deeply impressed anyone outside of Hannover. His club is not very popular, and doesn't get a lot of attention. It's more or less "Robert Enke and ten boring, nameless field players". (Hannover fans, please forgive me!)
200 Bundesliga games isn't anything special, when you're in the Bundesliga.

Can we suppose you would be happy to see a new employee make more than yourself IN THE SAME JOB even after you have been working for TEN years?

No one has stated that he is a Bundesliga "star". Not being popular throughout Germany doesn't diminish his accomplshments.

Any idea how many current players have reached this number? How many have played for 10+ years at the same club? Just to have some idea.

according to this guy he plays like crap!

    "Spector Demerit Boca Hejduk

I am not a fan of Cherundolo. He always plays like crap for US team.

Hejduk played very well early in qualifying. He gets better with age. He has played left back before. "

His accomplishments are still unbelievably impressive by American standards (and I don't mean to insult/diminish what he has done by looking at it through American lenses because he has had a tremendous European career, by any standard).

Quite simply, he has been a pivotal part (read: starter) of a team in one of the world's top leagues for over a decade. What's more surprising is here, stateside, though he is a known name, he remains a bit - IMO - unappreciated by many fans who like to focus on other USA players in Europe (most of which who haven't come close to what he's done).

Yes, he's not flashy but he's solid and consistent. He's also provided the USA team with great offensive delivery for years from the RB spot.

If he has generally "unimpressed" as you suggest, I don't understand why he has been able to maintain a starting position with 96 for as many years as he has. And even if he isn't a star in Germany he still remains one of the USA's best players who has led really an unparalleled career in major European soccer.

    Yeah, I remember that.

One not-so-great game at Mexico (to go along with the rest of the team) and suddenly Cherundolo is no good. It's as if people have forgotten his entire career with the US MNT.

There's a reason he's been our starting RB for years now - and it's not due to a lack of options. Just a solid player.

After a quick look thorugh squads (which means I might have missed something) about 28 players (only players still on Bundesliga squads, there are probably some more in the lower divisions, and outside of Germany of course) - plus about 10 players who will reach this number soon (quite a few 190+ games players).

Players with ten or more years at the same club (only the first team, if we include youth this list would get longer) I can think of:
    Asamoah
    Dardai
    Dédé
    Nikolov
    Lala
    Wache

No, but it's not a standard job. It's pro soccer, and you get paid according to supply and demand. Who makes more money, Guti or Cristiano Ronaldo?
If you play ten years or more for a medium or small sized club, it's an indicator that you never received an offer from a "big fish", and the club will probably pay better salaries for players who came from Bayern Munich or the EPL. Regardless of your achievements.
