Here's my prediction: this doesn't happen.

They have not told the truth about their stadium plans for NYC, nor have they told the truth about playing games before a stadium is built in NYC.

It is 2 months after the announcement and their web site is still something I suspect a 5th grader did.

They have failed to capitalize on the press conference. They have lost the little capital they built, in fact.

I would like to think that the USL is smarter than to be duped by a few folks who are either not ready for prime time (or more accurately sub prime time) or who have a trick up their sleeve.

USL: What is going on? This is your brand, your league, they are messing with?

Yeah dude, welcome to the USL.

You're not going to have some huge marketing strategy and reveal for a USL club like MLS clubs do. Nothing even close for that matter.

Who says its the ownership group is messing with USL. Maybe the USL pressured/offered incentives for the group to come forward earlier than they wanted to. Remember this new team was announced right after the news of Portland and Vancouver moving to MLS became known.

What I never understood…is why now? Why announce the team in 2009 and play in 2010? Why admit that Hofstra is not the answer and then tease the BBs, and NYC for that matter, that they’ll play at Icahn or Baker only to not advertise, not have a professional front (i.e. their website), and take a huge hit in Long Island? If you’re going to take a hit, why not take a hit in NYC and build city fans? For all we know, these things could be in the process of finalizing right now…but the lack of “relations with the public” concerns me.

Having a professional website is something easily obtainable in NYC. Any eager “intern” (i.e. free labor) at one of the universities can whip up something in about a week. Hey, if Hofstra has a million negatives, at least get free labor out of the student body.

Whatever happened to that English club announcement? All this seems too rushed and I would recommend getting a spot in the city in 2011 rather than looking foolish in 2010. I don’t doubt the ability of LI to draw, but I don’t think NYC will follow a team out in LI in a minor league system.

You are right, I don't know the USL.

I'm not expecting a "huge marketing strategy" but maybe, i dunno, a strategy? You use a kick off press conference to get the ball rolling. That means, at least, you have a web site that you can go to, be a little impressed, and the ability to get email addresses to build up a database of potential supporters. This way your press conference doesn't go to waste.

I'm a lawyer, I'm not in marketing. But this seems just basic, and inexpensive.

I'm really starting to doubt they were ever planning on making this a city team. We heard that they were going to be playing at Columbia or Icahn and then we find out that they haven't even made any sort of deal with them.I feel bad because obviously these guys care about the sport with their youth team and what not, but I just don't think they have the resources to build a stadium in the city (especially in one year!).
The worst part about this is that there is going to be two teams in the NY metropolitan area that play in empty stadiums. We really don't want Garber or anyone else worrying about if NYC could hold two MLS franchises.

I wouldn't fret too much--yet. Both the Atlanta Ruckus/Silverbacks and the Atlanta Beat announced plans to play at Life University in Marietta (NW of Atlanta), but ended up playing somewhere else (the Ruckus even had their brochure with a seating chart). The problem with Life was their stadium; there was no stadium. It was just field with a track and some bleachers. The university wanted an exorbitant amount of money so they could actually build the stadium (or so I heard; I could be wrong), so the teams played somewhere else (Ruckus/Silverbacks: Adams, Old Roswell HS, DMS/Hallford, and later, Silverbacks Park; Beat: GA Tech and Morris Brown (Herndon Stadium)).

I doubt FCNY will have that problem, but perhaps it's just speculation on their part, in hopes of "sweetening the pot," in order to perhaps get a competition going for the team's presence. Maybe they're hoping that mentioning these venues will get them a better deal with whichever place they decide to play.

    Don't know, just sayin'.

RBA is going to be the premier arena for soccer in the NYC metro area. It's foolish to think otherwise. Go run get your season tickets and have fun.

FCNY is an upstart, they are making their way in the professional soccer world. We can't expect much, so we really should give them their time to settle all their matters and come forward with the best possible product available.

In time FCNY will capture the city and will be the city's team.

Without a doubt the website is gheeettooo and crude but its a website nonetheless to a team that exists. At the very least, I give them credit for trying, whether or not they succeed is another story.

The beginning of the 2010 USL season is 10 months away, they still have time to pull this off. Either way I'm not expecting to have a super club here. For the love of god, its the USL.

This is what I feared from day one. My new name for it is the Claure mentality.

We are bringing soccer. You love it, we know it! Come on out! People will support it. Public officials and groups will clamor over what we are doing.

There is no sweetening of th epot with regards to soccer here for th emost part. Here in the city there is little care for something like this.

From day one I said I would support this team as I grew up in Queens, but from day one I had nothing but doubts about their stadium plan and where they said they will play.:(

There are so many who love the game here, but don't understand it's actual place here, and what it means here. It is a very common thing unfortunately.

I've talked to several club heads in NYC and they just laugh when this is brought up.

If only the heads of the biggest club teams could come together and work together we may have something. Alas, they don't want to. Happy how they do things now as they control their littlw worlds. Common US Soccer problem...everywhere.

Only way this works is if someone has the resources, money, will and political connections to forge ahead.

Even then nothing would be guaranteed in NYC and even a small stadium might take several years. Welcome to NYC.

It's a tough propostion for anyone. Very tough. Sigh.

Looking back on it, you have a point. Althought I have to admit that had it worked out it would have been a good thing.

Say what you want to about the logo/shield/whatever, but at least the soccer ball isn't one of those with the lopsided pents and hexes that looks like I drew it. I've seen worse crap on "big league" logos.

Actually, for me, the simpler the better. I doubt you'll ever see a logo in the USL that was designed by one of the heavy-hitters who do logos for the likes of MLS, NFL, or the NBA (although the Silverbacks logo wasn't bad, IMO).

I think many of you don't realize how little USL teams keep up their web presence.

Miami FC didn't even put up their full roster until after their second game of the season, and the Rochester Rhinos website had all of zero updates between November 1st and March 1st.
