With the second Melbourne team all set to enter the A-League in season six, how can they integrate themselves into the community, with so much support already directed towards the Victory? Because Melbourne isn't divided geographically like Sydney, how can the team become a factor?
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? I haven't heard about Melb2 being a go until your post. However, I have heard of this general area called "Southeast Melbourne", so shouldn't that be the primary target? Just like all the neighorhood teams in England? Or is M2 going to be in another area? Regardless...community first, then metro. How would the local media react to an M2? Could certain stations cover the Vics and others cover M2?
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? Firstly change the name!!! I'm Serious!!! Heart is lame and needs to change. Honestly getting into Juicy Tender Hotdog territory here They need to engage the supporters at a community level. Do all the hard stuff holding clinics and the like. Victory do this pretty well as do the AFL clubs. Put together a strong list GC style that will be attractive to support and back it up with results. The team needs to get it's football department right. People won't follow a loser. I think it's also important that the Victory and Melbourne II play out of different stadiums. Victory will soon be at the new Swan St Stadium (is that what they're calling it atm??) so I guess the new team should play at the Dome which I think is a fantastic stadium. A rivalry needs to be built between the two clubs and this can't happen out of the same stadium. I think there are enough supporters out there that a second Melbourne team could be very well supported. So it comes down to how they engage the community and how successful they are on the football field. Melbournes a great city for a sports club. The fact that theres no real geographically distinct areas won't matter at all. I mean the AFL supports 9 Melbourne based clubs and another down the road in Geelong and gets great support. It's very city centred compared so the fact both teams will play near each other isn't an issue at all.
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? Melbourne Heart - what the ********? And I thought Sydney 2 possibly being called 'Premier State FC' was bad.

Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? Actually, I'm pretty sure they've said they will be playing out of the new stadium. But the Victory will be splitting matches, playing the big ones at the Dome, and smaller ones at Swan St.
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? Melbourne's big enough to handle two teams- I know people who can't stand the Victory but would support a new team, However, I'm not a fan of groundsharing, although the AFL does it all the time- so I guess its in their culture down there now- so it wouldn't be that much of an issue!
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? ^^ In the AFL maybe but the Soccer teams all had their own stadiums. It's probably not a big deal but I think independant stadiums should still be the go.
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? You mean like Inter, AC Milan, Juventus, Torino, Genoa, Sampdoria, Lazio and Roma
Re: How can Melbourne 2 integrate itself? I hate to see clubs use more than one facility in a season, though I know it happens. As far as pitchsharing, I couldn't care less. I love that Chivas USA uses HDC, but has a different identity. But Melb. ha to be big enough to where a diff't district or suburb could host an M2 team.
Melbourne 2 Well it's official: Best part is that they're going to let the public choose the name. At least it won't be Melbourne Heart! Unless the citizens of Melbourne are stupider then I thought
Re: Melbourne 2 Melbourne Salty Dogs. Seriously, "Heart" sounds too "inspirational". What's Melbourne as a city known for (besides being in Victoria, hence "Victory").
Re: Melbourne 2 Sounds too much like "Sporting Lisbon". But still, that's an aspiration...miles ahead of "Melbourne Heart", in my book.
Re: Melbourne 2 nahh FC Melbourne Melbourne City Athletik Melbourne Sporting Melbourne Melbourne United Melbourne South South Melbourne and yee 1 of dem wuld be great or even Melbourne Olympic
Re: Melbourne 2 Chances of the Victorian public choosing a sensible name and not becoming the laughing stock of the A-League? I'm thinking around 5-1 right now. Chances are they're going to go with something stupid.
