Sure hope we can do something positive with those games in hand. Win them and were right near the top of the table. Keep our same winning percentage and were toast.

I can agree there is hope we'll see better play but not that we're suddenly going to win every game. We just don't have the talent/depth in the offensive positions. 1.2 ppg may become 1.4, is that enough?

To move up to 1.4 points per game, we'd have to go 7-4-4 in our last 15 games. Possible, yes ... likely ... damn, I really don't know. I'd love to see us do that (or better) but there's been very little to show that we have that chance. 9 of the 16 remaining games are at home. If we can actually defend our home field, something we haven't done since 2007, we've got a shot.

RBNY got into the playoffs last year with 39. BTW, what's amazing about this ... they'd need to win their remaining 10 games just to get to 40 points. Ouch.

Of the 4 teams we've beaten, only one (DC) has more points than us. I like that we're playing better, and we are healthier, but we've yet to find out exactly how good we are.

Exactly. It really is sad when three of our four wins (in 14 games) are from beating teams below us.

Actually, I meant 1.4 ppg from this point on. I believe you just worked out what we'd have to do to average 1.4 ppg for the entire season (true?). I think your analysis shows we'd have to get 25 pts out of 15 games which is about 1.7 ppg from this point on. IOTW, I think we strongly agree. A healthier REV team with EJ added (and Twellman out) is not going achieve that, I believe. It is just extremely unlikely to happen, even if Twellman comes back and plays consistently (doubtful IMHO).

My point, and you are outing my "negativity," is that if we play 1.4 to 1.5 ppg the rest of the way, we'll still average out pretty low overall (1.35 ish). That would still leave us approximately 10th in a single table and out of the playoffs. Maybe some of those teams are set to make a dramatic drop; we almost have to count on it.

I still don't think this team has the depth it needs at forward/AM and is marginal on the wings. The age/health/form of EJ, Ralston, and SJ will be key. Even if EVERYONE else got healthy, we are immediately back to a "bad injury situation" if one of those three goes down.

This is one of the greatest things ever. :D

Anyone know the record for worst PPG season? If this isn't it, it has to be close.

Maniacal Clown has started up a good thread about this here.
I have edited the numbers to show through the current games, as he started the thread a couple of games ago.

In Tampa's last year in the league, they finished with 14 points in 27 games. For the MuttBulls to finish above that, they need 7 points in their remaining 10 games.

Circling back to the earlier point, having drawn twice against that sorry lot didn't seem all that bad at the time, but wow, can you really deny thinking that we should have 4 more points right now?

Actually, one of the Mutt games we were all set to lose, so maybe we need to be happy with the three-day-old bologna sandwich from a Greyhound station vending machine that we have and not insist on pheasant under glass.

I pretty much agree. One possible mitigating factor is that three of the teams in front of us in the east (Columbus, Toronto & DC) are in the CCL, and DC is staring down two more USOC matches as well. If they wear down a bit and begin to drop points, that could help.

Points against Columbus and Toronto are essential. TFC play the two match CCL play-in against Puerto Rico sandwiched around their match at Gillette. That will help.

Are you talking about RBNY? We beat them 4-0, and drew 1-1...we play them again, BTW
