We never said we would dissolve or adandon the PDL. We will continue to have the PDL Lions and we are working to bring in the USL-1 to the organization.
Oh really? Coolcool. I guess everything I've seen so far has said 'promotion' versus 'addition', so I assume the team itself would move leagues. Wrong assumption, I guess. Nice to know.
Well according to that invfinite source of online knowledge, known as Wikipedia, you lads are indeed going to move up to USL uno en 2010. Do any of you Leons have any info that would either confirm, or deny, this latest update to the USL wikipedia page?
That bit of info has been there since mid-December, and if you look at the reference it cites, it's just the original article the Lions put on on their website that they were trying to get a team. I don't think there's anything out there currently to confirm or deny it.
No confirm and no deny. We are currently working on our investment group and exploring the idea of adding a USL-1 side to the current organization to compliment the PDL organization. The desire is to have both sides playing in the year 2010. Tony and his investment group will continue to discuss the plan to move forward and bring a USL-1 side to the area. This is nothing new and has always been in the business plan since the inception of Champion Sports Managment and the St Louis Lions in 2006. We are currently looking at implementing that plan. It is up to the investment group to deside to move forward or not.
Come out and have a good time. We bring excitment to every game and we have a partnership with Miller to provide beer. So come on out grab a beer and a seat and enjoy the action.
From the other thread: In Vancouver, the USL-1 franchise is moving to MLS. Would the Lions seek to be similarly involved in any St Louis MLS venture? Has there been any communication with Cooper's group? (and where the hell is that jersey you were working on?)
We have had discussions with Mr Cooper but nothing has ever developed. He is concentrating solely on the pursuit of an MLS team at this time. We have an open dialogue with Mr Cooper concerning each organizations endevours and we keep in touch. Both organizations believe it is a natural realtionship and it would be great for the St Louis area. As far as the jersey I am waiting on my jersey as well. Puma has not delivered anything yet. But I will let you know when we get them.
That letter makes so much sense and if you stop and think about it. If a team got into MLS they would spend 40 million just to get a team compared to 1.5 million to get into the USL1 I think. Thats 38 million you could spend on other things most importantly players. Imagine what kinda team you could put on the pitch with that amount of money.
But your forgetting a piece of SUM money (Mexican NT tour money, other euro-friendlies) along with any money from Univision or ESPN. It adds up. Plus regardless of how well the Impact or PR do, MLS is still seen as the top league. USL1 is Triple A.
Great letter but Prime also makes some good points. Either way, it would be a shame for St. Louis to be without a pro soccer team for much longer. But I think you guys will have something before too long.
I hoping something is announced soon concerning a USL1 team in St. Louis. The loyal fans of the city deserve it. MLS is crap anyway so USL1 would do yall just fine.
More and more I find it harder to argue with this one. That is when I watch FC Dallas spiral further into oblivion. But the stadium's nice and they have Pizza Hut!
If St. Louis get's a USL 1 team, here's hoping that another couple of teams also come in the Midwest. This will help with some what in reduction in part of the travel costs. To me ideal areas to for new teams would be; Des Moines, Omeha and Milwaukee. When combined with Minnesota, you have 4 games you can drive to. Now all I need to do is win some really big lottery jackpot and I can fullfill my dream of becoming the AEG of the USL.
