Don't forget that "Deus e' Brasileiro!"

I was baptized catholic, but I don't follow any organized religion.

However, I always pray before and during any game from my selecao!

It's curious, Catholicism has such a distinct cultural element that, not unlike Judaism, a lot of people may not believe in God or in the teachings of the church but still feel they belong. bviously not to the same degree, but there are parallels.

Last time I went to church I still lived in DC and a dear friend's mother had passed away and I walked to church with her where she lit a candle.

I think there's a lot of value in the community that churches build, even if I don't personally believe in any of the religious elements. Technically you could get a lot of what you get from church form other groups too, but the church offers a community that's already there, strong and inclusive.

To make a different point though, if this were a debate about whether religion is true or right, the value of going to church would serve only as an argument to religion's usefulness, not to its truth. If you're willing to expand I'd be interested in hearing what you get out of church - is it part of your tradition as a family and nothing more? Do you as an individual find something particular you like in it?

I go there more because of tradition rather than anything. My mom's side of the family has strong Catholic beliefs, go to Church every Sunday, and I was raised on those principles. I go there out of respect to that.

I might go more often if the services were a bit different. They do some things that I don't really like, so that's why I only go so little. Maybe if I was going to church in Brazil, it would be different. Unfortunately, there are no Brazilian catholic churches near by. The only one close to me are Methodist and the Brazilians there are super religious with all aspects of their daily lives.

As far as faith goes, I believe in God, but I can't really say I take it any further than that. I'm not the type that would carry religion into every decision I make. I don't try forcing my beliefs upon other people who have different beliefs.

Sikhs wear turbans as a piece of religious garb don't they? It makes them stand out, especially in a place like Brazil where you say there are only 1000, so how are you seen/received by the average person?

Usually yrs. But I'm not a Khalsa (Sikhs who use turban and don't cut hair/beard).

Raridade.
