no it's far from dead...they had a community meeting with residents a few weeks ago, story was in the Post - now we still don't know or sure if this will eventually lead to a showcase stadium for the Hounds, but the land is being cleaned up and the project is moving forward

Does anybody else think that Pitt will get a USL1 team if their stadium gets built?

Pittsburgh couldn't survive before in USL1, I think their ownership is happy just to be back in USL2.

I don't think they will. I know the FO wants to move up..they even mentioned MLS at one point before last season started but I don't think USL 1 is right for the Hounds (at this moment) due to economics and fanbase. We have money but not a whole lot and we have a fanbase but it still needs some time to grow. As it stands right now the clubs in the USL 2 are a good fit for Pitt (close by).
I do think once Univ. of Pitt gets their SSS done for their program and the Hounds could use it then this would go a long way into building a 'city' fanbase.

    Soccer in Pittsburgh?

After many years away from the game I'm trying to finally get myself back into soccer as a whole. I grew up in Pittsburgh, but moved away from close to 20 years and now I'm back for good. My history of soccer in Pittsburgh is as follows playing for Norwin soccer club when I was young, watching the indoor soccer team, Pittsburgh Spirit and attending the Roma v Chelsea game at Heinz Field a couple of summers ago. Thats it. Maybe Pittsburgh is just a "football" town, and thats all.

I'm just trying to gauge the intrest/love/passion for soccer in the Burgh.

    I have many questions:

1.) Youth level-What are some of the better club youth teams?

2.) Why doesn't the University of Pittsburgh soccer team have A field?

3.) Why aren't there any "soccer complexes" in the area?

4.) Have any notable players come out of the area?

5.) Soccer bars besides Pipers Pub?

6.) Any good soccer stores in the area?

    7.) Pick-up games in the city-Where?

Thanks to anyone that can contribute.

The hounds have a good bit of growing to do to be a viable USL 1 team. Although realistically the USL 2 is a much better fit right now geographically.

yes, but not right away...it'll take a few years after the grounds are constructed to increase the fanbase to a level that could support a USL1 side; also, the front office will need to restructure their business plan...both will take some time

Hounds win 2-1 in the home opener. After opening the first two weeks of the season on the road and getting two draws, we returned home tonight too the win from Maryland.

Justin Evans got the winner and it was AMAZING. From around 40 yards out he sees the keeper off his line and chips it. The ball JUST makes it under the cross bar. It happened so fast and from such length a lot of people didn't realize he'd scored right away. Then Justin went nuts, ran into the stands and celebrated with the crowd. It was freaking AWESOME.

Sweet! Too bad the Hounds won't get to beat up on Cleveland this year. Any chance of a friendly?

Mate, are you off on your holidays??? Did you see Cleveland dismantle Pitt THREE TIMES last season? I doubt Pitt will dismantle any USL-1 team. I mean, they didn't even make the playoffs last year in USL-2...

I would hardly say you dismantled us three times. The first game if not for a non-call foul that should have been we would have won...and made the playoffs.

    your keeper=white,
our forward (well your forward now)= black. It was just a matter of who can jump higher. he went straight up. also, listen i can hear "We're all following City" when the camera is RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!!!

the 2nd game, we owned 3-0. this pic sums it up:

the third game was closer, but our goalkeeping and defending were great as well as the goal.

No, I didn't because I live in New York and only saw one Hounds match last season. They one that game v the WestMassholes and went on a bit of a run that almost got them in the playoffs.

Since I only get to the burgh a couple times a year I'm hoping to see this year's edition some time this summer and sing them to victory with the Steel Army. Much appreciated, Eddie26, for the update. The Hounds are off to a great start!

Was Justin Evans on the Cleveland Force??? I think he was. Maybe the Cleveland side came out in him for that nice goal.

No, I think it was his hard nose Pennsylvania work ethic that shined through.
Here is his background. He's a Commonwealther not a buckeye (thank God):

Notice how they 'play up' his Leaveland indoor experience.
